Climate change is known as one of the greatest threats to the planet. It is not only a threat to the planet environmentally, but it is a threat socially and economically. As we all could feel, see, and know, the weather patterns globally and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been increasing over an extended period of time. Although it may seem like it’s not a dramatic change since it is data from over a large amount of time, it is considering the fact that the large amount of time is not that large as it should be. Climate change is nothing new to us. It’s happened many years ago in the past because a variety of reasons but as the years go on, the rate on charts are just getting higher. As much as I would like to blame this predicament on nature, humans has a fault as well. We release thousands of greenhouse gases into the air through many procedures, but there are things that we cannot entirely control. However, whoever’s fault it is to blame I believe that if we work together and think we will more likely be able to find effective solutions for this problem.

The human race all around the world wonders if the climate is changing due to human activity or if it is just a natural occurrence. At certain parts of the Earth's surface, the climate can be observed much differently than other locations. As the years go by the average temperature of the Earth increases by little intervals. There are several different reasons why people believe the climate is changing every year. However, the increase of worldwide population and production of heat to the atmosphere is due to the increase of human activities that take place on a daily basis. Human activity is the main cause of the global climate change. The human impact on climate exceeds any known changes due to natural processes. The impact of this human activity is often misunderstood when looking at climate change.

Climate change is a real problem facing our world with all of the progression of today’s society. The amount of Greenhouse Gas emissions has gone up drastically in the past one hundred years alone. The use of transportation, industry, electricity and the deprivation of the world's natural resources has increased the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown an increase in the Earth's temperature by 0.8 degrees C in the past century alone. It is proven that humans are the cause of global warming but it is not too late to change how we are.

Climate change is something that affects us all as a human race, and we need to do something about it immediately. Ultimately, climate change is dangerous and upon us more than we realize. While there are some individuals who don't believe it exists at all, there are some who simply believe it is not caused by humans on this planet. My goal for this paper is to make aware the dangers that climate change poses to our planet and the human race. While doing this, I hope to provide fact-based evidence that supports the claim that we, as humans, cause the dangerous phenomena that is climate change and that we need to change our course of action before it is too late.

Climate change otherwise known as global warming has been an ongoing issue for decades. Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere. Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth’s atmosphere, causing rising sea-levels, melting snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, “Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift Within Decades, Not Centuries” he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist, James E. Hansen, explaining the effects of climate change on Earth today. Although many believe Hansen’s theories in the paper are quite far-fetched, the author mentions, “Despite any reservations they might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen’s group that society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks” (Gillis). Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society has not been able to reduce it fast enough. Many negative risks are being posed and will continue to mount if the issue of climate change is not taken seriously. Although climate change negatively affects nearly all aspects of the Earth, it poses a big threat to agriculture and food production.

Our world is changing. Not for the good, it’s getting worse. Within the last two hundred years our climate has been changing. Ever since the discovery of how useful nonrenewable resources are our climate has been gradually getting warmer. Climate change is threat with many consequences from the ecosystems that people live in all the way down to the evolution of species in the wild. There are many clear and present dangers in the world today, but climate change is of the most importance causing species to go explode in numbers, average temperatures to increase, uncontrollable forest fires, and the quality of air depleting.

The argument over climate change is an old struggle between the people who look to the future, and those who care about the present. Climate change is a term used to refer to the increase in average global temperature. Many people agree that most, if not all, of climate change is influenced by man-made constructs. These constructs include: factories, cars, and power plants. Even though some people believe that climate change does not exist, that it is just fluxuations in the Earth’s climate, there is more than enough scientific evidence to show that human power plants and motor vehicles as well as burning up forests for farmland accounts for the majority of climate change.

Climate change is defined as the increase of the average surface temperature on the earth. There is speculation that this climate change is due to human activity, but there are skeptics that say that it’s the earth’s natural variation of temperature. Even though natural variation is evident, data reveals that the extent of this climate change isn’t only effected by natural variation.

Climate change is a global problem that is affecting Earth’s delicate ecosystem. Many problems are present in our world today, such as starvation, flooding, heat waves, droughts and disease. These issues are likely to worsen as climate change takes its toll. In the past, the cause of this severe climate change was unknown. Today, it is known that manmade climate change is occurring. Scientists have discovered that humans have had the greatest impact on the Earth’s ecosystem. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, are causing the Earth to get hotter. Although humans are not the only cause of climate change, we contribute to this world wide problem because of the actions we take, which if affecting us now and will continue to affect us in the future.

Despite the controversy that surrounds the existence of climate change, there is a high agreement among scientists that human-caused climate change in very real. Over the past two decades, surveys and studies have been done on climate change and the results have shown that the average global temperature has increased by about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The sea level is also rising and heat waves are happening more frequently than before. These events could lead to an abrupt and potentially irreversible climate change but scientists do not know the tipping point for such an event. Therefore, the sooner the inhabitants of earth begin to take action against climate change, the less likely something irreversible could happen.

The studies of Earth have shown that in the last hundred years, the temperature has gone up one degree Fahrenheit. Even just one degree can make a big difference to the Earth’s natural form. The warming of the Earth has caused the snow and ice to melt much faster and the ocean levels to rise. In the next hundred years the effects will be more severe.

Current data reveals that the concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the earth's atmosphere is approximately 387 parts per million, which is roughly a 31% increase in the period 1750 to 2009. Consequently, it is evident that such increases in temperatures have caused a warmer planet (7). It is also evident that it is impossible to reverse the developments of industrial revolution. This means that as the advancements of industrial revolution continue and as energy demands increases, it is possible that this trend of climate change will continue for decades to come (McAloon, 8).
