My personal definition of unemployment is a person that can work but is unable to find a job, and people that can work but are too lazy to go out and find a job. There are many people that are unemployed nowadays. I think to myself, “do you not get bored sitting around doing absolutely nothing?” As we look around our towns here in southern Illinois, there aren’t many good paying jobs unless you go to college to get a degree for your bright future. The jobs around southern Illinois are mostly coal mines, health care, fast food restaurants, and convenience stores. Many individuals who are unemployed, do not have a job, and may be using a link card. Individuals using link cards usually have a baby and keep having babies to get more money. In doing this they are living off of the government everyday of their lifetime. When I see people buying alcohol and other unnecessary items like this with a link card, it breaks my heart especially if their is a child with the individual. I’m going to talk about the causes and effects of unemployment in our area, and how it would affect a person’s lifestyle and their surroundings. Many causes of unemployment in todays society are related to the coal mines. There are tons of coal mines shutting down in Illinois. One of these days there isn’t going to be any left. My father had worked at Peabody Willow Lake coal mine in Equality, Illinois for twenty years, when they suddenly had a lay off and shut down the mine. Willow Lake was a low coal
Unemployment is currently measured in the United States by counting those who "do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior four weeks, and are currently available for work" (Leonhardt). This means that a great deal of people are not counted as unemployed because they are discouraged and have not looked for work in the past four weeks. Or, the person was injured in some way and they are "not currently" available for work. This does not mean that the people in either of these groups do not actually wish to find work, but it does mean that they are not counted because of an archaic system that has been used by
What really causes unemployment? Is it because of people being lazy or college kids are just getting into the real world and cannot seem to get a job. Many people struggle to find jobs to provide for their families. Jodi Beggs (2014) in her blog discuss voluntary, involuntary, frictional, and cyclical unemployment. There is always an cause and effect that tend to happen within life. Some people may be laid off which causes them to be unemployed. Unemployment leads to poverty within American because people do not have to funds to servicf.
According to an article written by Sam Kennedy (Kennedy, 2014), the Lehigh Valley lost jobs this past February for the first time in about four years. This pushed some long-term unemployed persons and
Unemployment Issues in the United States Unemployment is one top issue that our government faces on a daily basis. Many people are being unemployed as we speak. Even though the government is trying to take a lead on this major issue, the rate of unemployment is just too high. Why I feel strongly about this issue is because many of us continue to search for jobs daily and still no reply. There are many reasons behind being unemployed and those reasons are little issues that the governor himself can fix within a year or so. We are still jobless, the minimum wage is too low and most of the jobs that pay well always ask if one Spanish.
I think that one of the biggest problems our economy has to face right now is the unemployment rate. Nationwide, our unemployment rate is 4.9%, that means that approximately 7.8 million people are considered to be part of our labor resource but not working. In Louisiana the unemployment rate is at 6.9% and locally in Lafayette it is 7.8%, There are a great number of reasons a person becomes unemployed, health issues, lack of education, lack of experience and the lack of available positions. Sadly, in our area, it is becoming commonplace to hear of a company laying off people or a neighbor who has lost their job. Oil field companies are struggling to stay afloat and unfortunately one of the first things they cut in their budgets are jobs. Our labor resources can be affected by many variables but within the last year locally, it
Unemployment is when a person does not have a job and will not be able to make a money or get a salary at the end of the day.
“Unemployment is high (8.3% of the working population, with youth unemployment alone now at over 1 million” Unemployment doesn’t just effect an individuals financial status and social economic group. Unemployment can cause and aggravate mental health. Unemployment can lead to financial difficulties many people struggle with state benefits being their only source of income. The unemployed have constant battles to settle bills and purchase necessities with often turning to pay-day-loans and credit cards. Unemployment can lead to person belonging and housing
In the United States, the unemployment rate measures the number of people actively searching for employment as a fraction of the labor force. While things seem to be looking up for the economy with lower gas prices and grocery bills are decreasing, unemployment still seems the plague the country. Only 63 percent of working-age Americans have a job or are actively looking for one -- the lowest share of the population participating in the labor force since 1978. (The population of working-age Americans here includes anyone over the age of 16, including those who have retired and students). Some of this is due to the fact that Baby Boomers retiring" HuffPost 's Mark Gongloff wrote. “Most of it has to do with the fact that the economy is still too weak to create enough jobs to draw people into the market. This is most clearly evident in the fact that younger people are leaving the labor force, too or never even entering it because they can 't find jobs” (Goyette, 2014).
According to the definition provided by the American Psychological Association, socioeconomic status is defined as a class of a group or individual that is characterized by income, employment and education. The Appalachian region is its own geographical and statistical region that is set apart from the non-Appalachian United States.
In the modern American society, many well-educated people cannot get a good job, such as Jennifer, an American woman who lose her job and get a low-paid job but she gives up because the salary can’t afford the expenses of the whole family. According to the latest article on Market Watch website, Jeffry Bartash showed the data about the current percentage of unemployment and assumed that though the firms offer many opportunities to work, the unemployment rates still remain the same as before.
The United States has been experiencing the lowest rates of unemployment it has seen in several years. A person is considered unemployed if he/she is of working age and is actively looking for a job but cannot find one. An unemployment rate is found by dividing the number of workers that are unemployed by the number of people in the labor force and then multiplying this number by 100%. A labor force can be defined as all the people in a country who are able to work, whether they have a job or not. There is a “natural” rate of unemployment which indicates that there is no way to get the country at a 0% unemployment rate because of scenarios such as people who can’t find jobs because of a lack of information, people who do not have the motivation
Unemployment is the failure of a person to find jobs. (Schiller, 2006) This means that an unemployed person is one that is capable of working and is actively seeking for a job but is unable to find employment, which means that, this person is an active member of the labor force in search for job opportunities but unable to find one. This excludes full time students and homemakers who are not vigorously looking for jobs. Unemployment
Economic issues top the list of priorities for most American. Unemployment is a word that Americans hear on a daily basis. Currently the 62.7% of adults who are able to work are currently working and three major factors are driving the decrease in workers. Due to the large number of “baby boomers” who are retiring, which is healthy and understandable, we have a decline in the number of adults who work. Another positive reason is due to a larger number of college students and graduate students. The cause that is worrisome is the people who have “given up” on finding work. The Wall Street Journal estimates that about 2.6 million of the roughly 92 million American adults who don 't work want a job but aren 't looking for one (CNN, 2016). Politicians and citizens alike recognize this as a political concern.
Unemployment is a hardship that many face, whether college educated or not. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2015, 2.7% of all people with
Money is essential to any individual looking to have a decent lifestyle; labor is the avenue through which this is acquired. The economy goes through various fluctuations in activity causing unemployment to fall, rise, or level out. What this creates is the first type of unemployment, known as cyclical; frictional is the second type, caused by a temporary leave (for whatever reason) by the employee, and structural is the third type, varying with the economic changes in demand. The absence of unemployment at its maximum level is termed full employment, another version of unemployment. The term encompassing the sum of the frictional, structural, and, yet another type of unemployment, surplus unemployment is that of the natural rate of
