An additional article which focuses on the topic of marijuana, “National Substance Use Patterns on Twitter”, is written by a group of four researchers studying the patterns of legal and illegal drugs in the United States. The purpose of the researchers’ study was to identify the most popular drug tweeted about on Twitter in order to pinpoint the most effective way to campaign against substance abuse. The group gathered a total of 79,848,992 tweets that were related to substance abuse. After sorting the tweets out by substance, the researchers came to the conclusion that alcohol was the most tweeted about substance. Marijuana was the second most tweeted about drug. The authors ended the article by concluding that online discussions have a tendency to glorify and normalize substance abuse. This source supports the argument that people are often influenced by their friends to use marijuana. There are many factors that contribute in causing of addiction, such as social, psychological, genetic factors.

Drug use in America is a major public health problem that impacts society on many levels, either directly or indirectly. Drugs take a tremendous toll on our communities and our families. It affects all of us, those who abuse these substances and those who don't. Many of America's top medical problems can be directly linked to drug abuse. Cancer, heart disease and HIV/AIDS are just a few. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drugs are involved in 10 to 22% of traffc accidents. At least half of individuals arrested for violent crimes like homicide and assault are under the influence of illicit drugs.

On further extent, all addictions have the capacity to induce the feeling of shame and guilt, sense of hopelessness and feeling of failure. Moreover depression and anxiety are the most common conditions among the addicts. All the addictions have a great impact on various circuits of brain including those which are related to reward, motivation and memory.

Addiction is a neurological disease. It is like a disease as is cancer and heart disease. Addiction is caused from substance abuse and affects your brain in only negative ways. Many people suffer from addiction but not everyone wants to believe it is a disease.

Johann Hari’s article title says “The Likely Cause of Addiction Has Been Discovered, and It Is Not What You Think,” after reading the article, it is exactly what comes to mind. Johann Hari points out some important themes on the drug addiction but it is not the only thing that can cause an addiction.

When examining all of today's social and economic problems, and putting them in perspective one of the largest to emerge is drug addiction. Drug addiction is by far one of the biggest epidemics, not only in America but worldwide. Addiction throughout mankind has made its malicious presence known in all walks of life. There are many factors that lead people down this tedious path, such as traumatic events, bad influences, and even genetics can play a role. Although there are many of factors that lead people down this terrible path there are ways to help guide the astray. Some notable solutions include, rehabs, expressing oneself through literature, and even some modern mobile technology.

The effects of substance abuse in society are easily visible but what of the effects it causes to the individual, and the family? How do substance abusers become addicted and what are the ways families support their behavior? In this essay I will be going over the main causes of substance abuse and the change it has on the abuser, and the ways families support the behaviors of the user will being damaged by their use. As defined by the World Health Organization substance abuse is “the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and illicit drugs.” Or when the use of substances becomes dangerous to the user and those around them.

    Most people believe that drug addicts lack morals and self-control.  Many insist that addicts could all just simply say no to drugs; however, I know addiction is not this at all. From years of watching my brother go to rehab, living a sober life, then watching him become a jittery mess again, I know drug addiction is a disease and a war. A war that 23 million people are facing everyday (National Institute on Drug Abuse). Some people can overcome it, but the hard truth is that more than 64,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2016, including my brother, Steven Summers (National Institute on Drug Abuse). This horrific issue can affect anyone, no matter the social class or where they are from. Addiction is in classrooms, corporate offices, and yes, on the streets. It is an issue that has an awful stigma that must be ended.

Drug addiction within the healthcare has become a very important issue. Drug-addicted Doctors & Health Care Professionals (2015) studied that “doctors and other health care workers are addicted to drugs in the same proportion as the general population” (para, 1). Anesthesiologists, specifically, continuously shows an increase rate of drug misuse. There are many factors that contribute to the abuse of drugs to include: access to drugs, high stress environment, control-oriented personality. The main drugs that are being abused are fentanyl, sufentanil, merperidine, and morphine (substance abuse among anesthesiologists, 2012).

Drug and alcohol abuse continues to be a problem in the United States. The drugs affect people of all race and social economic back ground. All American such as poverty, crime, homelessness, middle class and white collar and domestic violence share a common ground in drug and alcohol abuse. Contrary to what many people think, drug and alcohol abuse is not just a personal problem. Drug and alcohol is a social problem that affect everyone. Families are known to suffer as someone they know have a substance problem. Politicians, lawmakers, and counselors have been seeking for solutions for years. As a result, crimes are being committed while under the influence of these substances. Many people are going to choose to experiment with drug and alcohol despite all risk. Some politicians and lawmaker believe way to eradicate drug and alcohol abuse treat it as a crime with server punishment. In the United States court system all citizen have the right to a fair trial regardless of their social economic status, but parents are worried.

Have you ever dealt with the effects of drug addict? A drug is a person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, which has a psychological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. The effects of drug use can vary depending on the person. According to “Causes and types of narcotic addiction: A Psychosocial View” in the Psychiatric Quarterly it says, “The causes of drugs stem from the manner of which you were introduced to it whether it be by abnormal curiosity, chance encounters with addicts and narcotic peddlers, or prolonged illness” (Ausubel). The effects of drugs can be have different effects on everyone differently depending if its for pleasure or for relieving pain Most of the effects of drugs occur in the brain, where it increases the level of dopamine at a specific site possibly giving the addict the pleasure they were feigning for (Robbins). As a child I didn’t know much about drugs except for what your parents and teachers at school tell you which is, “Just Say No.”
