The titles of both songs are different, as is their composition. The 2003 version of the song has the title Where is the love, whereas the 2016 version is titled #WheresTheLove. The use of the hashtag in the title symbolizes the digital mindset that people in 2016 currently live in. The internet had not yet taken off in 2003 and there wasn’t an obsession with social media at this point. In 2016 everything is focused around the concept of instant information. When something significant happens in the U.S., the majority of people have that information in hand instantly through their handheld technologies. The increased use of technology has sparked a surge of social movement. This can be seen through multiple campaigns, one example would be the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement first began following the death of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of the officer who shot him. This movement began with a simple hashtag. Now in 2003 the hashtag was better known as a pound sign whereas in 2016 it is a classic trademark of social media platforms. The hashtag allows one’s beliefs to be categorized into a short statement. Supporters of the statement will then begin using the hashtag, thus causing a snowball effect. As the hashtag #blacklivesmatter began to swarm platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, awareness grew of the movement. “Social media has allowed its members to share documentary evidence of police abuse, spread activist messages, and
A necessary and common fight for equality has been one that has survived throughout all of man’s existence. Due to recent racial divide and the product of racial profiling, a movement has risen up to combat these common issues. The most recent and most well-covered is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Even though it has been lauded by some media sources and individuals as the next great movement to champion for civil rights, the Black Lives Matter movement is not the same as the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s nor is it likely to be as successful. If the Black Lives Matter Movement continues with discrepancies in ideology, lack of clear leadership, and trends of hate, the movement is doomed to fail.
In the United States, there has been many cases of Racial injustice. From the beginning of the start of the United States of America it was the injustice to the Native Americans being captured and used for slave labor while their bison be slaughtered for sportsmanship. But this paper is on the specific race of the African Americans. There are many races that have been racially profiled and ostracized by the English people. But the treatment that African Americans have endured even till this day is disheartening. African Americans have gone through enslavement during the early 1600’s to the mid 1800’s. Then the African Americans were obstructed by the Jim Crow laws creating the ‘Separate but Equal” propaganda during the late 1800’s into the 1960’s. After the abolishment of the Jim Crow Laws, people were considered equal until the recent actions of many police officers using deadly force on African American youths in the early 2000’s.
According to my text book, civil disobedience is the voluntarily breaking established laws based on one’s moral belief. I strongly believe that civil disobedience is never justified, regardless of the situation. Yes, something might be wrong according to your morals, but laws are in place to prevent chaos. All these events mentioned; war protesters, anti-abortion activist, Civil Rights Movement, Black Lives Matter Movement, Charlottesville, Confederate statues, so on and so forth has created chaos throughout the United States.
BLM or commonly known as Black Lives Matter had been established in 2012, which meant to stand against the allegedly racial inspired killings by police officers and other unlawful acts against minorities in this country. The murder of Trayvon Martin, a 17 year old African American teenager, started the influence behind the making of this group. BLM has gained a big following from all ethnic backgrounds in this country. BLM has become a positive movement among civil rights activists. Anyhow, although this group has put together to fight directly for the rights of African Americans, they also hindered the process of evolving positive outcomes by resorting to violence. The Black Lives Matter group has gained national headlines

In the early 1900’s Black unrest was starting to become permanent. African Americans across the US were realizing the situation they were in wasn’t right. They felt as though they needed to be treated equal and as actually people functioning in society. Leaders started to emerge such as W.E.B DuBois and Booker T. Washington. W.E.B DuBois was a scholar and political thinker who helped in finding the NAACP. He felt as though more Blacks needed to be educated in order to make a change. Booker T. Washington was an educator and reformer who did the opposite of DuBois. He believed that Blacks should accept discrimination as it was and try and focus on bettering themselves. He believed that Blacks getting better education in areas such as industrial/farming
Over 100 years ago, the term slaves arose when blacks were separated from their families and freedom, then consequently forced into hard working labor for the white individuals’ benefit, confiscating all their rights. Approximately 50 years ago, the Civil Rights movement was conducted in order to restore the equal rights under the American law. Currently, those of color are still constantly fighting to regain rights and justice that were seized from them years ago. Roughly around 5 years ago, the Black Lives Matter movement became an active nationwide organization involved to protect the lives of African Americans, all occurring due to the unjustifical death of Trayvon Martin. Unlike other civil rights movements, the Black Lives Matter movement is intended to raise awareness of the police brutality, inequality, and racism which has
The Black Lives Matter movement is a movement that wants to liberate the inequality that the black community faces, yet to Tomi Lahren, the Black Lives Matter movement is equal to the sadistic and twisted views of the KK. Black Lives Matter is not a hate group. Many misinterpret the purpose of Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter is a voice for the oppressed, the movement is an important artifact in the history of civil rights movement, and unites not only black lives but all lives.

Since the last slaves were freed in 1863 and the segregation of public places was put to an end, one would think that the world would have become a much more accepting place. The simple fact is, however, that this is just not true. Racism still runs rife in many places around the world. White people are born into extreme privilege that they are unaware of having and Blacks are continually the subject of police brutality, inequality in the workplace and the media is still horribly racist. It is clear that light needs to be shed upon this issue to help prevent future generations from fighting the horrific battle that black people still have to fight every day even now in 2015. The Black Lives Matter movement was set up in 2012 following the death of Treyvon Martin and awareness to this issue is being widespread through social media with the use of the hashtag: #BlackLivesMatter.
Picture yourself being in an African American shoes, you’re walking out of a store and a white off duty police officer accuses you of stealing from the store. As you defend yourself by telling the officer that you did no such thing, this accusation starts becoming violent. As the officer calls for back up, he has you on the ground, you then start realizing that this officer accused you of something you didn’t do, automatically assuming that you did such thing because of your color. (Making you question yourself on why)Why is it that we have people in this world to automatically assume that they have higher priorities than any other race out there in this world just because of their ethnicity. Is it the fact that parents don’t do their job to
Currently ,The “Black Lives Matter” movement is failing, and they could learn a lot from the Civil Rights Movement that took place in the 1950s. The Civil Rights Movement proved that in order to make change through protest a group must have a brand, and a clear and respected leader. The current “Black Lives Matter” movement lacks these aspects but they can be obtained through reorganization.
The Black Lives Matter movement has swept across America. It 's branched out with chapters in over 31 cities and held rallies and boycotts across the United States(Sidner). The Black Lives Matter movement started with the outrage of the death of a young man. It continues to take over headlines and raise awareness on police brutality and inequality. However, the movement has met resistance from the All Lives Matter group. This group thinks that Black Lives Matter is a movement to express hatred towards other races. However, statistics, the views of fellow citizens, and the overall purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement, can prove that the movement wasn 't meant to express hate on other races and that we need to support the movement instead of going against it.
