Basketball is a mainstream sport that is popular with millions around the world. What happens when an organization takes that sport and adds in donkeys? Then you get the brand new sport called Donkey Basketball. A game was arranged last week and the initial results were quite a sight to see! Becky Amen is the brains behind the event and she organized everything from top to bottom. Her involvement allowed the creation of Donkey Basketball and she was truly excited to talk about the creation. The first game was played on March 20 and featured teams from Triad and Highland high schools. Teams made up of juniors, seniors and faculty members were put against each other on the court. Being six foot four means I get a lot of stares and attention when I walk down the street. Most people will look at me in astonishment and say things like “wow you’re tall!” or “how tall are you?” when they see me. But the question I get asked the most from random strangers is “Do you play basketball?” Depending on what kind of mood I’m in, I answer in one of two ways. In both ways I tell the person asking “no,” but my attitude while doing so differs. Most of the time I find this question rather annoying. Just because I’m tall doesn’t mean that I play basketball, nor have I ever. It’s a question that I’ve gotten practically my whole life, but anymore I tend to spend more time thinking about the bigger picture behind it.
“According anywhere from Australia to the United States and everywhere in between the game of basketball is played.” (Faurschou, “History of basketball”). Basketball became an official Olympic sport in the 1936 game.
A plethora of reasons exist as to why a certain sport might signal importance to a state, but in Indiana, the sport happens to standout on a whole different level. Current Southeast Dubois Superintendent, Rick Allen, commented on why Indiana high school basketball remains superior saying, “One reason Indiana high school basketball is such a standout of a sport in Indiana is because of the community support behind the team” (Allen 2). The era of basketball between 1911-present remains crucial today not only for the big schools’ gyms in Indiana, but also for small towns gyms such as Huntingburg, Loogootee, Tell City, Ferdinand, and numerous others.

So this game has been out for a very long period of time with many changing of the rules in basketball throughout the history. When it was first played in the late 1800s, there were different rules and even different looking basketball. As for the rules, originally there would be 10 people on the court but it first started with 18 people on the court which after couple of years it changed to only 10 people. Substitution was also different and the rule for this was at first no one can enter until the next game. “The rule was changed in 1920 to allow a player to re-enter the game one time. In 1934, the rule was expanded to allow players to re-enter the game twice, and, in 1945 the rule was finally changed to permit players to return to the game an unlimited number of times”(hooptactics.com). The first basketball looked very alike a football but round. The backboards were made out of straight wood and the baskets were made out of peach baskets or square boxes. There was only

James Naismith was just 30 working as an athletic coordinator for the University of Kansas when he was told that he had 30 days to invent a game for the soccer and football players to play and stay fit during the winter. The game couldn't contain as much physical contact as football and soccer because the coaches did not want their players getting injured before the season started. ‘The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'Drop the Handkerchief.’ And that is how one of the greatest games came to life.
The history of sports has come a long way as it developed throughout the centuries. It was where the foundation of sports was created. For example, in the Rome the chariot races were held. Today they have changed, whether it is new things being added or rules being edit; its foundation remains the same. The changes also have to do with the progress of our generation because it has changed the way we think and behave in the past and in the future. The history of sports and physical education will never stop changing. The changes will never stop because current events and upcoming events will have an impact on the current standards of sports and physical education. It is how history is made, when changes are made and shifting the

Can you believe that an injury at such a young age almost ended what is now considered my passion? That is the life of basketball a game I didn’t even image playing when I was younger. The game of basketball has helped to change my life for many reasons while allowing me to learn other life lessons. At the age of two I had an injury that change the way I walk but hasn’t affected the things I could do. When I first played the game of basketball I was treated in a bad way and made fun because of the way I walk. This criticism allowed me to prove to others that I can be good if not better than others. Ever since I started playing basketball it has become something that I’ve look forward to

In the early days of college basketball, most teams played less than 10 games, and some 15 or 16. That following year, the University of Minnesota would become the first undefeated team in basketball, by going 11 and 0. Early games always had problems with injuries. Fouling was in place, but there weren’t enough good refs back
Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training center started
