Antifreeze
There are hazards in and around every automotive shop across the world. Among these hazards are the chemicals used in or on the vehicles themselves. With proper training and information, the handler of these chemicals will be able to protect him/herself from experiencing the dangerous potential of these chemicals. Along with a lot of overseen hazardous chemicals is a chemical found in every liquid cooled engine, antifreeze.
Over the years our engines inside of our automobiles have grown bigger and more complex then they have been in the past. The older technique of the air cooled system did not protect the engine from extreme temperatures, there for we have created the liquid cooling system. The problem we faced

One way to handle this, so that to avoid such a tragedy is to let the vehicle cool before opening the cooling system. The use of personal protection equipment like a rubber apron, gloves, and a face shield will control getting the hot fluid on your body.
Another less severe effect of contact with antifreeze is a mild skin and eye irritation. The best way to resolve this problem is to avoid all contact with the skin. Proper handling of antifreeze will help cut back the risk of this exposure tremendously. The simple use of a funnel will prevent spilling the chemical while adding it to a vehicle. The use of latex or rubber gloves will stop the possibility of it contact the skin on your hands. Goggles will stop any reaching your eyes. If needed in a certain procedure were your body could be in contact, the use of a rubber apron and a face shield will stop it as well.
The most serious downfall of antifreeze is if it is ingested. When ingested the antifreeze turns into another dangerous chemical known as oxalic acid. This acid damages the victims kidney's causing them to fail. It also causes renal, cardiovascular failure, and brain damage and in most cases results in death due to these effects. This is not a common problem for most adults but more for children and animals. Ethylene glycol in the antifreeze gives it a sweet
Overalls- This stops flying swarf and coolant reaching your skin and causing damage or harm.
Hand protection; wearing gloves, if you ever handle chemical it will protect your hands if it spills
Throughout my experiment my control acted normally, the daphnia had average movement and calm manner. On a scale from 1 to 5 I ranked the control group as a 3 for normal movement and health. When I introduced car antifreeze to my pure water daphnia there was an immediate change in the color of the daphnia, their bodies turned from a white opaque color to a light pink (the same color as the antifreeze). Not only did the physical appearance change but their behavior became more aggressive and panicked. As time passed the daphnia moved in a circular motion and the chemical caused one of their antennas to cripple. The antifreeze surprisingly resulted in no deaths so I gave the effect of antifreeze to daphnia a 2 (table 2 and 2B). When exposed
In accordance with the OSHA’s PPE standards (Personal Protective equipment), an assessment of a motor vehicle garage was performed to identify if there were hazards present that would affect the employees. Based on the assessment, applicable PPE’s were selected for the affected employees. The following are the guidelines that were used for the process.
Now reflecting upon the use of antipyretic treatments within the healthcare setting it could be seen as alarming to realise quite how often this treatment is used unnecessarily. Conducting this assignment has allowed an increased understanding of the benefit of maintaining a high temperature and has identified that in recent years we may have unknowingly been causing more harm by trying to reduce temperature.
Caution – Hydrochloric acid is corrosive to eyes, skin and clothes. Wearing a lab apron, rubber gloves, goggles, and a face shield is essential. Rinse any spills on skin or clothing with plenty of cold water. Clean up spills immediately – ask your instructor for help.
When nitrous oxide is let off into the atmosphere, it attacks the ozone layer, which protects us from the sun’s UV rays. The UV rays then go through the holes in the ozone and if the rays touch people’s skin, it will cause skin
Automotive body repairers hold an advanced degree of harms and sicknesses than the national standard. These employees may experience minor injuries, such as incisions burns, and rasp skin. These workers are unprotected to an assortment of dangers each day, from dealings with unsafe chemicals to the probability of surgically remove members or digits with machine-driven tools
This means that the coolant needs to get from the radiator, through the engine and back again without running into any obstacles. If there is a problem in your cooling system, your engine can overheat and cause major engine damage. We carry belts, pulleys, cooling fans, radiator caps and water pumps.
Risk Prevention for Methanol: Due to its flammability, keep away from flames. Also, wear safety glasses, gloves and aprons to remove factors of irritation in the skin and eyes. If vapour is created from the substance, cover face and turn ventilation on. Also do not consume.

Another hazard present in this investigation is the hot water used in the water bath. With temperatures reaching 60°C, contact with the skin may cause scalding. A preventative measure is to handle equipment with care. If contact with the hot water were to occur, the area should be run under cold water for 10 minutes to prevent scarring.
Otherwise known as ice treatment, is the use of cold to the body tissues especially the sweat glands in hyperhidrosis. The application is coordinated to lessen skin temperature, more often than not to around 10 degrees. It is contraindicated in patients with heart maladies, frosty affectability (thyroid issue) and vasospastic disease. 25,
