December 7, 1941 was one of America’s darkest days. This was the day of the famous pearl harbor bombing. This attack came from the Japanese attacking the American Naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack had been in the planning for many years to attack and weaken the United States Naval force. Japan wanted to do this to gain more superiority in the Atlantic and to grow their ties with European nations. In this paper I will talk about the people, the planning, the attack, and the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor bombing.

On April 19th, 1995 a homemade bomb made of a concoction of agricultural fertilizer, fuel, and other dangerous chemicals was left in a truck parked outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City. At 9:02 in the morning, it’s blast damaged over 300 buildings surrounding the vehicle and even flattened a third of the federal building. (Strom, 2015) The bomb took the lives of 168 people, including 19 children. It was found that two men, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Lynn Nichols were the ones who planted the device. Both men were found to be associated with a radical militia movement that sought revenge for a siege in Waco, Texas two years prior. The siege killed 82 Branch Davidians, of whom, multiple were related to the militia movement.

February 15th, 1898, the USS Maine was hit with a mine as it sat in the Havana Harbor. There is large speculation to whether that is the truth or not. Over the years it is still a topic of debate as of what caused the explosion. Some believe that the Spaniards did it, others believe it was a clumsy mistake of misplaced ammo, others believe it was a spontaneous coal fire that caught a box of ammunition on fire. No matter the cause, the loss of the ship and 260 of her crew was devastating to America at the time and led to strong feelings of dislike towards the Spaniards, leading to the Spanish-American war of 1898. The theories behind the explosion of the USS Maine is mainly focused around two ideas, there are many angles that can be viewed for the cause of this disaster and its fueling of the war that will be examined in this paper.

Also, Americans have become more aware of how and where to engage in the world. As a result of the attacks, the US now has a defense that totals to nearly half the global total and has military dominance over scene, air, and space. The US also has the capability to dispatch massive military power anywhere in the world making them the system shaper. Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired him as a security consultant in order to assess the building 's security. Although no arrests had yet been made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover in several mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the character of an anti-American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He concluded that the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New Jersey. Followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were subsequently convicted of the bombing.

In Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building was nearly destroyed from a nearby bomb. This bombing was the worst terrorist attack in the United States, before the nine-eleven attack in 2001. The bomb was contained in a rental truck, which was placed there by Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh then parked the truck on the north side of the Alfred P. Murrah building. At 9:02 A.M. the bomb went off, causing massive damage to the north side of the building and three hundred other surrounding buildings in the blast zone. The bombing had took 168 lives, 19 of those lives were children from the daycare inside the building.

April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City was destroyed by a bombing in the Murrah federal building. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were both sentenced after the bombing. McVeigh was sentenced to death and became the first federal prisoner to be executed since 1963. Later that year Nichols was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. After 2 weeks they claimed 168 people had died, 19 in which were children.

The USS Cole Navy destroyer was attacked on October 12, 2000, by a small boat loaded with explosives while it was being refueled at the harbor in Aden, Yemen. This terrorist attack killed 17 of the ship’s crew members and extensively damaged the ship, and injured 39 others. The facts of this terrorist attack to date indicate that it may have been executed by Islamic radicals with credible links to the terrorist group headed by Usama bin Ladin (O’Rourke & Perl. 2001).

The battleships, primary targets in the attack, remained anchored along an area referred to as “Battleship Row”. Within minutes after the assault began the USS Arizona sunk to the bottom of the bay taking 1,177 lives with her

In every history textbook, Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. It was a surprise attack that led the United States into WWII. Japan intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the U.S. military from interfering with military actions, planning to take over Southeast Asia. The following day, December 8, the United States declared war on Japan. However, new evidence shows that this can be false. Researchers had found that the U.S provoked the Japanese into bombing Pearl Harbor. So, if the textbooks are differentiating from the new evidence, did the U.S provoke Japan into war?

The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941 at 7:50 AM on a Sunday morning. There were over 3500 Navy, Army, and Marine troops killed. Four battleships were sunk and many military vessels were heavily damaged. The U.S. and Japan had not yet declared war and the U.S. military divisions were not on any type of wartime alert.

September 11, 2001 marked the most horrific day in history for United States of America. The events of this day changed the lives of those residing in America forever. United States was considered somewhat safe, in regards to terrorists’ attacks. However, this all came to a screeching halt when 19 militants known to be a part of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group hijacked four planes for the purpose of destroying targeted areas in the United States. As a result of the deadly attack on the United States, security measures drastically changed. Although, security measures throughout the United States have been in place, extreme caution came into effect. All departments looked at different measures to improve preventing terrorists’ attacks.
