They’re so many reasons I was very interested in this topic about “possible causes of childhood autism.” For example, one is because my little brother is in the process of being diagnosed with autism.
Autism can mean a number of things. When people talk about autism, it can either mean autism spectrum disorder, which is a category of disorders, or classical autism ASD includes classical autism. So ASD and autism may be two different things. Autism is known as a complex developmental disability. ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder and can sometimes be referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder. A person with ASD will typically also prefer to stick to a set of behaviors and will resist any major (and many minor) changes to daily

There are a few steps to diagnosing autism. The steps include parent interviews, medical exams, hearing test, observation, a lead screening. If the symptoms seem severe then a speech and language evaluation, cognitive test, adaptive functioning assessments and sensory motor evaluation may be needed. Diagnosis is not a brief process, and has no single medical test. Autism can only be diagnosed by a specialist, including: child psychologists, child psychiatrists, speech pathologists, developmental pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, and audiologist, physical therapist, and special education teachers. The road to an autism diagnosis can be difficult and time-consuming. In fact, it is often two or three year after the first symptoms of autism are recognized before an official diagnosis is made. This is due in large part to concerns about labeling or incorrectly diagnosing the child. Because of the severity variety, a specialist may observe social interaction, and give speech tests, test communication, and have a genetic test given to a suspected autistic patient.
A person with autism usually has a routine which they follow. May people may see this is odd, and try to force the person may see with autism to accept change. In doing this, these people could adversely affect their quality of life. A person with autism usually finds sudden loud noises unpleasant and quite shocking. The same can happen with some smells and sudden changes in intensity of lighting
Do you ever wonder why some autistic children act differently from others? Autism Spectrum Disorder affects three different areas of a child's life; it affects social interactions, communication skills, and their behaviors and interest. Every child is different and has their own way of expressing themselves (Autism Response). Some children may have better social skills than others. Autistic kids do not know how to express themselves so they do so through their different behaviors. Many autistic children are even nonverbal and will make different noises to communicate. It is very easy for a child with Autism to get upset because of their sensory, emotional, and cognitive difficulties. Sensory problems, emotional difficulties, and uneven cognitive abilities are all symptoms of Autism. Some more than others, but these are the most common symptoms of Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder). For example, many of Autistic children can not express themselves like others who do not have the disorder. In many instances, it is very frustrating for both the child and whomever they are speaking to. If the child doesn't babble, coo, gesture (point, wave, grasp) by 12 months, doesn't speak not one single word by 16 months, and doesn't say any short 2 word phrases on their own by 24 months old they may have autism (Autism Spectrum Disorders Health Center). If a child is not showing any fine motor skills by 12 months, and not
Autism is a brain disorder that can affect a child’s development in the sense that they would have trouble with verbal and nonverbal communication, repetitive behavior, or social interaction in general. Autism can be detected in children ages two to three years old and 1 in every 88 children in America are diagnosed with autism yearly.
Autism is a form of neurodevelopment disorder in the autism spectrum disorders. It is characterized by impaired development in social interactions and communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is an observed lack of spontaneous acts of communication; both receptive and expressed, as well as speech impairments. A person diagnosed with Autism will also show a limited range of activities and interests, as well as forming and maintain peer relationships. The individuals will display limited interests, which are often very focused and repetitive. He or she is likely to be very routine oriented and may show behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggressiveness, and self-injurious behaviors.
Autism is a brain disorder that is characterized by slow and difficult comprehension of spoken and non-verbal communication and repetition of behaviors. Autism is normally noticed in the first two years of a child (Myers & Johnson, 2007). Asperger syndrome is an autistic disorder that has almost the same similarities with autism. People with Asperger syndrome have little comprehension of the world and its surroundings and poor communication with other people. People with Asperger syndrome are hard to recognize, as they do not show on their outward appearances. They are average or above average intellectually and have fewer problems in terms of speech and specific learning disabilities unlike in autism. These difficulties include dyslexia, epilepsy, and attention
People with autism suffer from a range of problems in their everyday life, not just those describe at the top. For example, people with autism have physical are sensitive or lack sensitivity to textures, tastes, sounds, light or smells and due to this they can become emotionally overwhelmed and tune out or break down. When it comes to social skills they give very little or no eye contact, become very resistant to being held or even touched, and prefers to be alone or is overly friendly and this leads to behaviors, which frustration is shown in unusual ways, unusual attachments to objects, etc. However their is not only one type of ASD, there are 5 different types of autism. The first type is "Asperger 's Syndrome" which is the mildest form of autism due to the high functioning and good verbal skills performance. The second type is " Autistic Disorder" which is when the patient meets the
Autism is a biological disorder that roots in the human beings brain and slowly damages it in specific ways. The effects of the autism mostly start to show in the early ages of the children. Many parents disregard the change in the behavior of their children and thus ignore the possibility that their children may have some of the illness. The changes in the behavior of the child from the normal growing children such as being too quiet around others or does not speak to you and sometimes he/she even does unusual things like making weird noises for no reason are some of the signs of an autistic child. When parents notice such behavior from their child, it is time to see a neurological therapist.
Currently 1 in 68 children are affected with ASD, which a majority of them being boys. Diagnosis for this disorder begins around age 2 or 3 and major symptoms include the inability to communicate and interact easily with others and difficulty interpreting body language. Parents are more likely to diagnose their child with autism through their child's behavior and since there is no medical test that can be done, most medical doctors rely on
Repetitive behaviors like head banging and repetitive routines are consistent for individuals with autism. If the routine is disturbed, he or she screams and throws a temper tantrum (Wing, 24). Like their need for consistency in routines, autistics also need and demand absolute consistency in their environment. Changes in their environment cause them to act negatively (“Autism”). And individual with autism has a different sensory system than normal people, the stimulations are affected differently. For example, they have oversensitivity to light and this oversensitivity may cause seizures (“Autism”). At least one quarter of children with autism have an epilectic seizure before they become an adult. Other behaviors that may occur are high levels or anxiety, odd fears (ex. of color or shape), and emotions that change from one extreme to the other (Wing 31+; Siegel 49).
Students with autism can become overwhelmed very easily by even minor deviations from the routine. It is important to be sensitive to the way autistic children function so that their potential can be reached.
According to Shangraw (2012), there is no concrete etiology of autism because it is not diagnosed by its cause but on observed behaviors. The Autism-Society (n.d.) stated that a possibility for the cause of autism is the abnormalities in the brain structure or function. In an MRI research study by Piven et al. (1995), they found that an individual with autism spectrum disorder had a higher total brain volume and tissue compared to a person who is not on the autism spectrum disorder. Genetic problems and environmental factors can be a cause of autism spectrum disorder, according to the Mayo Clinic (2014). In genetic problems such as fragile X syndrome or Rett Syndrome, it can be associated with autism spectrum disorder. There is ongoing research regarding environmental factors and exploring ideas such as viral infections, pregnancy complications, and / or air pollutants to determine if they are active factors of autism spectrum disorder.
Autism is more appropriately thought of in terms of the broader phrase “autism spectrum disorder. The term spectrum emphasis that the disabilities associated with ASD fall on a continuum from relatively mild to severe. Symptoms of ASD are wide-ranging the DSM-5 divides them into two general domains: “social communication impairment” and “repetitive/restricted behaviors.”
Many autistic people have trouble making out what is said to them, as they have trouble processing sound. Vision may also be affected. Some autistic people have trouble recognizing people. This means that learning to recognize someone is hard, recognition may be slow, faces tend to be analyzed rather than recognized automatically, and many normal effects of seeing a person may be absent. The exact effects and severity may vary between people. Other autistic people may have their eyes hurt by bright light or certain flickering or vibrating frequencies (All).
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) includes an extensive kind of social, mental, emotional and sometimes physical conditions that are challenging to treat. “It is estimated that 12-16% children have a developmental or behavioral disorder and about 4-12 children have autistic spectrum disorder, and about 1 in 150 children have autistic disorder, also commonly called autism.” The Autism Spectrum Disorder is more prevalent in males than females that diagnosis peaks at ages of 6 to 11 years old. (Ball, Bindler, & Cowen, 2015). The cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is still unknown. Many have expressed concerns and have spread some rumors that the cause of ASD is due to the relationship of Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine (MMR). However,
The cause of Autism remains unknown and it is thought that it is likely a combination of
Autism is actually a general name for many types of disorders closely related. I will be talking about what individuals experience in general. Parents may notice that their child acts strangely when it comes to everyday routines. They may also notice strange things he or she does with his or her body. In the article Autism Spectrum Disorders there is a heading called “Restrictive behavior and play”. It describes certain behaviors performed by people with autism. Some may move a body part over and over. He or she may have trouble being still, needing to be constantly moving. One bullet point states “A strong need for sameness, order, and routines (e.g. lines up toys, follows a rigid schedule) gets upset by change in their routine or environment”. Kids may be obsessed over certain things such as trains, airplanes, or even maps. These behaviors may be accompanied by several other side effects of autism, such as having trouble with communication, severe anxiety when it comes to everyday occurrences, and have trouble with certain
