Suicide is not just a effortless behavior it’s more of a complicated behavior. According to the website Save,”Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death.” (“Save. Suicide Awareness Voices of Education”). There’s different ways that can help us understand suicide by just learning about the different statistics, the risk factors that affect all ages, the four different types of suicide, and how it can also have an impact on other people around them.
In the nursing field, there are several nursing interventions that exist. Suicide-awareness programs are a specific nursing intervention that could be used in a specific situation. For a nursing intervention to be effective, it must be proven through scientific research, making the intervention evidence-based practice. The purpose of this assignment is to utilize and evaluate evidence-based practice regarding a specific nursing intervention. The specific nursing intervention that has been chosen through article research is suicide-awareness programs and how they affect a nurses’ ability to recognize suicidal behaviors. The clinical question formulated from information in the article chosen for this assignment is, do nurses who receive short training programs along with a continuing education class monthly have improved ability to recognize suicidal behaviors compared to nurses who only attend the monthly continuing education class?

Suicide is the wilful taking of one’s own life. Suicide is prevalent and affects people of all ages and cultures. In the UK male population suicide is now the biggest killer of middle-aged males overtaking diseases such as cancer and heart disease. A major predictor of engaging in suicidal behaviour is depression. Furthermore, it was found that 15% of clinically depressed patients would take their own lives. (HOLT). Those are only statistics but they can in no way describe the misery in which people find themselves. There are many differing factors that contribute to a person engaging in suicidal behaviour such as loss, history of mental disorder and environmental factors. There are also many theories of suicide that integrate these established risk factors such as the interpersonal theory of suicide.

Although some might not take suicide as a major issue occurring worldwide, little do they know that it is the third leading cause of death for people between the ages 15 to 44 (“Mental Health,” n.d.). Among these different ages, men, are more likely to die this way than women (“Suicide Statistics,” n.d.). Have you ever thought about killing yourself because of depression or because of the responsibilities you have? Suicide is when someone ends their own life. Usually people who commit suicide is because they can not take the pain of something, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Suicides can happen all ages, but according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, people around the ages of forty five to sixty four had the highest suicides in the year of 2015. Suicide is a problem because many people thinks that it would make other people’s life easier and that it is a way to run away from their own problems and pain. However, suicides can make other people around them think that suicide is the best way to solve problems and it can encourage them to commit suicide. The idea that suicide can end pain and that it is the easiest way to run away from hardships is a problem because it leads to more suicides. Even though people say talking suicide in schools would end up giving some students negative ideas, studies have shown that if schools talk about it in a safe way, students will gain awareness rather than negative encouragement. The natural end of every human life is death. Some people, for unknown reasons, choose to end their own lives. Suicide is the action of killing oneself intentionally. Suicide kills more than one million people per year. People who are suicidal are often misunderstood as people who cannot be helped or who are just crazy. Others often think that suicidal individuals will be suicidal regardless how others treat them (both positively and negatively). Although, the truth is not all suicide can be prevented but most can. Suicide may be avoided though knowing the warning signs, school interference and going through therapy.

There are twice as many suicides as there are homicides in this country! Suicide is committed every 17 minutes. Suicide is considered a "permanent solution" to a "temporary problem", which is why many people find that as their only "escape" and eventually commit it. “It’s Not That Bad” or “Snap out Of it” are the most ignorant and insensitive statements that anyone can make to a person who is depressed or suicidal. As for people who keep saying those words, why don’t they use them with people who suffer from another illness? It is obvious that no one considers depression as an illness, but it is indeed. Suicidal thoughts are the consequence of feeling like you can’t get over something in your life that is stopping you. Being hopeless about the future, may frequently lead to suicide as the best solution. In Lebanon, every three days, there is one person who kills himself and this is a situation that a top government health official describes as “frightening”. “Suicide does not diminish the person who carries it out, it diminishes the society, the state, the oppressive political, economic and social system in which the citizen lives,” said Wael Abu Faour, the public health minister. Every individual is unique and - with a different genetic structure and different life experiences - and thus everyone have various ways to deal with his problems. So what are the major causes of suicide, the purpose of human being and what does really make us hold on to life when we lose hope?
Each year, one out of thirteen teens age nineteen and under attempts suicide (Preface). Personally, that is more than enough teens choosing to take their lives each year. It isn’t really easy to figure out why some teens choose to take their lives. Suicide is a multi-faceted issue, sometimes an act of courage, sometimes an act of selfishness, sometimes a brave choice in the face of pain, and sometimes an act of fondness. It is important to understand why some choose to take their lives and some ways that in school and out of school we as individuals are able to help those in need.

In the United States, suicide is the third leading cause of death among our young people (McWhirter, McWhirter, McWhirter, & McWhirter, 2017). Approximately 16% of youth have thoughts of suicide, 13% will attempt to develop a plan, and 8% will actually carry out this plan every year (McWhirter et al, 2017). Every day, five young people under the age of 20 commit suicide; every 6 hours, a young person completes suicide (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Within a single high school classroom, there will be an average of three students that attempt suicide (CDC,
