For many years, global warming has become a more popular debate among people and scientists everywhere. Many people argue that global warming is happening because of human activities and others believe that there is no real proof that it is occurring. Global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. This is largely due to the increased levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants in the atmosphere. All over the world, temperatures have risen, severe droughts, and heavy rainfall has occurred. The rise in average temperatures and ocean temperatures, rise in sea level due to melting glaciers, and oceans becoming more acidic are reasons why many scientists believe that global warming is occurring. On the other hand, scientists argue that there is simply not enough historical data to prove that this is true. These scientists claim that early predictions and models are unrealistic and unreliable. Global warming is a real issue that has caused rising global temperatures, rising ocean temperatures, melting glaciers, and ocean acidification. The temperature of the Earth has been rising in the past century. According to an article published on NASA, these temperatures will continue to rise in years to come. Rising temperatures can cause many problems for people all around the world. In some places, higher temperatures may make it easier for droughts and heat waves to occur. This is very inconvenient for farmers that need to keep their crops
We might disagree on the causes of global warming; however, we cannot ignore that it is happening. Although we still experience cold winters, average global temperatures has risen drastically for the past three decades. Polar ice caps are melting; as a result, sea levels are rising. Scientist predict more extreme weather in the coming decades, in fact, droughts will probably be more common. Also, flooding and tropical temperatures might cause large amounts of methane gases to be released, which could be disastrous for our atmosphere. Climate change may have human causes and also it might be a natural occurrence. Nevertheless, we must find ways to save our planet.
“More than a million species face potential extinction as a result of disappearing habitats, changing ecosystems, and acidifying oceans” (Berger). Climate change affects all living things on the earth and is accelerating because of human activity. Climate change is happening right now, scientists are trying to figure out what is causing it, what the effects of climate change are, and they are researching how the atmosphere has changed.
What are climate change and global warming? Does it affect today’s earth? To know what is climate change and global warming we must know what does weather and climate mean. Weather is what circumstances of the atmosphere are over a short period of time. Climate is how the atmosphere acts over fairly long periods of time. Since 1977 earth has been extraordinary warmer than its average. But what causes the earth to get warmer? The main cause of climate change and global warming is made by human activities putting too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Why are the temperatures are steadily getting hotter? Summers getting longer and winters shorter? Glaciers melting and sea levels rising? The reason is Global Warming. What is Global Warming? Global warming is when the world, the globe’s temperature increases and it starts to get hotter. The reason it starts to increase is because of what is called the greenhouse gases. The green house gases are mainly caused by humans which also means that , the humans are causing global warming. Humans have been releasing gases into the air as they go on with their modern lives. The main gas that goes into the atmosphere is carbon dioxide and that comes from everyone, 28% comes from transportation ,10% from agriculture, 20% from industry, 10% commercial and residential, 32% electricity that's 82% of carbon dioxide that's in the atmosphere. The other 18% comes from Methane 9%, nitrous oxide 6%, Fluorinated gases 3%. The first time they discovered and saw the increase in greenhouse emissions was back in 1800’s when the first industrial revolution was happening the scientist discovered this by studying the ancient ice, they also discovered that the level of the carbon dioxide was 290 parts per million (ppm). By 1960 Charles Keeling measured the level of carbon dioxide and it measured 315 ppm. By 1970 April 22 the world marked the first Earth Day on their calendars to raise awareness and help their environment. It wasn't until 1976 that the scientist discovered that carbon
Climate change is the change in weather patterns for an extended period of time and is also referred to as ¨global warming.¨ It is a widely researched and controversial topic because some do not believe it is actually a problem in the world today. However, a few academic sources and NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has ample evidence and resources to prove that it is a problem. Climate change and global warming is occurring in the world today and it has extreme effects on the earth's environment.
Abstract: Anthropogenic action has caused and significantly increased amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. These greenhouse gasses are contributing to climate change and causing many systems of the Earth to change, specifically the soil. Soil is home to a wide range of microbes that play an important role in soil structure formation and the carbon cycle. With warming of the soil, microbes are decomposing organic matter more rapidly and as a result, are releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, creating a positive feedback loop. The microbes in soil are also changing because of climate change and they are changing very rapidly, making it unclear how long it would take for the microbes and carbon cycle to revert back to their previous state.
Global Warming is the heating of the globe due to the collection of CO2 and other pollutants that cause the greenhouse gases to collect and cause the sun’s rays to reflect on earth’s surface. Instead of the rays reflecting back to space, they collect in the atmosphere resulting in higher temperatures. Due to Global Warming, Antarctica is losing the majority of its ice resulting in starvation of many animals. Polar bear populations are seeing a decrease in their population due to global warming. They do not have enough seals to hunt because the lack of sea ice. The causes of global warming are the burning of fuels. Factories are burning fossil fuels in order to operate their plants are is an immediate cause of global warming. The societal view that everyone should have a car and you are viewed lesser if you don’t is a remote cause. Issues that blend into global warming would be the political and economic issues such as the recent political race between presidents where global warming was given more light. Immediate effects that are being seen are the ice melting in polar-regions, and the increased flooding in regions. Long term effects are the decline in animal populations and the increase of ocean water temperatures. The Earth’s population needs to look at the causes of this dangerous thing, and began taking action. There are many causes to this disaster, but I am going to focus on how burning fossil fuels have impacted the environment.
Climate change is a change in regional or global climate patterns. The change in the usual weather found in a place could be a change in how much rain a place usually gets in a year. Climate change is always changing in the last 100 years the climate has gone up one degree Fahrenheit. The increased levels of carbon dioxide is produced by the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels is a big part of climate change. Fossil fuels are any combustible organic material. Some examples of fossil fuels are coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil shales, bitumens, tar sands, and heavy oils. People all around the world depend on these fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, power industry and manufacturing, and provide everyone with electricity. The burning of some fossil fuels by humans is one of the biggest source of outflow of carbon dioxide, which is a part of global warming. Global warming is an increase in the earth's average temperature that causes similar changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect. Human activity is one of the reasons Earth has global warming. According to the National Climate Assessment, human influences are the number one cause of global warming, especially the carbon pollution we cause by burning fossil fuels and the pollution. Also the oceans are rising which is causing floods. Average temperatures in the Arctic are rising twice as fast as other places on Earth, and the world's ice caps are melting fast. The melting of ice caps is an effect
Over the years, it has been evident through the reported news that the weather in many parts of the world is unpredictable. Climate change is a large-scale, long-term shift in the planet's weather patterns or average temperatures (Met Office, 2015). Climate Change has not always been political until it has gained the attention of many politicians across the world to advocate a change in countering climate change during the late 1970s. There are issues such as climate migration and strain relationships between countries have resulted from global warming. Since then, politicians, scientists, and world leaders have come together to find feasible solutions to try mending the damages done. This essay will look at how improving relations between countries, implementation of improved policies and educating societies may be feasible solutions to face climate change.
It's no surprise to most people that the idea of global warming is a highly controversial and debated topic. When many people think about their future, usually they are only considering aspects that will affect or benefit their present lives. Few people think about what may be going on in the environment around them. Global warming, also known as the greenhouse effect, is a rise in the entire temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. In recent years many scientists have become aware of global warming and its impact on our earth. However, this is not a problem that just emerged out of thin air. Global warming has been evolving for thousands of years, but since the industrial revolution its effects has exponentially increased due to human activity. Addressing global warming is something that has been put off for many years, however many people find that it is affecting the earth drastically and many have taken some precautions to deal with it.
Temperatures are rising, storms are crashing down in our homes, and illnesses are affecting everyone all around us. Imagine these threatening matters approaching our life in the nearby future. The causes of these matters are due to global warming. Global warming occurs through the continuing increase in temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere due to the trigger of high levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Global warming is strongly associated with the greenhouse effect and the gases. Other examples include the effects of what global warming does, which vary. A few common issues are floods and droughts caused by an increase in temperature. Global warming remains slowly damaging our planet in ways that can be potentially fatal to all living organisms in it.
Global warming refers to the high rate of increase in the global average surface temperature in recent years (National Aeronautics and Space Administration [NASA], 2017). Since the late 19th century, the global average surface temperature has increased by about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit, and most of the warming occurred within the last 35 years (NASA, 2017). These rising temperatures are a result of the “greenhouse effect,” which is described as follows:
Temperatures are rising and we need to help. Global Warming is a problem that is affecting our globe dramatically and is often thought of as a joke to skeptical people. Global warming was first discovered about 60 years ago and has become a very heated topic in modern society for environmentalist. Global warming has many causing factors, but a main one is the production of gases such as carbon dioxide from cars and factories. Global warming is melting ice caps, causing temperatures to rise, and causing droughts and floods.
Global warming and climate change is something that is going to do great harm to the world, unless we all step up and do something about it. So far, the overall worldwide temperature has increased at the fastest rate ever in recorded history. At this rate, that temperature is likely to increase by up to ten degrees in the next century, according to scientists. Now, you may be wondering “why is a gradual increase in temperatures such a bad thing?”. Even though it may seem like a harmless change, increased temperatures can actually lead to some harmful events, such as rising sea levels from melting glaciers (which would lead to flooding), destruction of natural habitats (which would lead to the extinction of many plants and animals), and higher levels of air pollution (which would cause more outbreaks of diseases). Luckily, there are ways to prevent these events from taking place, and to end global warming from continuing down this path of destruction.
Global warming is a gradual process of heating of earth’s surface and whole environment including oceans, ice caps, etc. The global rise in atmospheric temperature has been clearly noticed in the recent years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the past century there is increase in the earth’s surface average temperature by around 1.4-degree Fahrenheit. It has also been estimated that global temperature may increase by another 2 to 11.5 degrees F in the next century.
