Relationships are hard to maintain, are they not? The couple will run into problems, that they need to fix. Romance stories make it look easy, like way easy. They make it look like they see each other and they’re gonna be together forever. The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet two people from rivaling houses fall in love at first sight causing term oil for the whole town. Romeo and Juliet cause their own problem that lead to their deaths. The strongest point that led to the demise of Romeo and Juliet's is the fact that juliet fakes her death. There are easier things to do than that idea. Juliet thought of most of the things that could and did go wrong with the friar's plan in her soliloquy right before she was gonna drink the potion. “What if it be a poison, which the friar/Subtly hath minister'd to have me dead,” [4.3.24-25] With this in mind, Juliet has made her bed, so to speak, so she can lie in it. She is kind of foreshadowing what is going to happen later, but the root of it is that she finding all the flaws in the Friar's plan. She still goes with it, cause she believes she will end up with Romeo.
Next, Romeo is only looking on the outside of Juliet and thinking and loving with his eyes. He doesn’t see who she is only what she is, that being a gorgeous girl. The Friar addresses this when

Those kind of marriages never work. The Friar has just as much fault as they do.But that's not my point, Romeo suggested it and Juliet just went right along with it. A day later they are having coitus, and as there were being married the Friar said. “These violent delights have violent ends/And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,/Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey...Therefore love moderately; long love doth so;/Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.” [2.6,9-15] He told Romeo not to move fast, and what does he do. Point is that they both moved way too fast for a normal relationship to
The Friar helps put the feud at blame, because after meeting only a day ago the two lovers decide to get married. Romeo and Juliet go to the Friar to beg him to marry them. The Friar knows that it is a bad idea, but he agrees to marry them anyone. “For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.”(II, iii, 91-92). Friar Lawrence decided to allow the eager couple to get married knowing the consequences that would be likely to occur. The Friar says that marrying the couple might change the minds of the two households to love instead of hatred.
The ideology that everything in the universe has a specific place and rank in order of their hierarchy importance created by God is known as the concept of The Great Chain of Being. The order of this concept consisted levels according to highest rank to the lowest accordingly: God, angels, humanity, animals, vegetation life, leading all the way down to crud. Within each category, more specific classification existed, placing these subcategories in a specific order. This concept was believed to be a way to keep the universe in order. As this was believed during Elizabethan times, William Shakespeare also believed in the Great Chain of Being, as many of his plays are prominently based on this concept. Some of his plays include characters that accept their place on the Chain, but others are not so complacent. By examining three different characters from Shakespeare’s tragedies, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and The Tragedy of King Lear, it is obvious to readers who is content with their place on the Chain and which characters have a difficult time accepting their place. Romeo and Juliet do not obey their parents’ orders, therefore suffer harsh consequences towards the end of the play. Macbeth is another Shakespearean character that violates the Chain, due to the committing of several murders, in order to gain the throne. In stark contrast, Cordelia, is content with her place on the Chain as she does not want anything greater in life, unlike her
In William Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet”, Shakespeare presents characters in difficult situations in Romeo and Juliet through various language techniques and structure. Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers. Both Romeo and Juliet were from feuding families that would not approve of their marriage. In the play they are presented with many difficult circumstances. The play was set in the Elizabethan era; there was a significant change in religion, family and politics. Attitudes and key scenes highlight the theme of love in difficult circumstances and prepare the audience for Romeo and Juliet’s suicides at the end of the play. In this essay I will be exploring the ways Shakespeare presents characters in difficult situations.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, we learn of the many hardships and highs Romeo and Juliet go through over the course of the story. The play Romeo and Juliet is based off two star-crossed lovers who are separated from each other due to a feud between their two families. Their love is so strong that at the end of the story Romeo and Juliet both end up committing suicide because they can’t live without each other. Whether it is problems with love, or them complimenting each other on how they feel about the other person, Shakespeare uses many literary devices to make the reader dig deeper into the context to find the meaning behind the sentence. Some of the literary devices are; similes, metaphors, and personification.
Juliet then awakens and finds Romeo dead then kills herself. In the end there is blood on someone’s hands and there are many characters you could place the blame to. I believe the Capulets and the Montagues are the main reason for the death of Romeo and Juliet. If there were no conflict between the two’s families there would have been no reason to be secretive about their love. The families put so much dirt on the other families name the kids knew their love would not be acceptable. At the age both they were at a family support system is crucial. With Juliet being only 13 she was still learning about everything there was to know about life and so it’s understandable why she felt she needed to keep her love
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” is the question we hear so many times as children. Yet, growing up does not necessarily mean becoming an adult. Rather, growing up is the change within one’s self that is illustrated by a heightened awareness, the ability to think reasonably, and the proficiency to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. In adolescence, we turn to the adults in our lives to aid us in understanding our choices as we become increasingly responsible for our own actions. During this time in our lives, adults with worldly experience direct us down the path of good judgment in order that we may learn how to make good decisions. They near essential to us, even though not everyone has this advantage. William Shakespeare’s famous and celebrated tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, depicts several instances in which the title characters, though still naïve, behave more responsibly and maturely than the misguided adult figures in their lives–those of the Houses of Capulet and Montague, especially Juliet’s parents, and the culpable Friar Laurence.
Romeo and Juliet written by playwright, William Shakespeare, is widely renowned for being the greatest love story of all. However, after reading, it is hard for anyone to understand how the tragic story of two ‘…star-crossed lovers…’ – Chorus (1.1.6) who take their lives, can be seen as ‘beautiful’ or ‘inspiring’. This also leads to other questions being raised such as, who is most to blame for the untimely death of Romeo and Juliet? Now, many will argue that those who had the most contact with the lovers, in the time leading up to the affliction are to be held responsible i.e. Friar Laurence or their families. Others may just simply believe that they brought it upon themselves. The purpose of this essay is to explore and analyse the role
“I do protest I never injured thee But love thee better than thou canst devise Till thou shalt know the reason of my love. And so, good Capulet, which name I tender As dearly as my own, be satisfied.” (Act 5 Scene 1) Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt because he's just married to Juliet, Tybalt's cousin. According to Tybalt, Romeo has dishonoured himself by refusing to fight.
What if The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, wasn't a tragedy. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, one of Shakespeare's classic plays and a timeless piece. As popular as it is for it's ending, we can't help but wonder if suicide was the answer to stop the family feud. I believe that this play wouldn't have been a tragedy if it wasn't for two lords, Tybalt, and Friar Luarence.
The tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet are not the fault of just one person; it is the fault of many. In fact, the blame could be placed on each character – if anyone acted in a different way, there could have been a different ending. Some had a greater impact on their deaths than others however, namely the families and the feud, the Friar Lawrence, Mercutio, Balthasar and Romeo & Juliet themselves. Some may argue for other characters, but the actions of these five ultimately had a more prominent effect on their suicide. One of the factors most to blame is the families’ feud and the restrictions it placed upon the young lovers.
I fully agree with this quote from W.H. Auden. In my opinion, everyone directly or indirectly contributes to the unfortunate outcome of the play. The ancient feud between the Capulets and Montagues has a profound effect on the lovers from the beginning of their connection. When Romeo and Juliet discover that they are from opposite families, they already know that there will be problems. The two families' inability to come together and settle their differences puts a burden on both Romeo and Juliet, and this burden impairs their decision-making to the point that they commit suicide. Auden effectively describes the situation occurring when he says that it is a “tragedy of a city.” Grief is felt throughout the city due to the losses of life, and the bitter feud of the two families ends only after the heartfelt deaths.
I think he had good intentions as this quote proves; “for this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your households rancourto pure love.” This indicates that the Friar agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, because he believes that it will bring the enemies together in peace. It shows that he may see himself as a peacemaker. He reaches his decision very quickly once he realises this situation, however he tells Romeo to take things slowly when he says: “wisely and slowly: they stumble that run fast.” He goes against his own advice as firstly he changes his decision very quickly and secondly he marries the two lovers in less than 24 hours.
Betrayal is often showcased openly in all types of media as it creates irony, suspense, and drama. In the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, he shows many different types of disloyalties. Shakespeare uses the idea of betrayal in a negative way, which creates a lot if irony and drama in the play. Juliet is betrayed the most in the play, first by both her parents, the Nurse fails in supporting Juliet and her decision of not wanting to marry Paris, and lastly, the Friar does not understand Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other.
I believe that there is nothing you can do to prevent your death, many people could argue that Romeo and Juliet could have done many things differently to prevent their deaths. Here are a few things many people believe they could have done to prolong their lives: Romeo did not have to kill Tybalt, Romeo could have stayed in Mantua and waited on the priest, and a very good idea would have been that they could have aloaked and ran away.
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic tale of two star-crossed lovers in Verona. Their tragic love story is known across the world, but their unfortunate end was affected by multiple outside forces and not of their own fault. These outer influences include the Montague Capulet feud, Paris decides to marry Juliet, and Friar John being quarantined.
