The great barracuda is an open sea predator. Their style of attack is to stalk and ambush their prey. They have a distinguished and torpedo shaped body, which allows them a burst of speed they use for attacking. The tail fin is double notched, a feature unique to the barracuda. It aids in giving them they fast speeds they use to catch their food. The color and pattern of the body can change when desired, which is helpful for prey stalking. This ability to change color and pattern is helpful for them living in the Windy Beach, where there is more movement and stirring of sediment. Mostly silver-green in color, the barracuda can darker its shade to match the ocean floor and better blend in for its surprise attacks. Some adult barracudas hide

The definition for erosion is the process of the surface of the Earth being worn down by natural causes such as wind, waves and rain. A type of erosion that impacts on the Gold Coast is the coastal erosion. Coastal erosion is the permanent loss of land along the shoreline. Erosion on Gold Coast beaches occurs mostly to the sand on the beaches where the waves can easily erode away.
There are many time ecologists are concerned about the effect of exploitation of natural resources to the interrelated terrestrial and linked aquatic ecosystem. The area under study involves related terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem of south Florida ecosystem, and it is tough to underestimate the impact of exploitation of one ecosystem to the other as these two ecosystems are interlinked in one way or other. The ecosystem description is that it consists of an aquatic environment characterized by the Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades ecosystem that consists of river Kissimmee and Okeechobee Lake. To the other end is the linked terrestrial ecosystem around this aquatic ecosystem such an Everglades national park, big cypress preserve, and Biscayne
My critter is fish. The name of the fish is called the Goldfish Saurus meaning it is half dinosaur and half guppy. This type of fish is a hunting fish, it mainly eats and kills tiny animals. It lives in the deep seas of the Pacific Oceans. The Goldfish Saurus hibernate for half a year, it likes to sleep in little burrows of seaweed. The Goldfish Saurus eats small fish and baby octopi and squids that is smaller than itself. It kills its prey by using the scaly fins on top of his back to directly jab its opponent. For self defence the Goldfish Saurus The tail of the Goldfish Saurus is very strong and its function is to move forward in upward swimming strokes. This kind of fish moves pretty quickly and catches its prey instantly. The Goldfish
Have you ever visited the dazzling beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel? If you have, maybe you've noticed the abundance of seashells washed up on its shores. Did you know that Fort Myer was originally established as Fort Whipple back in 1866? In fact, Fort Myer was the actual site of the first aircraft flights at a military installation. Also, several exhibition flights by Orville Wright took place there between 1908–1909. Another curious fact about Fort Myer is that it was a staging area for many engineering and chemical companies during World War I. In 1972, Fort Myer was designated a National Historic Landmark. Today, it offers well-preserved cavalry facilities and officers' quarters that visitors may explore on site. Once you're done with
The cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus) is found in open Atlantic Ocean waters from Western Africa to the Northeastern United States and parts of the Caribbean. Cownose rays are a migratory species on the Atlantic Ocean, that returns to the Chesapeake Bay each summer to mate. These animals prefer warm waters up to depths of 72 feet, where they can find bottom dwelling lobsters, crabs, and small fish for prey. The cownose ray possess adaptations to easily locate, kill, and eat its prey. One such adaptation is the electroreceptors found on the ray’s snout. These creatures cruise for prey over soft mud and sand bottoms, until they sense electrical stimuli from organisms through these electroreceptors. The ray will then stir up mud or sand by fluttering
They can swim at thirty five miles per hour(Institution, Smithsonian). They also have seven rows of teeth(Institution, Smithsonian). They have a total of three hundred triangular serrated teeth(Bradford). When Great white sharks are in the womb they supposedly swallow their own teeth. The first time they sink their teeth in their prey, it is called a sample bite. Sharks normally go up to their prey and taste them to make sure the want to eat them(Bradford). That's why most attacks are not fatal, because the shark tastes the human and thinks yuck that is not what I want to eat and spits them back out. They don't normally mistake humans for food considering only five to ten happen every year(Bradford). Once they sense food they need to get to it fast. They can swim up to fifteen miles per hour(1). Great Whites have to be fast at Cape Cod because they can not sneak attack the
Black sea bass are fairly stout-bodied fish, with a long dorsal fin, and large pectoral and pelvic fins. The rounded tail sometimes has a long streamer trailing out from the top edge. Each gill cover has a flat spine near the outer edge. Mature males have a fleshy dorsal hump just anterior to the dorsal fin. The background color of the black sea bass (smokey gray, brown, or bluish black) is marked with darker patches and light speckles. The belly is only slightly lighter than the sides. Young sea bass are green or brown with a dark lateral stripe running from the head to the tail. Juvenile and adult black sea bass feed upon a variety of benthic invertebrates such as rock crabs, hermit crabs, squids, and razor clams. Black sea bass adults typically
There are several different factors that make the lionfish such a successful invader of the northwest Atlantic but a notable one is the fact that they are habitat generalists and can live in a large variety of oceanic conditions. Along with being habitat and ecosystem generalists they are also generalists in terms of the food that they eat. Along with being food generalists they also have a unique hunting technique where they “vacuum up” their
With a very slim frame it has much less water resistance allows to dive and swim with much less effort and energy. This will give it a lighter mass allowing it to also to move faster land as well while grazing. If the Hydrochoerus caudatus was slower on land it would make them easy prey for animals like boa constrictor or the florida panther
I wrote this hoping to get people more interested in one of the world’s most fascinating creatures, the bull shark. I hope this research helps you learn about their migration, eating habits and body features. In conclusion I hope to get more people to research bull sharks and learn more about how great of creatures they
Tales about Atlantic manta rays say they sometimes tow boats with their horns. These intimidating, giant creatures can weigh up to 3,000 pounds with a 20 foot wingspan. These gentle marine animals are the least dangerous and the largest of the manta ray species. Unlike their cousins, they spend most of their life swimming and flapping their wing-like fins at great speeds. When near the surface, they occasionally leap into the air, which is interesting. They eat plankton funneling it into their mouths with their horn-like fins. Because of their dark gray or black color and horns, the Atlantic manta ray is also known as the “devil ray”.
Their bodies are also shaped somewhat like a torpedo to give them a more streamlined affect in the in water. Yet, some types of sharks, the ocean dwellers have a flat body similar to that of skates and rays. Sharks can travel with great bursts of speed especially when attacking their prey or when excited. The fastest-swimming sharks have a moon-shaped tail that provides extra power and durability for swimming.
Are you looking for somewhere fun and exciting to host your next family reunion? A Potomac River cruise is an ideal setting for a gathering of your family. Lastly, I observed the famous snack bar at Eastern Point Beach. The snack bar, notorious for the food and the begging seagulls that surround the area, exists inside of a large clubhouse. The appearance of the clubhouse shocks all visitors; the three story building has an exterior stone wall on the first floor, a fireplace, and an attached gazebo. When I observed the snack bar at Eastern Point Beach I ordered food in order to get the true experience as a visitor. When searching for a place to eat, I noticed numerous picnic tables spread throughout the nice green lawn. According to Whyte, a public space “lacking chairs or tables for outdoor eating” (Whyte, 1980: 122) deters individuals. Therefore, the combination of benches and picnic tables
