Professionalism and Ethics
In order to reach the peak of any work, one must be professional and supporting on a strong basis of ethical values. Moreover, engineers is more concerned by these two components as their work is concerning people’s life, regardless of their specialization. Therefore, to be fully aware of the importance of behaving professionally and to apply an ethical framework for all the projects conceived by an engineer, are the two first component of the engineering priorities’ list.
Over the years, many have tried to develop a set of guidelines to be followed in all circumstances. This task was not completely fulfilled as it seemed unreasonable since some of the rules should be problem-, professional-, and situation-dependent; a criteria that the general set of rules did not eventually meet. Therefore, several engineering entities include their own version of a code of ethics by which their members should adhere to. As an example, the chapter proposed in the book presents the “NSPE Code of Ethics” (version of 2006) and explains the rules it undertakes.
This code is divided into three main sections: The Fundamental Canons (as a reference to the main ethical and professional issues engineers face), Rules of Practice (explicating the five first points presented in the Fundamental …show more content…

Engineers are expected to assume their errors and mistakes and acknowledge their client or employer if a project is likely to fail. They are not allowed to accept any outer employment that might affect their former position and performance, and are only allowed to work for more than one agent when all the parties involved are acknowledged and express their explicit consent or approval.
