Leadership And Love: The Difference Between Authority And Work

Leadership and love, a foreign concept to some who are leadership positions, however, there is a new paradigm that teaches us the difference between authority and power. One will motivate people to work with you; the other directs people to work for you.
Principles
First awakening came as I read, "Whenever two or more people are gathered together for a purpose there is an opportunity for leadership." (Hunter, 1998) (p.28) Automatically linked my thoughts to the scripture that reads, for where two or three gathers in my name Mat 18:20, (NIV). My point being, if God is love, then love and leadership should be on target for the place of work.
Advantageous to my work environment, where we have three Medical Support staff, myself being the longest employed at this office. Because of this, I have more situational knowledge. Henceforth, when I read Hunter 's words that leadership is a skill unless properly taught and one cannot acquire the ability to lead, it became a reality check for how I have been behaving towards others. Before reading (Hunter, 1998) and (McNeal, 2011), I found myself losing patients with one of the new employees, who 's learning process is much slower than I am used to. I found myself falling into a power situation and finding myself reacted in frustration when I had to repeat instructions which should have been written down.
