In short, the death penalty has been around for millions of years to punish those whom committed a crime or broke the rules that the king or the government have set. The methods have changed drastically beginning from the most well-known crucifixion to the two most humane methods currently which are the lethal injection or lethal gas. There are currently only five methods of executions used in the United States. Those five methods are: hanging, firing squad, electrocution, lethal gas, lethal injection. Throughout history, there have been changes over the years on the methods of capital punishment that are used in the United States.
In the days of the Roman Empire dating back to the B.C era, punishment by death was given to those that broke the rules. For example, punishment was given to those whom stole a chicken or perhaps some food and they paid the with their life. The most well-known death by execution is the one in the bible, which talks about the crucifixion of Jesus Crist. He was punished by the Romans because he was believed to be the Jewish Messiah and that angered the Romans, who sought that he should be crucified. The Lord Jesus Crist was crucified along with two other men that were criminals. Many years later, capital punishment carried over to Europe and then Europe taught those in the new world about executing those whom have committed a crime.
