THE COMING, which from the title sounds like a horror movie is actually one about morality and non denominational faith. It follows Devon, a half Native American 20 something with remarkable abilities which had emerged at a young age because he was able to let go of fear, anger, hatred and greed and become more evolved. He is “The Brother” in THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET, without actually being an alien. While addressing the nature of faith, THE COMING also touches on environmental concerns, Native American rights, freedom of the press, the mafia, and the power of the government and corporations. The LA based script calls for an incredibly diverse array of characters from their ethnicity to their background. But, the overall abundance of characters makes it difficult to keep track of everyone and how they are connected. This also causes it to be very dialogue heavy with each new introduction and exposition, especially the final act. The script alternates between three storylines, that of Devon and his mission, that of Jenna the reporter and her coverage …show more content…
Devon is presented as being extremely well read and educated, but he still seems childlike and innocent. And so, when Sophia enters the picture it feels a bit like the film BIG. For two weeks we see the two together in typical romantic film montage fashion, but not once does he kiss her or make a move. And yet, even though he seems innocent, it also feels like that in coming in contact with Devon, Sophia has lost her free will. She is completely and totally enamored by him, barely able to go without him It feels like a cruel and awful joke when she is killed as if she was just a plot device to make sure that Devon completed his task and knew his way. When she is brought back her character is further damaged by the murder of her parents. These elements take away from what is otherwise a promising
As a group, we selected The Other Guys, a comedy movie taking place in the New York City police department. The story involves two mismatched detectives that attempt to seize an opportunity in the department. In the movie, The Other Guys, the department is run by Captain Gene Mauch. The atmosphere in the department runs in a way that focuses on two main detectives doing most of the action outside the office. These two-star detectives are Danson and Highsmith, who are played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson. However, a shootout with robbers results in the deaths of Danson and Highsmith, leaving a hole in the department. After mourning the death of the detectives, everyone in the office desires the opportunity to be the lead detectives of the department. The movie follows two of the detectives in the department as they attempt to fill the role of lead detectives. These characters are Allen Gamble, played by Will Ferrell, and Terry Hoitz, played by Mark Wahlberg. Both Allen and Terry have pasts that have been plagued by bad luck. Allen was once a pimp turned detective after being rushed to the hospital from poison ivy in his butt. Terry shot Derek Jeter during the Major League Baseball Playoffs. Even though Allen and Terry have been plagued by bad luck, they hope that making the arrest of all time would turn their life around.
Edwidge Danticat uses her memoir to show how powerful a voice is to have, how it makes a difference in not only your life, but the ones without a voice, the ones who cannot speak for themselves. In the book, Brother, I’m Dying, written by Edwidge Danticat, which tells us how her younger life growing up in Haiti with her uncle, affects her after she moves to the US to be with her parents at the age of 10 years old, this drastically changes the relationships she has with her uncle and father, creating a new family dynamic. The suggestion of voice is shown in many ways, while her reasoning is constant, Danticat faced many situations in her life that have shaped her beliefs and formed her opinions on individual standings. Danticat’s memoir
How many 40-year-old unemployed slackers do you know? Now imagine 2 of them under the same roof obnoxiously fighting about childish things. Step Brothers from start to finish is exactly this displaying 2 outrageously comical actors in Will Ferrell and John C Reilly bickering back and forth trying to learn how to cope with one another. The glory of this film comes from the constant one liners that make no sense but fit the film perfectly, the childish behavior, and the elementary school comebacks mixed in with the adult language which adds a different but great comical sense that few movies have been able to portray before. Such as when Ferrell refers to Reilly as a “Big, fat, curly-headed f***”. This line had me rolling on the floor due to the seriousness of Ferrell and the reaction of Reilly and the fact that it is a simple 3rd grade insult with an F-bomb thrown in there that just makes it all that more funny. Although Talladega Nights and the Anchorman trilogy had better storylines none compare to the pure comedy that Step Brothers provides. Step Brothers is Will Ferrell’s most entertaining movie made to date, and is one that can be watched over and over without losing its humor.
The film O brother, where art thou? is set in the Great Depression of the 1930’s and emphasizes the struggle between the upper and lower classes by using a variety of cinematic devices. Through the use of these cinematic devices and comedic relief the realities of the Depression are viewed without creating a stark, melancholy, documentary-styled film. Examples in this film of these cinematic devices used to show these realities include:
In the movie, the Babadook, the characters express their grief that never leaves. It grows as “monster” that one learns how to deal with because losing someone is never gets easier. These scenes are compared and contrasted through mise-en-scè, cinematography, and editing. This scene analysis is going relate two scenes that helps understand what one goes through after a lost. The movie has characters that help express the misery of one that doesn’t learn how to grieve in a proper manner. How one overcomes the pain and changes for the better and slowly has better days. A brighter day might not come tomorrow, but learning how to control your days come within time.
While Jenny repeatedly rejects Forrest as her lover, she is romantically attracted to him enough to keep coming back into his life. After Forrest’s mother passes away Jenny comes back, saying she misses home and is here to stay. Even after leaving again, she comes back into Forrest’s life with a letter, inviting him to her Georgia home, which brings Forrest to the bus stop where he narrates his autobiography.
This structure is commonly seen in any film or television production, as using the structure makes sure that the narrative is continuing to move forward, and is developing. The film plot line I will be studying and making an analysis on is The Lost Boys.
The movie for this essay is Brothers (2009), the film opens with Captain Sam Cahill as the main character who is a marine captain. Having been married to her high school lover, they had two daughters. This is an indication that Sam was also a family man. Before Sam is set to depart to Afghanistan, his brother Tommy is released from a prison where he had been convicted of armed robbery at a bank. After Sam departs to Afghanistan in October 2007, news emerge that Sam’s chopper had crashed in an operation and all the marines inside it had died.
While I was reading Brotherband The Invaders, by John Flanagan. Thorn told the crew to run down the shore and back but he told Edvin to stay back and cook. Then when they got back, they got to eat their breakfast and then Thorn told Edvin to run.

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood leaves the audience questioning, asking, and wanting more. The entirety of the film is a recollection of memories and experiences throughout the course of Mason’s childhood. Overall Boyhood is like an unsolved puzzle with missing pieces that aren’t enough to solve the puzzle. The entire movie is questionable and has so many gaps in-between each memory that there really is no plot. Since there isn’t a plot it makes you question if it is really about boyhood, about family, maybe Mason’s childhood, or girlhood. Certain questions begin to formulate like, why doesn’t Linklater use the typical format of storytelling during Mason’s childhood? How come we never know what happened between Oliva and Mason Sr? Why doesn’t

For the GCSE unit two exam we studied the play Blood Brothers by Willy Russell we used drama techniques to analyse the different Features' of the play. Also, we went into detail with the context behind the meaning of the play. We used the script as a stimulus to generate a story with the text from the play. For example, we used a specific part in the play where the narrator stated “How quickly an idea planted can take root and grow into a plan. The thought conceived in this very room grew as surely as a seed in the mother's womb”.
The longest yard was released on May 27, 2005. The director was Peter Segal and the producer was Jack Giarraputo. This movie was about inmates playing football against prison guards. (IMDb.com, Inc., 2017) Now I’m sure some things that happened in the movie happens in a real jail. I never heard of inmates playing football against the guards. Now a day that would probably turn out so bad. This movie to me didn’t show how it really is in prison. The image is
The movie in which I chose to do my movie analysis on was not one from the list provided. However, it is one of my all-time favorite movies The Band of Brothers a miniseries by HBO. I chose to do this one over the other because not only is it very entertaining and keeps you want to watch more, just to see what happens to everyone invaded but also because of the history be hide the story. The fact that they used real life experiences to help make the film just made it that much better. I watch The Band of Brothers at least a few times a year so I was happy to do this assignment.
