1. Describe your participation and accomplishments in the horse industry. Also, list how many years you have been involved, awards received and volunteer involvement. I have been riding horses ever since I could walk. I have a deep passion for them and I have always loved to ride. I am involved in many parts of the equine industry. I joined the local 4-H horse project in 3rd grade, which is the earliest you can join. I have now been in the CCHP 4-H for 9 years. I have been on the youth board of the project for the past 5 years. I barrel race frequently and I am a member of the NBHA- National Barrel Horse Association. In 2014, I was the WI State Finals Open 4D Champion. I have gone to State Hunt/Jump numerous times and have participated in State Gymkhana for 6 years. At State Gymkhana, I have won or gotten reserve champion in many classes and have almost always been in the top ten for every class. In a superficial society, one may be labeled by how they appear, but what lies inside them could be completely different. This is demonstrated in “Girl Who Loved her Horses,” by Drew Hayden Taylor. A young girl, Danielle, surprises the other children with a spectacular piece of art. Danielle, although seemingly shy and invisible, possesses a determination for drawing her horse, and inside, is full of strength and energy. Danielle is shy and introverted to the point that the other children hardly realize she exists.

Kurt Vonnegut is able to put a man’s face on war in his short story, “All the King’s Horse ”, and he exemplifies that in a time of war, the most forgotten effect on nations is the amount of innocent lives lost in meaningless battle due to unjust rulers fighting each other against a nation’s will. As Americans, we are oblivious to the fact that we have people fighting every day for our country. In addition, we ignore the fact that we do a lot of collateral damage and hurt innocent people unintentionally in order to get what we want. A sharp blade shines brightly when light reflects on it. With one stab, the blade could pierce through the body like paper. It takes one good stab to make a wound fatal. Betrayal acts as a knife; once the blade makes contact with flesh, the wound can never heal. It leaves a scar, a reminder of the pain. In All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy, John Grady finds himself in situations where people aim the knife towards him, especially when his mother abandoned him, Don Hector sent him to jail, and when Alejandra made an unforgivable promise in order to prove that no one can be trusted.

Many authors use different styles of writing and different ways to show different things and different types points of views. In the articles The Georges and the Jewels and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse, the authors are both using first person point of view, but using different ways to reveal the character traits. First, In The Georges and the Jewels, the person telling the story is a little girl and also she is talking about her experiences with horses, whereas in Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse, the article is being told by a horse, and the horse is telling about his life and about all the equipment that has to be used for him.

Kenneth’s mother Nell was very supportive to her son’s dreams and hopes of owning a colt. Joseph goes and takes a legend, and shows you that behind the legend of Crazy Horse that he was just a man, like the rest of us. But not only that, he shows us part of the way of the Lakota life during the life of Crazy Horse and how that had changed with the invasion of the whites.
