The Controversial Issue Of Abortion

The issue of Abortions has been a controversy for years now. There are two main groups for this problem, Pro-Life, and Pro-Choice. Pro-Life supports the human rights of life should be embraced, by religion and ethics. Pro-choice is when someone wants to make this choice without no remorse of human life, but because someone wants no part of it raising one.

One of the most controversy issues that have had many Americans debating over the years is abortion. But why so much controversy? Well to start with we have to understand what abortion is. According to the Oxford dictionary, abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are also 2 types of abortions. The first one is Therapeutic abortion, which the baby is aborted for the safety of the mother, and elective abortion, in which the abortion is performed due to a choice that the mother has made for an unborn child. In other words, abortion is the end or the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus by natural causes or by clinical methods before it is able to survive independently.

Abortion denies the embryo the right to life as a safeguarded in the US Constitution.By aborting these unborn infants, they are not allowing themselves to meet these new identities and unique personalities that one day they will become. These unborn infants are our new future, they are presidents, doctors, firefighters, soldiers who could be saving peoples lives, and the wellbeing of our country, but if we don’t save theirs, how are we setting the example to our society that killing is wrong, when abortion is still legal? Now a days our society faces several types of issues Abortion is one of the complicated issue for both ways health and society that’s why abortion become a very controversial issue that’s become debatable in politics. In addition, these researches will describe the different issues of abortion, such as, legal laws on abortion, restriction of abortions, rate of abortion and consequences of the abortion.

All lives matter even the ones that are waiting to begin. Abortion is “the intentional termination of a pregnancy in the early stages”. Many people have different views on abortion. some believe that the mother can choose, and others believe that it is not any person’s choice about the life of the child. For example pro-choice is to be willing to let the mother’s decide what they want to do about the child that is growing inside them because it is their body. On the other hand pro-life is to be against letting mothers take the lives of their unborn children. Abortion has many effects on the human body, because it is not a natural sequence taking place within the mothers body. There are many other options than abortion, and abortion could be eradicated in this generation if women and families are given proper support.

According to www.afterabortion.org, women who undergo an abortion would have a 2.3 higher chance of getting cervical cancer than women who did not have an abortion. In addition, women who had an abortion are linked to health issues like infertility, hemorrhage, infection, embolism, anesthesia, and undiagnosed ectopic pregnancies. Abortion can also affect the mental and social health of the women. Women after abortion can develop lowered self-esteem, greater distrust of males, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, and increased levels of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and anger. When does a fetus become a person? While pro-life advocates believe life begins at conception, pro-choice activists argue that abortions are going to happen whether it’s legal or not. Those who are pro-choice believe in abortion legalization to save lives and give women the right to have control over their own bodies. However, pro-life advocates claim that abortion is murder, by stating, “Abortion ends a pregnancy by destroying and removing the developing child. That baby’s heart has already begun to beat by the time the mother misses her period and begins to wonder if she might be pregnant (about 31 days after the mother’s last menstrual period or LMP)” (nrlc.org). Pro-life advocates are drifting away from the primary issue, which is maintaining basic human rights and are focused on social allegations as reasons for abortion.

Abortion is the most controversial issue that gives human beings the right by the constitution the privilege to pursue happiness. whereas, an abortion can be seen has putting the fetus out of misery because the fetus cannot feel pain. The debate of whether or not abortion should be legal or illegal continues to divide the nation, whereas, in the United State pro-choice contented that abortion is a woman’s right and should not be limited to laws and religious factors. They also claim that the fetus is a woman’s right legally or illegally and therefore, a fetus is not considered alive or counted in a census.

Soon the Supreme Court will hear the most controversial abortion case they have in a decade. The 2013 Texas House Bill 3994, was challenged due to indications that it may be unconstitutional and violate the “Undue Burden Clause” in the US Constitution, which states that a law cannot be restrictive or burdensome of one’s fundamental rights as a human and US citizen. With roughly half of the total 41 clinics closing after the law passed in 2013, women are now waiting longer and paying more for abortions (Goodnough, 2016). The Law, which went into effect January of this year, requires doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic and mandates that all clinics must be considered ambulatory surgical centers, meaning more equipment and higher costs (Hoffman, 2016). Those advocating for the law say they are only looking out for the safety of women. This statement stems from Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia doctor who was convicted in 2010 and charged with murder in 2013. The charges were the result of involuntary manslaughter in the case of a late-term abortion at a clinic that had not been inspected in 16 years. This new law hopes to combat such tragedies by requiring admitting privileges at local hospitals. Through the extensive process, unqualified doctors would be identified and those fit would be reviewed regularly (Hoffman, 2016). Abortion has always been a controversial topic in the United States for decades. Abortion is like taking the life of someone without their permission so it is technically “murder”. There is no such thing as an unwanted child, millions of families in the United States are always willing to adopt. On the other hand, there are circumstances where a woman can barely care and sustain herself so chances are that she will not be able to take care of her child. Or when a rape occurs, having an abortion is not as bad as when a woman has sex without protection and knows she has the chance to get pregnant.

Abortion is a controversial issue in many countries all the time and there are always two sides of abortion. Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is immoral, so they argue that it should be illegal because an unborn baby is life. However, they do not figure out that woman who is on the inevitable situation such as infection, rape, or extreme poverty would still have the abortion even though the abortion is illegal. Many women die due to unsafe abortion, which is illegal and performed by uneducated people. Therefore, the abortion should be legal to protect the life of ‘alive women’ because women’s life is equal to human’s right. I would like to provide more affirmative bases to support abortion in this paper.

Only God, the ultimate creator has the right to choose who may live and who shall die.
