In ancient times there were many different things that were common to egyptians than what we do today. For example many pharaohs (egyptian rulers) were expected to be embalmed and mummified when they have passed. In our time today it is not expected for people to be embalmed and mummified. Also people believe in many mythological stories about many egyptian gods creating many things that couldn’t be explained at the time. Now we have many explanations for many of the gods who egyptians used to explain the world around us.

Ancient Egyptian civilizations believed heavily in the afterlife. To pay their way into the heavens, early Egyptians provided the deceased with an array of gold, jewelry and artistry. With the public aware of these sacred burial rituals, the practice of tomb raiding emerged. The theft of all the riches placed upon tombs of Egypt’s elite became common place with the civilizations lower class. Since then, there has been a resurgence of tomb raiding as of late in modern day Giza and Cairo. Although the premise remains the same, tomb raiding has taken a deeper social impact in the modern world.

Imagine for a moment you are in Ancient Egypt. The air is hot and dry, the wind blows stinging sand against your face, and you can hear the rushing of the Nile. Up the road from you is the marketplace where vendors sell their wares. People shout and run and argue and work, not the least bit aware that their own culture is helping to shape that of the rest of the world for thousands of years to come. The Egyptians were responsible for a variety of aspects of our modern life, from some of our sources of entertainment even down to aspects of our religion. They revolutionized science, architecture, and cosmetics, and helped set the stage for the advancement of civilizations for millennia to come. Essentially, the ancient Egyptians were significant to the history of the world and to our modern time because of their advances in technology, entertainment, and language.

When you think of Egypt most people think of the pyramids hieroglyphics and camels, not realizing that Egypt has made many contributions to the world’s everyday life. The People of Egypt have invented and created things in the art spectrum to the way a government is set up, to how we grow our crops and all of our mannerisms. For example without Egyptians I wouldn’t have been able to print this assignment out unless they did not invent ink and paper. We would not be able to keep track of dates and hours and minutes due to the fact that they invented the clock and the calendar. One thing we can blame them for but not take it on a personal account is that they invented geometry. Egyptians where the first to have a structured centralized government. Also they were the first to have primary and secondary education.

For the past few centuries, Egypt was ruled by foreigners that distributed wealth among their peers and made the indigenous people their subjects. During the Nineteenth century, Egypt was ruled by Mehmet Ali and his descendants. Mehmet Ali was a general sent by the Ottoman empire to expel Napoleon Bonaparte from Egypt. Due to the increase pressure on the Ottoman Empire by Russia from the North, Mehmet Ali parted ways and planned to build his own empire with military strength. Since then, the leaders of Egypt have sustain power on owning majority of vast land. The land is used for agriculture that produces revenue to support the army of Mehmet Ali. This land was distributed among the friends and families of the kings who ruled Egypt who strengthen throughout the century.
