1.Discipline- Time Outs 2. Have Ms. Cortes create house rules and consequences Concern All three boys bite, curse, hit and kick Ms. Cortes and each other when they get angry. Communication Ms. Cortes yells at the boys for any reason. The boys yell back at her and then the boys will have a tantrum. On the other hand, they boys all want her attention and they fight over it. She is having difficulties giving each child the attention they require. Today was my first meeting with Ms. Cortes and her three sons, Nicholas (4), Messiah (2) and Jordan (1). I chose to observe them at first. I needed to get an idea of how she interacted with the children. I just made suggestions throughout the day. I arrived at Ms. Cortes s house at 8 a.m. the children were still asleep. So, I asked Ms. Cortes about her cleaning and discipline methods. The apartment was …show more content…
when the children woke up. They followed Ms. Cortes around crying for her attention. They had just gotten up, but they were already jumping around and fighting with each other. At about 9:15 Ms. Cortes started preparing breakfast for the boys she gave them French Toast cereal. She likes to sit the boys on the floor on top of a sheet. The table is too high for them to eat at it. Jordan wanted Ms. Cortes to help him eat. When Messiah saw this he wanted her to feed him too. When she would not Messiah got angry and did not want to eat breakfast. He wanted to get up and play and Ms. Cortes really wanted him to eat breakfast. He began to waste his cereal on the floor. Ms. Cortes told him to sit at the table. He still would not eat and waste the cereal on the table. I told Ms. Cortes to be firm and say no sit and eat your breakfast. He said no I do not want to eat. I told Ms. Cortes it is okay that he does not want to eat, but he should sit at the able until and everyone has finished breakfast. She did as I said and in less than two minutes he asked for his breakfast back he ate everything in his
The beauty and culture of the Dominican Republic has changed and evolved drastically through out the years. Unfortunately, the Dominican Republic also known as the DR or Republica Domicana to its natives, was ruled by an oppressive dictator from 1930 until 1961. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina was his name and manipulation was his game. He ruled by fear and held a tight grip on the civilians of the Dominican Republic. Trujillo ingrained in their homes, schools, and churches that there is only God and Trujillo. Anyone who tried to speak out would be dealt with violently. Trujillo did not stop one driven young lady of the Mirabal family, whose name is Minerva. Minerva Mirabal is the boldest sister out of
Born as Ray Mendoza on July 2, 1951, was born of Puerto Rican and Venezuelan descent. She was given the name Sylvia Rivera by a local community of drag queens and spent her career fighting for solidarity between transgender people, queer people of color, homeless people, and sex workers. Sylvia Rivera was one of the “street queens” living in New York, and is known as one of the most famous street youth who fought back during the police raid at Stonewall. Modern day, Rivera has come to personify the aspirations and flaws of the modern gay liberation movement.
Why do many immigrants make the long and usually costly move to America? Is it the largely idolized notion that Americans are wealthier with better opportunities? Moreover, is the price some pay worth the risk? In Willa Cather’s My Ántonia, Ántonia faces struggles as a young child, including language barriers, poverty, harsh living conditions, and her beloved father’s death. However, as Ántonia grows into a woman, she must face struggles of a social nature, such as the division of social and economic classes, as well as social opprobrium. While immigration to America may open many doors for immigrants, it is equally fraught with obstacles. Likewise, Ántonia must face many adversities after her emigration from Bohemia to Nebraska, which
Govener Velaquez has asked me to lead the expedition to mexico. I will accept his offer and return with great riches.
Hernan (also Hernando or Fernando) Cortes was born in Medellin, Estramadura, in Spain in 1485 to a family of minor nobility.
The Lady of Guadalupe is a huge part of the Mexican tradition, and how many people look up to her in a very godly way. She is important, because she reminds people of their appreciation for their own cultures, along with the other cultures that are all over the world. The Lady of Guadalupe is someone that is the exact replica of the Virgin Mary. But, the only difference is, is that the Virgin Mary is a saint that is represented in the European culture, and the Lady of Guadalupe in the Aztec and Native culture of Mexico. The lady of Guadalupe is a positive influence on different religions, especially Christianity.
The author of Mexican Lives, Judith Adler Hellman, grapples with the United States’ economic relationship with their neighbors to the south, Mexico. It also considers, through many interviews, the affairs of one nation. It is a work held to high esteem by many critics, who view this work as an essential part in truly understanding and capturing Mexico’s history. In Mexican Lives, Hellman presents us with a cast from all walks of life. This enables a reader to get more than one perspective, which tends to be bias. It also gives a more inclusive view of the nation of Mexico as a whole. Dealing with rebel activity, free trade, assassinations and their transition into the modern age, it justly
The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez by John Rechy delves into the life of Amalia Gomez; a Mexican-American woman living in a poor rural area of Hollywood. The structure of her family is falling apart due to conflict between the characters and Amalia’s lack of involvement in their lives. Her youngest son Juan is a male prostitute known as a “maricÓn”, her daughter Gloria is falling dangerously close to following in Amalia’s footsteps, and her oldest son Manny although well intentioned starts to clone his father’s criminal tendencies even though he has no recollections of his father. Amalia’s selective perspective also leads to conflict within herself since she is content not knowing the truth as long as the false reality fits her ideal
On Sundays after Mass- every single Sunday, Latinos gathered on parks to play soccer and have carne asada something that is very traditional in Mexican families my family could be an example of that. These parks were built with the money taken from the Japanese which speaking of now a day’s use these complexes too and this is where the two cultures met.
Cortes showed up to the Aztec’s land planning on conquering it to be part of Spain. He did not want to negotiate with the Aztecs, he just wanted their land, with or without them. The Aztecs thought that he was a God and gave him extreme amounts of gold when he first arrived, but that did not satisfy Cortes. Cortes held a meeting with the leader of the Aztecs, Montezuma, and captured him, causing the Aztecs to fight the Spanish to get their leader back. Once the Spanish started to make a move to defeat the Aztecs, they realized that they were all dead or extremely ill. This was because the Aztecs were not immune to the Spanish diseases that came into their land, spreading over their people. Cortes eventually got the Aztec land, making it a part of Spain.
I thought it would be a good idea to put some routines and charts in affect for the Cortes household. The charts I used were for discipline, chores and rewards. The last time I was at Ms. Cortes’ house, the boys had ripped up her list of rules. This made it difficult for Ms. Cortes to enforce them and be consistent. The discipline chart had five steps; step 1. Starting point, 2. The warning, 3. The timeout, 4. No TV or games and 5. Go to bedtime early. Right next to the discipline chart, we hung up the rules. I explained the Time out chart and the rules to Ms. Cortes and the children. Once Nichole and Messiah realized what the charts represented they tried to take them down. The chore and reward chart have pictures and the chore written under them. The will make it easy for the boys to follow it. The reward chart listed each boy’s name, the days of the
Hello I am Catalina Juarez. I am involved in this case because I am Hernando Cortes wife. I have known him before his first expedition in 1519. We didn’t marry until 1522. Throughout our marriage I realized that he had a mental illness. Of course everyone, even I thought he was just flat out crazy but his condition along with his mental condition got worse and worse. He always said that it wasn’t him who killed them all it was a disease. Something in the air that got them. This all started to happen after his expedition and he always thought cuban police would come get him. He tried convincing me that we have to leave but I just thought he was crazy and then one day I woke up and some things he had was
The event is conducted in the PAO Mallet theater and organized by Purdue Latin Cultural Center. The invited speaker, Javier Avila is the Latino professor from Pennsylvania, built the family with a white woman, and raise a white-tino son who was taught both English and Spanish. He memorized and praised the good quality of all of his family members including his father, mother, grandmother by reading the poem he wrote for them in Spanish. At the end of the event, we submitted the survey form and take a selfie with him. He also recommended the book of his poem collection.
When I arrived at Ms. Cortes’ apartment at 8:10 a.m. everyone was up. The boys were playing in their bedroom and Ms. Cortes was sweeping and mopping the kitchen and living room floors. I asked Ms. Cortes to put underwear on the Messiah and set a timer on her phone for 15 minutes. Messiah is two and he is potty trained. Ms. Cortes told me he goes to the bathroom at school, but will not go at home. She has accepted this behavior by putting a diaper on him when he is home. The alarm to help her remember to tell Messiah to go to the bathroom. The first time it went off, Ms. Cortes told Messiah to go to the bathroom and he did. I instructed her to praise him for going to the bathroom. It shows him, how proud she is and encourages him to continue to go to the bathroom. We did this throughout my shift. I noticed that every time Ms. Cortes’ alarm went off Jordan who is one would follow Messiah into the bathroom and try to potty. Ms. Cortes wanted him to go back to the living room and watch TV. I suggested she allows him to go potty with Messiah. Jordan looks up to big brothers, she should take advantage of this and potty train him. She could have three potty trained boys within a few months.
I believe the reason “The Puerto Rican woman” does not have a name in the story was probably because she was she was irrelevant and viewed as just being the mistress, I mean the one who was probably the caused their father’s abandonment to them all this while. Another reason could probably be because they viewed her willingness to have an affair with a married man with children as degrading to womanhood. To me, the effects that she had on the family was major because precious time that could have been spent by Papi connecting with his children were spent with her.
