Technology is a portion of everyday life. It affects how business is conducted, teaching, learning, and receiving information. If you were to examine the effects of technology on teaching and learning and acquire an understanding of why technology should be a part of every classroom curriculum, the conclusion would be that technology is a great benefit to the classroom. Due to the immerse impact and changes technology had on society, education was bound to change. According to the report submitted to the New York state Education Department,it states “in an era when the world has become increasingly dependent upon technical solutions to problems, educators are challenged to provide individuals with technological literacy as part of the fundamental education” (Dettelis). As a result of technological impact on the society the education system was forced to incorporate and enforce the use of technology in schools. Even though technology was initially incorporated in school s to aid students in academic success, its negative effects on learning are surpassing its benefits. Learning is being compromised as a result of numerous flaws the role of technology has on education, not only are there disparities of technology within schools but the level of technology literacy is insufficient. It is essential for the department of Education to create equality within education, as well as to aid in improving technological literacy among educators.

We are living in a country that is called a technologically civilized society. The use of the Internet has not changed the way that we think but it is making unique contributions in classrooms by providing us with immediate and convenient access to an extraordinary amount of ideas and information. “In the world that we currently live in, technology is a very vital factor”. Today most people are more familiar with the gadget they carry in their backpack or even in their pocket; which is technically advanced. Every other day a new software device is being brought into the marketplace that helps to improve our knowledge in and out of school. in one way, the internet provides a much easier opportunity in education for student everywhere with access to all kinds of books available at any time. However, it is important to note that despite the fact that technology plays a big role in making our school lives much easier, it is not the only role it has. The internet seems to be impairing our ability to focus and to think deeply on any subject. The more technology continues to grow, the more improvement it provides in education level for certain students while for others it has a very different effect in the way we read and take in information. Furthermore, I will be discussing both pros and cons of the way technology is used in and out of our schools today.

Incorporation of technology into everyday lives nudged society into a position where our world is focused on electronics. The educational system values the benefits of this convenient improvement, but some studies deny that fact. Societal benefits seem to outweigh the negative effects of technology; despite what is presented in media, these benefits could also hurt the child through a withdrawal of socialization and individual thought. Many scientists support their viewpoint through observations, yet remain biased on the conclusions they release to the public. This obtrusive inspection on the impact of technology changes the judgement that each person has. Although people who read these studies have a strong opinion, they do not particularly change their beliefs on the topic. Interpretation of the effects of technology on education remains diversified across the country, and those who use it stand firmly with their opinion.

Nearly 20 years ago when the World Wide Web was released, many people in society had no idea what type of advances were in store for the technological world. Endless opportunities became available worldwide in every avenue of approach, one of those being education. Education has blossomed in the light of technology and will only continue to do so for many generations to come. Although it can be argued that technology is negatively effecting the education system, more innovative ways of learning are becoming available and society has no choice but to conform to these advances.

Today we have the world of Google and over hundreds of cellphones, iTouchs, e-books and millions of websites at our disposal (Loertscher 2). These types of tools bring success to wide range of learners who face physical, development al, language or personal problems (Loertscher 3). Even though this tools can help different students with different types of learning styles and problems. Linking into Google and overflowing learners with information does not make products better or allows students to learn more. Technology has no real value if it is used for entertainment value or to use up time (Loertscher 3).

Technology is evolving and is becoming a central need in everyone’s life. It is even being integrated into the education system, changing the way one learns and teaches. An increased reliance on technology as a means to enhance knowledge has decreased the ability to acquire thorough knowledge and develop the power to reason or judge. This is evident in the way technology has made it easier for students to cheat, in how the internet provides wrong learning opportunities and in the way students respond to learning while being engaged with technology.

Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.

A class full of elementary students come to school in the morning and visit the classroom website on school issued iPads to check the agenda of the day, and then participate in an online discussion about current events for morning work. Two high school students use their personal devices in a high school algebra class to check homework answers posted on the instructor’s website. Listing examples of the different uses of technology in the classroom could be an endless discussion which goes to prove that the use of technology is no longer an optional activity in an educational setting. Unfortunately, technology in the classroom can also put learners in dangerous situations if they give out personal information online or misunderstand the importance of staying on monitored websites. Even so, learners in the 21st Century classroom are accustomed to technology in every part of their lives and therefore it has become necessary for teachers to change instruction to meet the needs of their students and create a successful learning environments. The use of the technology in the classroom can become a safety issue for learners if they are not exposed to powers and the dangers that the online world can hold. In order to keep children safe, educators must empower their students to safely navigate the digital world.

Absolutely, technology should be reevaluated in effectiveness in literacy development due to the fact it provides more opportunities then barriers. When evaluating ideas, we should look at the pros and the cons; and if the pros outweighs the cons the ideas should be accepted as the influential. Technology has made literacy development more adaptable, led to the development of new literacy skills such as critical thinking and research skills, while providing personal instruction.

Evolution of technology is occurring fast. As it evolves, society must learn how to advance with technology. The exponential growth of technology makes things easier and today is an important aspect of our lives. From the tiny computers in our pocket referred to as smartphones to the wireless headphones, technology is making a brighter future in an accessible way. One way technology is making a huge impact is in education. In education, technology has the power to transform how people learn but there are some negative impacts of technology on education as well.
