The article states how wage gap negatively affects Canada’s economy, and could increase the GDP by $150 billion. Raising women’s involvement in the labor force by 3% would get Canada 42% of the way to the $150 billion by 2026. It also states that if women worked 50 minutes longer, $24 billion would be added to the economy. This article shows how important it is to utilize all individuals. I do not believe the article can be improved upon. It has statistics and studies proving the point it was trying to make. It also does not make fake or biased claims and has a very precise assessment.

Women can have the same job as men, work the same amount of hours and still not receive the same amount of pay which is simply wrong. The article is very well writing and seems to be very well researched in many areas throughout the entire article. What I am not impressed with is the way that the author executed some of the beginnings and endings of topics. There were some instances where it did not make any sense to me.

Women have always been recognized as less than men. Not only do women earn 88 cents for every dollar made by men, a woman of colour, race, or disability earn much less. Black women earn about 63 cents for every dollar, native women earn about 53 cents, women with disabilities earn about 73 cents while men with disabilities earn 76 cents. Paulette Senior, the president and CEO of the Canadian Women’s Foundation, explains in an article how women are at a risk of falling into poverty due to the gender gap and its low earnings. In Australia, women are experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression due to the gender gap. Women remain at an economic disadvantage compared to men due to the fact that some occupations still pay women less than their male counterparts. This unequal pay reinforces the thinking that it is okay for men to make more than women just because of their gender. This is an obstacle within the workplace which prevents a woman from advancing her career and allows for higher positions to continue consisting almost entirely of men. Present day in the labour market, “Canadian women earn 23% less than men regardless of their age, education or occupation” (Struman, 2015). Even though women have been quite successful in seeking employment and many possess a decent education, women continue to face a difference in pay because of their gender. In order to be seen as equals women need to be earning the same amount as their male coworkers because they possess the necessary skills needed to complete the job. Differences in pay should be based on an individual’s qualifications and job experience not their gender. The difference in pay prevents women from achieving success and reinforces the point that women remain at an economic disadvantage.
