During his trial, the Yankee makes a false claim that the man he assaulted struck him first, and that he was only trying to defend himself. When he returned to his quarters, he found his master's body dead on the floor. He soon found out that the king had escaped, and so his master began beating the other slaves and they revolted against him. All the slaves were sentenced to death, and in an effort to save himself and the king, the Yankee contacted Clarence. Clarence then sent a rescue team to London. Chapter 38 Just as the Yankee and the king are to be hanged, Launcelot and his knights arrive on bicycles and rescue them. Chapter 39 The Yankee is to fight in the arena against Sir Sagramor. The Yankee sends out an order to all remaining citizens of Camelot, and travels to the cave fortress. There is a week of waiting, in which time the Yankee turns his diary into a narrative and writes letters to Sandy. The boys chosen to fight begin doubting themselves, claiming that they cannot fight their own people. The Yankee assures them that the knights will die and the commoners will abandon them. When the attack finally happens, it turns out the Yankee was correct. The knights attack first and many of them are blown to pieces by mines, and the rest are killed by an electric fence, the gatling guns, or they drown. Chapter 44 Clarence finishes the diary for the Yankee, and tells of the act of kindness performed by himself, the Yankee, and the fifty-two boys. They go out and make attempts to heal the wounded, but the Yankee is stabbed. They treat his wound, and Merlin appears disguised as a woman who offers to cook. As the corpses begin to rot, Clarence and the others get sick. Clarence awakens around midnight to discover Merlin casting spells over the Yankee. The wizard claims that this spell will put the Yankee to sleep for thirteen centuries, and is then killed by an electric fence.
