Many people would agree that without faith, the world would be in chaos. The book Christian Foundation by Kathleen Fischer and Thomas Hart gives an interpretation on faith in our time. Many people would question the definition of faith. Faith is a gift, which is given by God to have trust in him and belief in him. This book is a great entry in anyone's life that has speculation on his or her own faith. The book has many ways into understanding ones own religion. It discusses the Bible, Jesus, Church, God's existence and Images of God. All of these chapters helped me get a better interpretation of what my religion entailed.

When an idea forms and flourishes into an existing discussion that travels through conversations among acquaintances, that idea progresses and solidifies into the minds of the curious thinkers. These “thinkers”, or theorists, then mold this idea into a hypothesis for experimentation. Unfortunately, even in modern times, some things are still unable to be experimented and proven correct or incorrect. This leaves us pondering on our own thoughts and curiosities of suppositions. Philosophical theories on the origin and evolution of religion vary in perspectives and ideas depending on individual views. The majority of theories relevant to modern times are dependent on a psychological, cultural, and social aspect according to most scientists and/or philosophers.

I am a true believer in faith and prayers because my life is spent on faith. Each time I wake up or lay down, I pray and ask the Lord to watch over my kids and all my loved ones. Anytime something happens bad, the outcome is good. This is the work of God because he calls the shots of my life. He is in total control of life.

What does it mean to have faith? This is not a question of, do you believe in the teachings of your religion, but what is a true believer. Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard are two philosophers that extensively delved with great contemplation and introspection of what it means to be a Christian. Both of these philosophers took a critical microscope to the typical Christian teachings of how to be a “good Christian.” What both of these philosophers eventually deduced is that the traditional teachings of Christianity remove the person from from ever truly finding the meaning behind their faith; thus separating the devoted from the divine. For both Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard, to be a Christian is more than going through the motions of what the church leaders tell you, but to find out for oneself why they ultimately believe.

The definition of faith from Merriam-Webster dictionary is the complete trust or confidence in someone or something, and the strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

Faith plays a very intricate role in today’s society, especially when it involves determining the validity of somebodies claim or argument, faith gives us closure as well as confidence in someone or something. But on the religious side, your faith is a way of thinking. It gives you a basis to live your everyday life according to that faith. Strong believers of faith will have very close-knit views that fall in line with the views of their faith. As humans, we will generally have more faith in certain people as they gain our trust and in general have faith in anything or anyone that believe in.

Faith, it is the complete trust or confidence in someone or something. We as humans can only define it as that because we cannot tangibly grasp faith, or even understand it as we do our emotions. It can be as overwhelming as love and yet there may not be a reason or an understanding to why we have it or put our faith into someone or something. The only way to describe it is through the claim faith and reason are compatible. This claim is examined in the stories, Genesis, as God creates human beings to live amongst his other creations but to have free reign over the land, the Romans & Corinthians, as even Jesus’ faith was to put to the test, and it is deeply explored in St. Augustine’s Confessions. Furthermore, the compatibility of faith and reason is seen in The Book of Matthew as Jesus travels the lands of Israel blessing them with his own faith. Faith and reason would not be attainable if it weren’t for our triune God subtly giving us the knowledge we need to make decisions on our own.

The existence of God has been in question for as long as mankind has existed and thought logically. Many questions have plagued the human mind in regards to God, and there have been many arguments drawn with the hopes of proving the existence of a supreme being whom we know as God. The “God” question has been presented to every individual at some point in their lives. It is a topic that will bring forth never-ending questions and an equal amount of attempted answers. One of the most prevalent arguments for the existence of God is the moral argument. It states that God alone makes sense of moral values, and since moral values exist, then God exists. A great number of people nowadays, including atheists and agnostics, trust in moral values. However, they do not agree with the Christian answer to provide a basis for those values. For many years homosexuality has been a debate over acceptance but has been for the most part considered an immoral act based on religious beliefs and the obligation to obey God’s commandments. These views on homosexuality can relate to the Divine Command Theory because morality is dependent upon the actions God commands us to do. There is however controversy with the Divine Command Theory that argues that morality may not be what God says it is therefore, the basis of homosexuality being immoral and moral comes into question. Thus, when we debate homosexuality as moral or immoral, the last thing we need to say is that homosexuality is wrong because the Bible says so. But before we can go any further we must understand what a moral action is, a moral action is one that results in the maximization of both individual and collective happiness, freedom, and fulfillment without imposing unreasonable or unjustified costs upon third parties or the broader civilization (Kennon). Thus, Gay and Lesbian relationships are not morally wrong based off the concepts of morality and the weaknesses of the Divine Command Theory.

Faith in the context of religion is being used to identify a token of confidence. It is important to understand that faith is the source of religion and therefore can exist without religion however religion can certainly not exist without faith . Religion has been seen as a method of rationalizing various cultural phenomena which characterize the human agency, the human way of acting, reasoning, and feeling. Despite the lack of knowledge on religion it still manages to influence moral values. Religious worldviews find themselves in long traditions and are usually related to supernatural perceptions. Most religions believe in the existence of some form of transcendent creatures, such as deities and spirits or other principles as for instance the chinese Dao. One may question faiths reliability in terms of facts, whether or not it may be belief or epistemically justified knowledge.
