“Wherever You Are, Death Will Find You, Even In the Looming Tower”- The Holy Quran As the second plane, United Airlines Flight 175, crashed through the Southern World Trade Center, all of the United States watched their local news stations and wondered how something like this was not prevented from happening on U.S. soil. The attacks of September 11th, 2001 were the deadliest attacks ever on the United States’ soil, fueled by Al Qaeda and masterminded by none-other than the infamous Osama Bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (9-11commission.gov). The plot was constructed for well over a decade, and could have been detected had the leaders of the United States realized how much of a threat Al Qaeda truly was, such as through the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya, the bombing of the USS Cole, and the numerous reports of suspicious student pilots training on U.S. soil. Four airliner jets were hijacked, the first two crashing into the two World Trade Centers in New York, the third crashing into the Pentagon, and the fourth crashing into a field in Pennsylvania due to the heroics of the passengers. Over three thousand innocent people died, leaving thousands of parentless children, lonely families, and broken hearts. Had the leaders of the United States took note of the warnings Al Qaeda gave prior to the attacks, the unfortunate day known around the world as 9/11 would not have happened. Although the United States was faced with many terrorist attacks in the 1990’s and even the

The September 11th terrorist hijackings and attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon caught the United States largely by surprise. Once the dust had settled, and the shock and horror of such an unprecedented event had waned, the American public began to ask questions. Names such as Osama bin Laden, countries such as Afghanistan, and organizations such as Al-Qaeda were brought into the public's consciousness for the first time. Through newspapers, talkback radio and television programs the nation asked why do they hate us so much?' Others, such as those in the government and public service, asked what could we have done to have prevented this?' It is

September 11, 2001 will forever be known as an infamous and tragic day Americans will unquestionably remember. On this day, three planes filled with innocent civilians, were hijacked and crashed into significant sites. The three places the hijacked planes collided with were the Twin Towers in New York City, and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. In addition, the terrorists orchestrating the whole attack scheduled a fourth plane to collide into another aimed target. Fortunately, though unlike the other hijacked planes, the mission was unsuccessful. The passengers on the plane fought against the terrorists and eventually surpassed their power, landing the plane in Pennsylvania. Though this may have been a slight victory and prevented worse outcomes, it did not outweigh the devastating results of the collisions. Inside the Twin Towers and the Pentagon,
The attack on USS Cole was a suicide bombing conducted by Al Qaeda member, Ibrahim al-Thawr and Absullah al-Misawa under the supposed supervision of Bin Laden which resulted in the death of at least 6 American sailors and left 40 other individuals injured (BBC, 2000). In response Clinton stated before that any assaults could be launched against Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan that the CIA or FBI had been sure enough that they ‘would be willing to stand up in public and say, we believe that Bin Laden…’ was behind the attacks (The 9/11 Commission Report, pp 191). However Clinton was never met with this definitive answer he was after and no covert action was taken against Al Qaeda in response to USS Cole. The bombing galvanised Al Qaeda’s recruitment
