The primary function of language is to convey ideas from one person to another. The dialect appearance is a typical process of linguistic development. It is natural that varieties of language appear since the process of language usage includes language expansion. Social communities tend to split up into groups, each of them displays differences in behaviour. Language reflects these differences.

While reading chapter six from Beyond Grammar Language, Power, and the Classroom, written by Mary R. Harmon and Marilyn J. Wilson, I began to realize how much we become caught up in the rules of the so-called Standard American English. Sure, all of us sound different and use different dialects and slang but does that define us? In America if a southerner moved to the north, at first they would sound very different. That doesn’t mean they have a lesser education or make how they sound wrong. Southerners have a very strong accent and use their own slang. That's not a bad thing. It just shows where they came from. Eventually after spending years in the north their accent may start to fade but the person as a whole does not change. With or without the accent, they are still the same person.
