The First Flight Douglas came home to a surprise.” Hello dear, look!”, his mother was in the middle of the room holding an envelope. Douglas had a pretty good idea of what it was, so he rushed over in a panic and grabbed the envelope. He was hesitant on opening it, a slight feeling of fear and excitement ran through his veins. Douglas finally worked up the courage and there it was, he read the words, ACCEPTED. He was so excited he nearly jumped out of his shoes! He danced around the room then went into the kitchen and grabbed his mother so she could dance too. Ever since Douglas was a boy, his dream was to go to Dayton University and become a journalist. He was leaving in three months to go to the University, barely enough time to say goodbye, he thought. His current occupation was the ice cream store on 23rd South Williams Street, a block away from the Wright Cycle Company. He new the Wright Brothers and had a few encounters with them. The first was when Orville and Wilbur were arguing over a bike and then got some ice cream to calm the conflict. Douglas actually got his current mode of transportation from the wright brothers, considering that the money he makes from selling ice cream won’t get him a car. The bike was lovely, but will no longer be needed when he goes off to college. The money he had saved up all his life was now being used for college, so he hopes that this journaling career takes off;) When the time came,
Rudy’s best friend was the only one who believed he could. Though Rudy’s grades were not great in high school; he worked hard to get decent grades in college. Rudy was given the opportunity to attend a community college to earn better grades that would get him into Notre Dame. Rudy studied endlessly to get B’s and A’s in his classes. The road to reaching my goal is a difficult one. To develop a story will be a long, difficult process and I will struggle with scenes and character development. My goal will be difficult to achieve, but I will never stop working hard to achieve my
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. Imagine being the only child and having to have all the responsibilities of an adult. You have no help,no siblings and no one to take the attention and pressure off of you in your family. The worst thing is that it has to be that way and you can do anything about it. That is because of the policy that the government decided on called the one-child policy.
Shoot! I thought. I didn’t want to wake up Darry, he looked so peaceful. More peaceful than I have seen him in years. He only worked one job now so he could spend more time with Sodapop and I. The judge said that he would take care of some of our expenses so Darry could be home to help me get better. It really worked. My grades in school improved as well as my attitude. I worked really hard on my English grade, I wanted to make my teacher proud. I wrote a story for extra credit about this past year and it began like this: When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home…“It was really scary.” I started. “One of those boys was pushing Johnny’s head into the freezing cold
HP did many things correctly when addressing the challenges for disruptive change. For instance, they organized a smaller team of “hungry” individuals from marketing, manufacturing, and research and development that moved the project away from the core group essentially acting as a small startup business. The smaller group was motivated to establish itself and prove their product was worthy of funding and upper management support. They also differentiated themselves by choosing team members that were uninterested in maintaining status in the company mainstream way of thinking. HP allowed a lot of leeway to the Kitty Hawk team in making decisions and providing financial backing to the project’s
The next morning a young boy woke up startled by his mother shaking him and telling him to get up. She said they were leaving and Ben didn’t know why they were leaving, but he trusted his mother. He got up and followed his parents to where everyone else was standing. Ben wondered why everyone was wanting to leave. He thought about all the fun times he had had there with all of his friends. Running around, playing tag, and swimming
He graduated flight school in 1925 and, using his reputation as a cautious and capable pilot, became an airmail pilot at Lambert Field for the Robertson Aircraft Corporation of St. Louis. He carried mail between St. Louis and Chicago for several years before he saw an advertisement in the local newspaper for the Orteig Prize. A New York hotel owner Raymond Orteig offered a prize of $25,000 to the Pilot who completed a non-stop flight over the Atlantic from New York to Paris. Charles could not get that ad out of his head. He soon relented and challenged himself to make the
An incoming freshman who goes by the name of Junie B. Jones had her first day of high school today. It was her first time ever driving to school without a parent present in the car, and boy was she nervous. After she had gotten ready and eaten breakfast, she headed out for her first day at a school called Dubuque Senior High school. As soon as she gets there she realizes she'd have to parallel park because all the parking spots in the lot were sadly taken. Junie was nervous, she'd never parallel parked before and this time everyone was watching her. It was time for Junie to make her move and she wings it! It was a huge relief for her, and she was just happy nobody saw her terribly mess up on parking, and didnt make a bad first impression.
In the 1950’s Arthur Miller wrote a play, The Crucible, and set it in Salem during early colonization. In The Crucible, John Proctor has an affair with a young woman named Abigail Williams. However, John decides it is time to end things with Abigail, because of this she seeks revenge and spirals the town into madness in search of a “witch”. In Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter , minister, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Hester Prynne a young widow have a love affair and Hester becomes pregnant. Hester is forced to wear a red “A” on the front of her dress. Hester’s “dead” husband reappears and is set on finding out who Pearl’s father is. Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter share similar themes about internal conflict.
When Noriko and Don Carroll moved from New York City to suburban Las Vegas, they found a tiny nest on a clothesline on their back porch. As the Carrolls settled into their new home, so did a female hummingbird they named Honey. For weeks, and years, the Carrolls watched in fascination as they witnessed an event few humans are privy to-the birth and growth of two hummingbirds.
Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris May 21st and landed in Ottawa on July 1st the week before the 1927 aerial photos were taken over Muskoka Township, Blackstone and Crane Lakes. The purpose of these excellent resolution photos was to take stock of resources in Canada such as forests, water sheds and eventually for mapping. The resolution is good enough, with some image sharpening, to just discern the grassy centre of the roads by the lake.
As the students of Mrs. Davis class were researching a paper about their future careers, all Chris could do was just sit there and think. He didn’t have a plan, he didn’t know what he was going to do after high school but most importantly he didn’t know what he was going to do after college. He hadn’t decided on what career he wanted to choose. With the many careers that there were out there to be offered he just didn’t know which one best suited him. All he really wanted was a career that didn’t require him to leave his home and a career that would help his community.

“Okay, here we are” The man in the moving truck says as he hops out of the truck to help me unload. “Thanks for the ride.” I said shortly as he opened up the hatch and started unloading my furniture. “You a college girl?” he asked being a bit nosy, I replied simply with “ Yeah, it’s my first year,”. He looked at me and laughed, his voice echoing through the rural neighborhood. “Ain’t no colleges in Chandler.” I looked at him rather surprised as I said “Yes there is, the community college.” He looked at me with an almost worried look on his face. “Didn’t figure you would be going to a smaller college like that. My mistake.”
After the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor, life in the U.S. had changed. It was the first time in a long time that America was attacked on its homeland. This national security threat was a big shock to the people. The Japanese had to suffer the consequences of their attack. Just as the Germans developed concentration camps for the Jewish during World War II, the Americans set up "relocation" programs better known as internment camps to keep all the Japanese. The reason the Japanese were moved into these camps was because they were suspected of being spies. They were forced to live there for up to four years and were not able to continue with their own lives as they were before while they were living in these camps.
