Abortion has been and continues to be a controversial topic in the United States. For many years there have been disputes whether abortion should be legal or not. Some people view it as someone not taking responsibility, others see it as a choice.
The World Health Organization estimated in 2004 that unsafe abortions caused 68,000 maternal deaths worldwide each year. (AbortionsProcon.org) Women tend to have unsafe abortions when they are denied abortions or do not have access to a legal and safe abortion. Women face many complications when it comes to abortion. The death of a woman aborting increases up to four times more than having a full term pregnancy. Wade was approved. It gave women the right to a legal abortion, Roe V. Wade guaranteed privacy. That privacy meant a woman had the choice of making a decision on whether she wanted to terminate her pregnancy or not. The U.S. Supreme court declared that the right to a legal abortion was legal. The supreme court adopted a new “Undue burden” test for judging abortion regulations. This was the case Planned Parenthood V. Casey allowing access to an abortion when necessary. Planned Parenthood V. Casey required women to let their husbands know about before aborting. If a teenager was under eighteen, she was required to have a parent consent or have a judge grant permission to allow the under age abort.(Planned Parenthood V. Casey) It also was crucial for clinics to inform women on the stages of a pregnancy. Approximately one million teenagers get pregnant every year. (Biro) Thirty five percent of them choose to abort because of how young they are and they plan on attending college. There has been a total of fifty million abortions between 1973 and 2011. (Biro) Again many women have obstacles in the way that would prevent them from being able to care for a child. Every baby is a miracle and his or her life is valuable. Abortion is the killing of a human being and goes against God’s word. By the time a baby is conceived, he or she is recognized by God as demonstrated in Jeremiah 1:5 “ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.” (AbortionsProCon.org) Baby’s born or not do have rights and it is not fair for them to pay the price of the consequences of others. The fetus is a life but sometimes that life must be ended. Personhood begins after a fetus becomes viable. (AbortionProCon.org) In other words, the fetus is able to survive outside the womb or after birth, not at conception. Roe V. Wade gave women the right to a legal abortion, this prevents maternal death due to unsafe practices. In 1972, there were thirty nine maternal deaths from illegal abortions. By having the accessibility to an abortion women are less likely to have mental issues than those who are denied. (AbortionsProCon.org) Everyone has their own rights to do so
