The Leading Causes Of Addiction

What causes sibling rivalry can be many different things. I know firsthand about sibling rivalry. I have a younger brother name Christian. He is seventeen and a junior in High school. We fight like cats and dogs. Even though he is six foot one, we still try to wrestle. When I come home from college on the weekends, my brother and I will go out and do something. Most of the times we go out to eat. Christian and I have a connection between the two of us that no matter where the other person is we will still fight with each other. Then we will be best friends the next day. No matter what we are doing, we both have our own opinions about things. However, coming from a divorced family puts a strain on my brothers and my relationship. Neither of us wants to hurt either of our parent’s feelings in anything we say or do. So instead of our fighting with our parents, my brother and I take it out of each other. There are three things that cause sibling rivalry. First off, fighting for the parent’s attention is something that happens with all siblings. Secondly, fighting with the other sibling. My brother and I fight all the time, but at the end of the day, we both love each other. The last thing that causes sibling rivalry is comparing one another.

The TED Talk, “Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong” explains what truly causes addiction and how we can over come it. It has been 100 years since drugs were ban in USA only because we think it would discourage drug usage. What the general population thinks about using heroine for 20 days is that your body would get addicted to it. If you use this same addiction concept and apply it to a medical situation of getting hit by a car, causing the doctors in the hospital to give you diamorphine (which is the pure heroine) you should result in becoming addicted to it. There have never been any studies that result in this addiction.

Teenage drug abuse is an issue that can result from a wide variety of social influences, stressful events, and mental disorders. Drug abuse among adolescents is a troubling issue because it decreases focus, increases the chance of consistency in behavior during adulthood, increases the chances of developing emotional issues, permanently damages the brain, and damages tissues in every system that can lead to death. Previous scientific research has identified that social factors, including the media and peers, play an important role in psychological development and impact the adolescent's decision to start experimenting with substances (Botvin 888). Addiction is usually something that starts as a habit, and slowly but surely works itself into a major problem that takes a lot of attention and help to overcome. Americans today tend to not realize we’re slowly being separated from each other. Whether it be electronics keeping us away from the family at night or just social media that keeps us from going outside and actually socializing. It has become a serious problem and it happens more and more as we continue to advance in technology. Not to mention it's forming another problem in the way we’ve shaped our societies so that it's extremely easy to be cut off from human connections without even realizing it. Johann Hari, The author of “The Likely Cause of Addiction” pulled my attention towards realizing that this addiction is a fast paced growing problem. Hari Specifically states,"We have created human societies where it is easier for people to become cut off from all human connections than ever before." He’s basically stating that it’s become way too easy to be disconnected from our society and its gotten worse over time. Honestly I agree with how he thinks, we don’t realize it but we’re all being slowly cut off from our society. Whether we like it or not we’ve created our society to be the way it is, and it caused us to be so easily disconnected from one another.

Adolescent substance use is a serious issue in the United States. Children as young as nine years old and adolescents are experimenting with licit substances, such as tobacco (McWhirter, McWhirter, McWhirter, & McWhirter, 2013). When adolescents experiment with tobacco and alcohol, they are more likely to experiment with harder drugs, such as marijuana, methamphetamines, and inhalants (McWhirter et al, 2013). The use of drugs and alcohol can cause adolescents to engage in more risky and deviant behavior. Thus, it is imperative for counselors and other helping professionals to understand the predictors behind adolescent drug and alcohol use. This paper will discuss three of the main predictors of adolescent drug and alcohol use, which are family-related variables, peer-related variables, and individual variables and how they are connected to the potential substance use of at-risk youth.

There are several theories when it comes to addiction. One being that addiction is choice and the individual lacks morals and character. Another big theory is that environment has a lot more to do with addiction than any one believes so.

Much attention, from the public as well as medical and legal communities, is focused on addictions to alcohol, prescription drugs, and illegal substances. These addictions can be very dangerous to the addicts and often to the people around them. Food addiction does not seem to be in the same class as these other addictions after all, everyone needs to eat. However, new studies show that food can indeed be an addiction for some people, and as dangerous to their health as if they abused alcohol or drugs.

Alcohol seeking behaviours and Substance use is an individual behavior that reflects underlying dysfunction in the family (Klagsbrun & Davis, 1977; Stanton et al., 1982). Many researchers consider that the family has a crucial role in preventing delinquent behaviors and behaviors related to substance abuse. The quality of parenting has been linked to psychological well-being, stress and social support. It was also found to be a predictor of antisocial behaviors and substance abuse (Velleman, Templeton & Copello, 2005). A child 's family is responsible for the socialization process. It is important that the family helps the child socialize in a way that helps them adjust to the demands and possibilities of their environment and social circle. However, if the family does not succeed in this task, it can have a negative effect on the child 's development and ability to adapt to the world outside (Velleman, Templeton & Copello, 2005).

Addictions are sometimes formed from habits. For example, if you take a drug for a medical condition then you may develop an addiction to the drug.

Addiction is when you become addicted to smoking or doing drugs and you find it hard to quit. Addiction causes cigarettes and drugs to mess up the chemicals in the brain causing it to be an imbalance. Most people who get their first taste of a drug or their first puff of a cigarette are when they are teenagers; as time past and they get older they become addicted to it. When they become addicted, they can no longer live without that drug or cigarette. Getting addicted to drugs and cigarettes can be caused by anything, but the common ones are caused by peer pressure at school, and any type of stress. As a teen, you care how people think of you; so you desperately try to fit in with the group. In the end, you end up suffering the consequence

There are many factors that increase the likelihood of someone becoming addicted. One's genealogy, and environment play very powerful roles in the likelihood of addiction, but the nature and condition of someone's psychological state is the most impactful factor. Someone's psychological state ultimately dictates their behavior and effects their actions. Unfortunately many people who are born with a psychological disorder commonly have predisposed behavioral traits that were created and instilled in them by the psychological effect the disorder has on their personality.

Peer pressure shows up the most when adolescents come in contact with drugs and alcohol while they are with friends. Kathiann Kowalski from the book Teens at Risk says that “Teenagers are particularly vulnerable to peer influences” (Egendorf, L. K., & Hurley, J. A., P. 43). Some obvious ways to tell if an adolescent is being peer pressured is how they act around a certain group of people and doing things that they wouldn’t normally do. “In a NIDA-funded study, teens driving with their friends in the car were more likely to take risks—like speeding through yellow lights—if they knew that two or more of their friends were watching” (Why Does Peer Pressure Influence Teens To Try Drugs?). Many teens have an impulse when they are with friends to try and act out to impress their friends. Drugs and alcohol have also always been a major concern to parents with adolescents only

What makes a person addicted to drugs? Most people know the bad things that will happen to drug users: they become addicted. Curiosity is the first major cause that leads to drug addiction throughout the nation. The second cause is the desire to escape from reality through drugs and can lead the user to become addicted. Lastly, the everyday environment around the individual can push him or her to become addicted to drugs. Drug addiction is a serious problem that are caused by curiosity, escapement from reality, and the environment around us.
