Winning a scholarship in any context is a huge honor. In my case, being the recipient of the first School scholarship also fills me with deep gratitude and a sense of responsibility. As a former student of the school and as a current instructor there, I know how important it is for the School to nurture thinking at every level, and by being chosen for this opportunity, I know exactly that the path they are setting me to walk is the right one. Quoting them, they opened their school to welcome “misfits”, and because this industry needs a good mixture of hearts and brains/passion and logic/art and science, they are now entrusting the misfit in me, to become an example to follow, someone who can lead and help others on their own path. Whether by
Receiving this scholarship will boost my self-esteem knowing that I was responsible for creating a foundation that brings me closer to my career goal. This scholarship will also reduce my stress over the tuition cost. It will also eases my burden of the future student
I selected architecture as my career. It involves a lot of my passions such as math, building, algebra, and designing. Architecture can mean: A general term to describe buildings and other physical structures.
But a scholarship means more than that and makes a more profound difference in my life as well. Receiving a scholarship is not just about the money, but it is about the generosity, the philanthropy, of the giver. It is about the humbleness and efforts of the receiver. And it is about honor and blessing of receiving the scholarship, which encourages and supports academic and professional endeavors of the
Everything changed for me my last year of high school. Like most seniors I was busy applying to colleges, studying for tests, volunteering in the community and trying to figure out what I aspired to be when I grew up. I thought I wanted to be an Interior Designer and I traveled with my parents all over the country touring colleges that offered the major. I achieved good grades in school and I was accepted at several of the schools I applied to. Once I decided on a university I began my search for scholarships to help fund my education. By chance I ran across an audio scholarship contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The essay topic was about the importance of Veterans to our past and future. Because I was a military dependent this topic was near and dear to me. I worked really hard on my submission and to my surprise and my parent’s delight; I was selected as the winner for my state. The opportunities I experienced as a result of representing
To some individuals this may not be a big deal but as for me this means everything. When I first applied for the Scholarship I had a tremendous amount of doubt. Truth be told, I was surprised when I received an email showing congratulations at the top of the page. I realized this was my first scholarship ever and I shouted out in excitement to my husband. Not only has this been helpful financially, but mindfully encouraging. It reminds me to never give up and you are never too old to make a difference under any challenging circumstance.
It took long hours and dedication to get me at this point where I stand today. I now see learning differently, and want to go to school ready to do hard work and learn. Having more time and moving forward will sharpen my knowledge and my career will be very bright. In order to stay focus, and to remind me of that I keep my report card and the William Scholarship on a table, which I past by every day. When I look at it, I get reminded of my achievements. That motivates me to try and work hard knowing there is way more to come for me in the future. I would be very grateful to be accepted for this scholarship and would cherish it for a
Every scholarship I have earned has helped me build those stepping stones in my educational path that got me to where I am now. My education has been made possible because of scholarships, and receiving the Rose Marie Beard Woman of Spirit Honors Scholarship will help me reduce my financial concerns both for my undergraduate and graduate degrees and fulfill my goal to study abroad, allowing me to invest my time for organizations, volunteer work, my studies, and internships, which are the things that adds value to my education. By furthering my education, meeting more individuals that will mentor and become leaders to me, and gaining more knowledge, I will be able to apply these skills as a healthcare professional. It is my goal to come back to my university and organizations with all the world knowledge as well as the discoveries I have found about myself to provide insightful and authentic perceptions. I want to make proud all of those people who have helped me along the way so far in my educational journey and all those who will help me in the future and let them to know that their investment in me will be worth it because I do let challenges come in my way. I always look for progress, and once I reach one goal, I set a new
Altogether, I believe that I deserve the scholarship because I am a diligent worker who seeks to make a positive change in the world. With a fully-enriched education, I can make that
I would like to share with you how grateful I am to have been selected for the First Generation Scholarship. Being a first-generation student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in my family is both exhilarating and intimidating. I never fathomed being able to manage the cost of higher education, nor believing the probability of being selected for a scholarship. Opening the letter and reading the words, “Congratulations, I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected…”, was one of the most surprising and emotionally charged moments of my life. I simply could not believe what I was reading, especially considering that this was the first and only time I have applied for a scholarship. Too many times I heard how it was impossible to get one because there are too many people applying – it would be like winning the lottery. I would hear how it was a waste of time and not worth the
After this relatively successful experience, I started to think about global level. I concluded that if I need to be impactful at my field I should manage to complete my postgraduate studies in such field. I’ve came across this amazing scholarship and found that the field I’m interested in is listed. I suppose that qualifying to such scholarship will boost my career path. And provide me the level of knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and confidence that might help me to take my actions to the next level.
My grandmother was a nurse who helped deliver babies. Everybody who worked with her was her friend and looked up to her including her patients. She passed away two years ago after battling cancer. She is my inspiration and I hope to become a great nurse just like her. By being awarded a scholarship I would be able to pursue my dream career and receive the education I need to do so. I work full time and attend school full time and I'm doing everything on my own with no financial support outside of loans. I have taken out loans to help me but I can't afford to keep taking out loans. Even though I am required to use my parent's information for FASFA I do not receive any financial help from them to complete my schooling. I am on my own. They make
When committees are deciding who to gift scholarship money to, I can assume that they want their funds to go towards someone who will take complete advantage of the prize; whether the funds go towards buying a much-needed laptop or a philosophy book, we are an investment. Because of the opportunities given to me throughout high school, I can say with confidence
June 2015, Deer Park, TX – Annually Shell Federal Credit Union awards John Garrison College Scholarships to deserving seniors. This year the students were required to write a 250 word essay on what the difference between a bank and a credit union and why a young adult would use a credit union over a bank for their future needs. Other criteria such as GPA, community involvement, extracurricular activities and volunteer hours play a factor in scoring to award the scholarships.
I feel I really do deserve the Staples Annual Academic Scholarship Award. Most notably, as a kid it was always my dream to attend university. Although my mind would always change on what I wanted to study, it never was an option that I wouldn’t go to post-secondary school. I was going to attend college last year, 2015, studying a simple business program until I found my dream program at St. Thomas University. Of course, while I was dead set on taking this program, I wasn’t prepared for how much university actually costs. The school is away from home so will be leaving my family, friends, and job. The costs of living on my own overwhelmed me and I had to take a year off from school, something I had never wanted to do, to work full time at my
Overall, earning a scholarship will allow me to earn a degree in college, which will increase my ability to give back to my community, as well as my ability to support my family. Thank you for the honor of allowing me to share my story. Hopefully, the LEAD Foundation will assist me in my plans of achieving higher bars of
