Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in today’s world. With the evolving moral standards of society, abortion is becoming more and more justified. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy. People don’t seem to realize that abortion can ultimately have the best overall consequences. This topic should be viewed from a consequentialist view, or from the moral worth depending on the positive or negative value of the consequences. The choice of abortion doesn’t matter as much as the consequences of the choice itself. While some consider abortion murder, others believe it as saving a life. It can save a mother from an unwanted pregnancy and it can save a child from an unwanted future. A woman has the right to choose abortion if they believe it is necessary and dispose freely of their own body. I will begin by arguing that abortion can have the best overall consequence when a mother and a child’s future is uncertain. A child shouldn’t be put through a rough childhood if the mother is aware of harsh living conditions or not being able to physically, mentally or economically support a child. For instance, if a woman was raped, the mother would be unable to raise a child because of the emotional pain caused by the rape, and the child would just be a constant reminder of what happened which can lead to abuse of the child. Or let us say that the woman is in an abusive relationship with
One of the most controversy issues that have had many Americans debating over the years is abortion. But why so much controversy? Well to start with we have to understand what abortion is. According to the Oxford dictionary, abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are also 2 types of abortions. The first one is Therapeutic abortion, which the baby is aborted for the safety of the mother, and elective abortion, in which the abortion is performed due to a choice that the mother has made for an unborn child. In other words, abortion is the end or the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus by natural causes or by clinical methods before it is able to survive independently.
Every culture and society does not allow or consider abortion as a rightful act, and abortion is a name of destroying human life. Now a days our society faces several types of issues Abortion is one of the complicated issue for both ways health and society that’s why abortion become a very controversial issue that’s become debatable in politics. In addition, these researches will describe the different issues of abortion, such as, legal laws on abortion, restriction of abortions, rate of abortion and consequences of the abortion.
There is a concern among many, that it is not the woman’s decision to terminate the life of their unborn child. Fetuses are advocated for because decision making is out of their control. One of the main arguments is that the unborn child will not have the opportunity to live the life it deserves and because of that, women that go through the process of abortion will regret their decision. This is understandable, because it is a difficult option to pursue, not health-wise, but emotionally a devastation for some. Along
Even though the controversial conversation of abortion somewhat prohibits the open talk of there being other reasons that would make abortion essential and sometimes critical to the health of the mother. There are several reasons women are seeking and have sought abortions and were denied or otherwise restricted to laws and/or regulations. Rebecca Traister, senior editor of New Republic magazine, wrote in an editorial about her pregnancy and in her twenty fourth week (which in New York is the point of no return if you weren’t considering keeping the baby) she had thoughts of concern that if there were medical, fiscal or some other event that would cause more damage to not abort. This was a worry of hers, not only for herself but for other women who never had a chance, or choice, at all.
Many outsiders see the United States as a place of peace and harmony. But for those who live within it, know that it is the complete opposite. The United States has numerous amounts of worldwide problems from the economy to obesity to even pollution. Although some are more important than others doesn’t mean the small issues should go unnoticed. Abortion, the termination of pregnancy is considered a problem by many but also reflected as nonfactor to others opinion. In my opinion, I believe abortion is a growing problem and the people of the United States fail to apprehend it. The actual termination of the pregnancy could leave the mother suffering from a serious illness or even be fatal.
With the subject of abortion, it seems that no consensus will ever be reached. Those who argue in favor of choice will never see from the perspective of the pro-lifers and vice versa. The major difference is that those who are pro-choice have never been responsible for the deaths of the opposition. Before the Roe v. Wade case made abortion legal in this country, abortions were unlawful in the United States. Anyone who needed or wanted an abortion for any reason, physical or emotional, would have to go to back alley abortionists who would be working with unsafe tools and in unsterile conditions which would be a breeding ground for bacteria and germs. Many women died during these procedures, or from the later infections related to the abortions. Others were left permanently. Decades after the passing of this important piece of legislation, people still debate whether or not abortion should be legal and under what conditions, if any.
The topic of abortion is a highly controversial topic that falls between two sides, pro-life and pro-choice, and the issues that concern abortion. Some of these issues would include the government, religious belief, medical practices, and social expectations are just a few of the issues that are highly controversial between both sides on the argument of abortion. However, by understanding the history of abortion, and the difference between pro-life and pro-choice will aid in understanding both sides to the controversial views over abortion.
Abortion continues to be one of the most controversial debates in the United States today and takes center stage in American politics. The opposing sides hold sincere emotional, religious, spiritual, and marital views regarding abortion and the legalization of it throughout our country. As nearly half of all pregnancies in the United States are unplanned, women are quite often left with uncertainty and pressure when faced with the decision to take on this ultimate responsibility. Throughout the endless controversy and relentless conflict, the psychological effects after abortion for women are often overlooked and not tended to as efficiently as they should be. Women experience distress, depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, and countless
Abortion is an important yet controversial topic of discussion in the US today. In Oklahoma, 8% of all pregnancies were aborted, and 76% were live births. Nationally, 18% of 6 million pregnant women chose to get abortions in 2011. Oklahoma accounts for 0.6% of abortions in the United States (“State Facts”). While there are many different thoughts on this issue, most people's opinions fall into two categories, pro-life and pro-choice.
The debate over abortion has divided Americans into polarized sides since the Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision in Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973, where the Court deemed abortion a fundamental right under the United States Constitution. The lawsuit began when Norma McCorvey became pregnant with her third child in 1969 and could not get a legal abortion in Texas. With her attorneys, they filed a lawsuit. Roe v. Wade reached Supreme Court appeal in 1970 (Rovner). At this time, there were a few related court cases whose decisions directly affected McCorvey’s case. Griswold v. Connecticut decided that there is a right to privacy in the Constitution. Younger v. Harris decided that federal courts could not hear civil right cases by a person currently being prosecuted for a matter arising from that claim. In U.S. v. Vuitch, the court ruled to criminalize abortion with the exception if the mother’s life was endangered and it also labeled abortion as an emergency medical procedure (Masci). These cases laid out a foundation for McCorvey’s attorneys as the rulings were then applied to her case, benefitting their arguments tremendously.
As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places that are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just looking at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many controversial issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper.
Abortion has always been a controversial topic in the United States for decades. Abortion is like taking the life of someone without their permission so it is technically “murder”. There is no such thing as an unwanted child, millions of families in the United States are always willing to adopt. On the other hand, there are circumstances where a woman can barely care and sustain herself so chances are that she will not be able to take care of her child. Or when a rape occurs, having an abortion is not as bad as when a woman has sex without protection and knows she has the chance to get pregnant.
The debate on abortion is an ongoing battle of pro-choicers against pro-lifers. Texas being known to a conservative state, recently signed into law a three point abortion plan to try to reduce the amount of texans having abortions.
In our society, there are many ethical dilemmas that we are faced with that are virtually impossible to solve. One of the most difficult and controversial issues that we are faced with is abortion. There are many strong arguments both for and against the right to have an abortion which are so complicated that it becomes impossible to resolve. The complexity of this issue lies in the different aspects of the argument. The essence of a person, rights, and who is entitled to these rights, are a few of the many aspects which are very difficult to define. There are also issues of what circumstances would justify abortion. Because the issue of abortion is virtually impossible to solve, all one can hope
Abortion is a controversial issue in many countries all the time and there are always two sides of abortion. Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is immoral, so they argue that it should be illegal because an unborn baby is life. However, they do not figure out that woman who is on the inevitable situation such as infection, rape, or extreme poverty would still have the abortion even though the abortion is illegal. Many women die due to unsafe abortion, which is illegal and performed by uneducated people. Therefore, the abortion should be legal to protect the life of ‘alive women’ because women’s life is equal to human’s right. I would like to provide more affirmative bases to support abortion in this paper.
