When people talk about healthy shopping, they seem to miss the non-eatables section. This section includes the things that people use every day, but don’t think about their side effects. Some of these products can be just as damaging to your health as their food counterparts. These toxins can be absorbed by your skin and through breathing them in, seeping into your blood stream and being stored in your fat tissues. This can lead to cancer, changing DNA, causing infertility, neurotoxicity, or an array of other medical problems. This change will take time—there lies the danger. You don’t even know about it until it’s too late.

The cosmetics industry is a multibillion-dollar industry. What many people don’t know is that they use very toxic chemicals which were shown in animal studies to be linked to birth defects, cancer, and skin conditions. These chemicals are found in things that look harmless, like shampoos, conditioners, antiperspirants, cosmetics, and especially nail polishes.

A report published by the Environmental Working Group stated that they found some disturbing evidence that showed a very toxic chemical was found in every single person who was tested. This chemical is called dibutyl phthalate, or DBP. The CDC found in their research that the absolute highest levels were in women of reproductive age.
