Bombs exploding, sirens blaring this is what the man of Pearl harbor heard on the morning of the attack. Pearl Harbor and how it is one of the most deadliest and important attacks on the United states.Pearl Harbor had many causes and left many behind destruction, but in the destruction there was a few things that survived. December 7, 1941 “A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY” this iconic quote was said by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the attack.

The ship exploded and sank with more than 1,000 men trapped inside” (Pearl Harbor). The japanese also destroyed airfields on the island so there planes would not have to worry about being attacked while doing their jobs. Japan also used a special type of ammunition in their planes that would cause more damage to the armored ships and planes that where on the air stip. The attack all together crippled or destroyed 20 American ships and over 300 airplanes.The cost to the Japanese was 29 aircraft, five midget submarines, and 130 service personnel, all but one of whom was killed in action. One of the opportunities the United States missed was not reporting the sighted periscope they saw at 3:50 after they searched for two hours and could not find it. Another was when the radar detected the Japanese planes coming toward the island but when the privates in the tower called to report the incident the information officer told them to not worry about it since he knew that the B-17’s were do to arrive which was information the privates did not know about.
Although the attack on Pearl Harbor did massive damage to the Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor the attack could of been much worse if the Japanese did not make mistakes. One mistake was flying a long single-file attack formation for the torpedo bombers, with 500-meter (7-second) intervals between aircraft.
