TOPIC: THE EFFECT OF MODERN LIFESTYLE (TECHNOLOGY) ON STUDENT PRODUCTIVITY
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of study
Over the past few decades, technology has been drastically changing the way our society functions. The current generation is becoming completely dependent on new technologies. According to “Peter H. Martorella – 1997” Technology has opened the world of communication in a way before inexperienced. It also allows for more tasks to be completed in less time. In essence, technology has made the world smaller. The danger is when we get so reliant on technology that we cease to do things ourselves, limiting our activity and interaction with the world around us. With advancement within culture and society, there are positive and

So parents nowadays are questioning about the effect of technology towards their kids productivity. This is because technology such as hand phone, laptop or video games can make this kid negligent with the technology. It appears that students are unable to focus on their school work during class and at home because of the increasing number of media outlets and new, appealing uses of modern technology.
One of the researchers says that Technology may cause numerous health problems. For example, according to Practice, Medical News Today, PR Log and Poynton, scientists, researchers and doctors such as Darius Lakdawalla, Tomas Philipson, Amy Drescher and Charles Poynton are concerned about the links between technology, obesity/heart problems, eye strain, deafness and muscle issues. This will cause students productivity decreasing because of health problems. Students who use hand phones or laptop for a period of time can cause eye problems or changes in behavior. The students could not give a full commitment to their productivity if they have health problems. So this will decrease their
In today’s world, many people believe that technology’s sole purpose is to draw young people away from the real world and reality. Just because you do not realize it, it does not mean it is not happening. If you think back to when you were younger, was technology the same as today? However, technology is forever changing and improving. It affects everyone, not just the young group of people. Technology changes our brains, souls, and our very being. Once technology sucks you into the whole of its essence, you will have a hard time changing your life style.
In the 21st Century many individuals argue that technology has made life easier and assist humans by increased efficiency and productivity. However, they fail to realize that although technology has become a cornerstone in modern society, it has also become a hindrance in many aspects. The dictionary defines technology as the machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Scientific inventions are man-made, as a result, it is flawed and has its adverse effects. The advancement of technology has damaged society. It has prompted human beings to be less physically active, which in turn decreases human-to-human interactions and as a result of individuals being smart device stricken, it jeopardizes their privacy and safety.
Technology has a huge impact on everyone. Despite the variety of age groups, we have all become dependent on using technology throughout our lives. With the use of smartphones, alarm clocks, headphones, and so forth, we have started to invest tech into our everyday lifestyle, where it is now a social norm. As we are moving rapidly into a tech-based world, the use of technology has been incorporated into classrooms. Teachers have introduced PowerPoints, chatrooms, online assignments and much more to make the classroom run smoothly and help students accomplish more from their learning. However, problems can arise with technology usage in the classroom. Through students being able to access technology, they can become distracted
It is evident that technology was created to help humans in making jobs easier and more efficient. Nowadays electronics can perform tasks that seemed to be impossible in the past. Technology has many benefits and drawbacks: it is becoming very complicated, which brings many inconveniences to individuals. The further technology advances, the more it appears to be taking over people’s lives and choices. Individuals have started to allow technology to think and complete tasks on their behalf. Technology has created an unsocial generation in society: people are more involved in their social media sites, such as Facebook and Instagram. Friends
Over history technology has changed mankind’s overall culture. From clock to computers use of technology is occurring every day in all most all situations. In Manjoo’s article “Why tech Is Starting to Make Me Uneasy” he introduces how the latest tech ideas are shaping the future. Manjoo explain new surprise of technology ones felt like Christmas morning, it’s now like the darkened basement. He feeling so bad about tech because he thinks smartphones and social networks might be ruining the world. Also, he explains new tech may well improve much about our lives but may also put millions of people out of work, and some worry that it could wreak global havoc.
Technology is one of the greatest things invented, yet it has many drawbacks. In school and at home, smartphones, texting, video games, iPads, Facebook, Web surfing and television do get me distracted and interrupt my learning. Technology is everywhere you can see. Technology is in the workplace, education, at the mall, and many other places. In education, technology is a great thing, making life easier for teachers and administrators everywhere and lessons more engaging for students. However, technology is a huge distraction.
Technology has become an inseparable part of modern life, enhancing the speed of every action and increasing the pressure on human brain. It might appear that with innovations in every aspect of daily routine people should be able to have more free time and perform their tasks one by one without any hurry. On the other hand, they also could have become used to the necessity of being involved with more than one issue at the same time, and thus should be able to be constantly busy. However, it is not that simple. All of the aspects of modern life are not exclusively beneficial or solely harmful for human beings, because this impact is multifaceted and complex.
According to the article “Technology and Health “ from the Global issues in context website, researchers from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden have found out that “technology is interrupting our sleep” among other things. The light that is emitted from televisions cellphones and other types of similar devices makes our brains think that it is still day time and thus interrupts our sleep schedules. It typically only affects sleep schedules if it is used in the later part of the night but heavy use during the day could also effect this. Also in the long term, this could lead to anixiey and depressin but according to the “Technlogy and Health” article this is only in etreme cases involving “heavy screen technology users” .This relates to students many of which now have online classes and assignments that require them to be in front of a computer for an extended period of time and with many using things such as their smart phones outside of school the risk of “screen addiction” is not to far out for some. There are also other physical problems that have to deal with the ergonomics of using technology such as posture, head position, position of legs and feet and other things that are the responsibility of the individual. Ergonomics is simply just fitting the work space to the worker and is and it all seems very simple but many people unconsciously make mistakes when it comes to this. In technology classes the teachers are required to go over the basics of ergonomics but there are vast amount of people who haven’t been properly taught the basic principles of ergonomics and that could be potentially harmful to their body in the future. The good thing is that all the physical aspects are preventable given you take a few simple precautions and also the mental problems
(Ahuja, 2013). This may include different Internet searches, social media, watching television, playing video games, and even listening to music. This is over one-fourth of a day spent alone on staring at a computer, phone, or TV screen. Mechanical technology has been pronounced to have started around the year 450, and has developed from gigantic machines to calculate numbers to calculators on our phones that can be accessed with the touch of a button. Technology has developed enormously during the past decade with different developments in the way things are taught to the different types of devices we use to communicate long distance with others. While technology is climbing in sophistication, it is going downhill in the way it impacts and shapes people's lives. Technology is influencing society today in a negative way because it hinders child development, creates disconnections between family, and makes one dependent on the Internet instead of using head knowledge.
Often when kids hear they get to use computers during their day at school they get excited, but not for the right reasons. When teachers allow their students to use technology in the classroom, it gets easily abused. This generation of kids and students are so reliant on technology to get them through the day that it has almost become a shortcut for assignments or notes. Some students also get far off task during the lesson that it reflects on their tests or assignments. Some people and some teachers believe that computers in the classroom are helpful, studies have proven otherwise. Although technology is very useful throughout the school day, students tend to distract themselves and it hinders their
Being a mother with young children who use technology daily, I see the positive affects it has on my children’s learning process. I monitor time limits on the computer and video game usage, but I still allow them to use these devices because technology is used more frequently today. The school district which my children attends allows them to use technology while learning in school and requires lots of computer usage for homework. My children will continue to succeed in their classes with the skills they use from technology. Computers and video games have become a form of technology that helps children with technological skills, it enhances visual-spatial skills in academics like mathematics and these technology devices also enhances good focus
Technology is used on a daily basis to accomplish specific tasks or interests. Modern technology increases human capabilities and this technology has evolved with years. Technology simplifies life in so many ways and everyone defines technology in their own way. They’re new types of technology on the market, this technology simplifies our daily lives. They’re endless demands as consumers of technology, people use technology to accomplish simple tasks every day. Technology’s used in business, education, communication, healthcare, entertainment and so much more. There’s an unquestionable impact of technology on society. Whether considering the plow, vaccinations, or the internet, technology has had a huge impact on society. While not every advance benefits society, there’s many positive effects of technology. Modern technology makes life more convenient now more than ever. Modern technologies like broadband internet makes it possible to access relevant information at any time anywhere. Today’s technology makes it simple for students to learn from anywhere through online education and mobile education, which improves the education system. It also improves the health system, most hospitals have implemented modern technology in surgical rooms, which may reduce the number of mistakes made by doctors. Modern technology’s more convenient than when it was simpler because, it provides an easy way to access information, improves the education system, and it improves the health system.
Technology greatly helps a number of people. Teens use computers constantly for school work, communication, and for entertainment purposes. For example, here at Esko we use iPads in our everyday workspaces. In a good way, these nifty tools help save paper and create a better learning environment for each and every student. Outside of school most students don’t use technology the right way. They’re spending too much time on social media sites and not getting there school work done. “A study was completed and showed that “eighth-, 10th-, and 12th-graders in the 2010s actually spend less time on homework than Gen X teens did in the early 1990s” (Twenge). This is because many said they have been connected to there devices and then this takes time away from schoolwork. So what
Technology has transformed society and has become an important part in daily life in various forms, such as television, cell phones and computers. It has eased numerous tasks and issues in the educational, medical and engineering fields. It has also provided a means of communication to contact people around the world without difficulty. As society evolved and more technologies were developed to support the changes, parents depended more on these technologies as a learning tool for their young children and has become the norm in parenting for the twenty- first century. Over time, children have increased their time on their digital devices, spending less time with family and friends, “Children and youth get an average of 7 hours and 48 minutes of screen time per day.” (Active Healthy Kids Canada, n.d.) The amount of time spent on their electronic devices plays a critical role in their growth and development. The overuse of these devices can cause issues in the child’s cognition, health and social relationships. The excessive dependency on technology in society affects the development of children negatively, thus leading to a problematic lifestyle in adulthood.
In today’s society, modern technology is evidently developing rapidly and it is portrayed as a negative impact. It can be seen that technology is a substitution of all characteristics of life. The purpose of every technological invention is to benefit the lives of mankind; thus re-enforcing the positive connotation of technology. However, in long term it may not be beneficial; such as, education, work and leisure are all becoming dependent on technology; cyberspace is dangerous and child obesity is increasing.
