There have been many conflicts and wars fought over communism and capitalism. One of the longest and intense conflicts was the Cold War. “The Cold War was a nearly 50-year long period of tense relations between the United States and the Communist-ruled Soviet Union. The Cold War began almost immediately after World War II and ended with the 1991 dismantling of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” (Turner, 2001-2014 p.1). The Soviets fought to expand communism and destroy capitalism, but in the end capitalism was one of the reasons the Soviet Union dissolved.
How communism occurred in the Soviet Union
Communism was originally founded by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. They fought to end the capitalist system as they felt it used and abused it workers. In the communist society everyone would give depending on their capability and would receive depending on their demand. All private property would be dissolved and the needs for society would be put above personal needs.
After the First World War the Soviet Union was in shambles. The Russian people were starving and millions had died or been killed. When Lenin introduced his slogan of “Peace, land and bread” (Perry, 2012 p. 739) the Russian community was ready for a change and went along with Lenin’s plan. They did not predict that a dictatorship would be put in its place.
