At the outset of the eighteenth century, the Ohio Valley can be identified as the main catalyst in triggering open hostilities between the French and the Americans. The French occupied parts of Canada but also wanted a stake in America. Its means to do this was through the Ohio Valley it maintained. However, the colonists were bound to permeate this area in their push towards the west. And as they did, competition for the lush lands flared up and came to a breaking point. This directly lead to the French and Indian War with the Indians, for the most part, siding with the French against Britain. The events and sentiments that took place during and immediately after the French and Indian War (1754-1763) were extremely important …show more content…
When American recruits finally dribbled in, they were primitive in military customs. Some even deserted camp, and when they were seized and brought back to camp, they were whipped. British General Braddock went so far as to forewarn his soldiers of a penalty of hanging for the next that deserted him. The colonists, having always thought the British militia to be noble and indomitable, were shocked at their behavior. The almighty Redcoats were actually running and hiding in battle times when they should have proved valorous. The British were probably embarrassed too over a childish rivalry between English generals William Johnson and Governor William Shirley at Fort Albany. Competition arose because of Shirley's greed for Indian allies, and neglecting Johnson simultaneously. They immaturely wrote secret letters about each other, getting others involved and annoyed. A factor also contributing to the disappointment of the colonists is how the British consistently fought a European war instead of a new style war, particularly guerrilla warfare (based on sneak attack and using camouflage), which limited their success and sometimes determined failure. Impressment prevailed for part of the war, adding insult to outrage. Impressment refers to the British sending "press gangs" from their warships to bring in mariners to serve in the British ships. They received little to no pay, and about 900 of
After the fall of Puritan rule in Massachusetts, Great Britain regained control over Massachusetts and expanded throughout North America, making it one of the greatest empires in the world. In order to maintain their power in the colonies they enacted rules and regulations regarding traded goods. However, most colonists resorted to smuggling and boycotting items. It was not until the French and Indian War did England begin to strictly enforce these restrictions due to a large war debt. The Sugar Act was one the first acts that had started a domino effect which led to the American Revolution.
The French and India war started out as a dispute over land in the Ohio River Valley area, both the French and English settlers moved towards colonization of that area. The English settlers previously settled in Virginia, moving from the northwest into the region. The French settlers started moving east from the Great lakes and south from Canada. George Washington at the time was working with the English forces to remove the French from the region by force. Furthermore, the English ran into a French group at Uniontown, and the English then massacred the French at the Battle of Jasonville. Then, Washington setup camp after at the Great Meadows and began constructing a fort, but however the French and their 600 soldiers, then were able to overpower the English and, then they were able to gain control of the area. The French and Indian War, which happened between 1754 and 1763 was a stepping-stone for what would become known as the Revolutionary War. The French and Indian War was originally a dispute over the Ohio River Valley. The French considered it their territory, where as the English considered it theirs. While it was a territorial dispute between the countries, the war took place in the colonies. The colonist fought bravely beside the British, whereas the Indians sided with the French. At the beginning all the countries wanted was to claim the Ohio River Valley as their own; however, the outcome of the war was very different. By fighting for that territory, the French sacrificed not only Quebec, but also all claim on land in the New World.
The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are two very different wars that started for two different reasons. However, there is some proof to show that the French and Indian war was the cause of the American Revolution. For example, because Britain was in debt they had to tax the colonists which angered them, Britain’s economy was so bad because of the first war it made the colonists boycotting that much more effective and because France lost in the first war so when they learned of what was happening they helped America win.

The French and Indian War had an almost innumerable number of effects on the political, economic and ideological relations between Britain and the American colonies. The war touched the entirety of America’s diverse population; from the Native Americans to the soldiers. Some were gladdened by the invigorated ties to England while others were enraged by the economic situation. There is no doubt that the war truly altered and revolutionized the American colonies.
The turning point of the French and Indian war is when the British had turned to William Pitt to be in charge of the war operations. William Pitt was a British secretary and he was the founder of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. And William Pitt refused to loose the war, so he stepped up to the plate and had replaced all the old soldiers, with younger ones. And had also committed more
From the period of 1754 to 1763, the British engaged in a war with the French within American territory. This war, fought due to both French and Native American hostilities, affected both the Americans view on the British and British treatment of their colonies. Ultimately, the French and Indian war lead to political, economic, and geographical changes for the American colonists and Great Britain.
When the thirteen colonies were created, the colonies depended greatly on England in order to survive and make something out of this new land. England not only helped them economically but also in time of war against the French during The French and Indian War. It meant that England had to spend extra money helping out the colonies and also with any necessary equipment required to fight in the war. Back home, England had been fighting a war for around 100 years already, so helping out the colonies just added more to their expenses. England wanted to earn some of the money they had wasted, so England decided to raise and put new taxes on the colonies. The colonials thought some of these taxes were outrageous and began getting furious at England. This was one reason for the tension that grew between the colonies and England. Other reasons like the Boston Massacre, in which British soldiers shot and killed 5 colonials, and the Intolerable Acts, led to more anger and tension between these two. All this things eventually led to the colonies declaring war on England. I believe the most significant cause to why the colonies declared war on England was because of the

The French and Indian war was the event that provoked the American Revolution. The French and Indian war or Seven years war, lead to certain events that caused Americans to realize that their English liberties were being denied.
The French and Indian War was a war between England and France over the Ohio River Valley in North America. To settle this conflict, the Proclamation of 1763 was written up saying that the colonists could not settle west any further. This increased tensions between the colonists and Great Britain because the colonists felt negatively affected by this proclamation.
The French and Indian War, a colonial manifestation of the same forces and tensions that erupted in the European Seven Years' War, was, quite simply, a war about imperialism. The French and the English were competing for land and trading rights in North America; these strivings resulted in a great deal of disputed land, particularly that of the rich Ohio Valley. Each nation saw this territory as vital in its effort to increase its own power and wealth while simultaneously limiting the strength of its rival. Although the war itself therefore stemmed from a fairly simple motivation, its consequences were far- reaching. The English victory in the war decided the colonial fate of North America, and yet at the same time sowed the seeds of the eventual colonial revolution. After the war, the British ended their century-long policy of salutary neglect, attempting to keep the colonials under a more watchful eye. The British also raised taxes in an effort to pay for the war. Both of these postwar policies resulted in massive colonial discontent and added to the budding nationalism that eventually exploded in the Revolutionary War.
The French and American Revolutions were started all because of one thing, The Enlightenment, The Enlightenment was a time where people were thinking about the corrupted government in their countries. Monarchs were becoming way too powerful, they were taxing the third class people so much they could barely afford to eat. Even when the topic was brought up to the King nothing ever changed. The Declaration of Independence was another thing that brought the American Revolution to life, the whole thing was telling about how America wanted freedom from England, and it angered the King George greatly. The Declaration of the Rights of Man was the French document that told about all the changes that needed to be made to the French government.
