Gentrification of Cities Gentrification Is a problem in possibly the oddest geographical problem of our modern day society. This would be kind of how current New York City is set up. Only the richest can live in Manhattan or the central part of the city and then the poorer people are spread out amongst the different burros of NYC. Soon this will happen with most major cities until it is not cool or “high class” to live in the city anymore and the cycle will continue. Making Gentrification really more of a cycle rather than an effect. And this cycle will repeat its self unless we reach economic equality which is impossible in any real world scenario. The cycle of Gentrification is an unavoidable situation without systematic government intervention, which should not be allowed because as cities are living breathing communities they should be able to change its members along with the social context giving to the city at the time. For example, city dwellers were looked down upon in the periods before the 1960’s and now they are seen as intellectuals so as time goes on the intellectuals will move on out of the city for more space and those lower on the socio economic ladder will move back in thus completing the cycle.
