An epic hero is someone who motivates the people around them, goes above and beyond a normal person, and makes the world a better place in someway or form. They have all the qualities a society would look for. Most epic heroes are fictional, but MLK was someone who was extremely inspirational and considered a real life hero. He was well known hero for his civil rights movement and being a start to end racism. Martin Luther King, Jr embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because he is capable of deeds of great strength and courage, fights like a great warrior, and has earned a great reputation around the world.
Being capable of deeds of great strength and courage means the hero has potential, and goes above and beyond what a commoner does. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Oftenly in novels, movies, etc., the main protagonist or hero in general, can be referred to as an epic hero. An epic hero is typically one who does or did something of much significance and became well-known for it. They also might have had traveled over a great distance, or had a noble birth. An example of an epic hero is Homer’s Odysseus from The Odyssey. Odysseus’s accomplishments include fighting in the Trojan War, achieving fame, and traveling around the world. Although there are plentiful fictional and made up heroes, there are real life heroes too. One of these is Frederick Douglass, a former slave and one of the biggest leaders in the Civil Rights Movement. Douglass embodied an epic hero because he exemplified national heroism, being capable of great deeds of courage and strength, and distant travel.
An epic hero can also be a warrior of some sort who performs extraordinary tasks that most find difficult. This hero is strong, smart, and brave.
During his lifetime, Martin Luther king dared to not only dream about a better future but also fight for it. He was not afraid from having confrontations in order to promise a change. We can see his decisiveness when his arguments for stopping discrimination against black were not enough to change the situation. He decided to make a direct action in order to make society confront the issue.
For me a hero is someone who touches our lives in a personal way and does not do it for themselves.
