In order to be a successful teacher it is important that one gets knowledge from an individual that is already teaching. For me, I chose to interview Ashley Branigan. Ashley teaches at Greenwood elementary school in River Falls Wisconsin. She is a third grade elementary school teacher in general studies. I did not know Ashley until I emailed her on the Greenwood school district website. From there, I found the grade level she teaches and we set up a day for me to interview her. I met her on Monday October fifth at 4:20pm in her classroom to discuss the questions with her and to learn more about what it is like to be an elementary school teacher.
Ashley Branigan chose to become a teacher due to her mother. Her mom was a teacher, which allowed Ashley to spend a lot of time in the classroom. She was able to help in the elementary and middle school building. Even though she grew up in River falls Wisconsin, she chose to attend UW La-Crosse because she wanted a chance in scenery and a bigger school to attend. Something that Ashley likes about teaching is that everyday is a new experience in her field. She never knows what the students will say and do. One of her students could say something that is very intelligent that Ashley could tell the students parents or the student could say something very funny, which makes the whole class laugh. One thing that Ashley dislikes about teaching is the fact that she cannot control the home life of the students. For example, if one of the
While attending South Elementary School in Marshall, Illinois, I have learned a lot about the daily life of working within a school from interviewing two different teachers. I have never realized how much work goes into being a teacher no matter the grade being taught. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to participate within this program and getting to talk to these teachers. It has made me realize even more that I have chosen the right career path for myself.
I choose to interview Emily over some of the other teachers that I know, because I feel like I could relate to her a little better than those that have been teaching for many years. Being that this is her first year of teaching I felt like some of the things that she is encountering, would probably be things that I encounter as well, being that hopefully in a few years I will also be a first year teacher.
An effective teacher is someone who increases the understanding of a pupil. Effective teaching is the ability of providing instructions to students of varying abilities while incorporating instructional objectives and assessing the effective education form of students. In the evaluation of performance, efficiency on the lesson plan and technique of delivery forms form part of the criteria taken into consideration. The teacher's practices that ensure the higher level of assessment and active participation are most successful. This outdo all the factors, such as size of the class, socioeconomic conditions and gender (Sullivan 2001). The most significant aspect that gears a student to perform well is the teachers details of classroom practices as demonstrated in one of the video links "Pre-primary: Science -> Mini Beasts". They must have sufficient familiarity with the techniques and methods associated with their career and must certify that the pupil learning must develop over the course of the year (Sullivan 2001).
A passion for teaching and a love of kids are essential attributes for being a great teacher. Outstanding teachers have an engaging teaching style and a passion for the subject matter. Children deserve to have a teacher who genuinely enjoys the time spent in the classroom and strives to inspire them in their formative years. Great teachers are positive role models who build trusting relationships with their students and can instill an interest in learning, self-improvement and intellectual development. A good work ethic and a desire to strive for excellence is critical to be successful.
I learned a lot from the teacher that I was interviewing. She goes to conferences that are not required by her school. She does many hours of professional development each year even though she has been teaching for many years. A lot of the professional development she attends is during the summer. She is a high
I believe an outstanding teacher must differentiate, have good behavior management skills, content knowledge, collaboration, and passion. Teachers need to have the ability to understand students and their abilities. By doing this, teachers will be able to deliver lessons based on their abilities. Managing behavior is no easy task; you need to create a safe and welcoming environment for the students to feel like they are part of the classroom. Teachers need to be able to deliver content in a way students will be able to comprehend no matter what level they might be at. An outstanding teacher always plans before delivering a lesson, strives to improve, and uses many different strategies to teach. Collaboration is key to growing as a first
Teachers are important because they educate the students by preparing them for a triumphant future. The number of human beings in the world is increasing every second of every day which is why it is not a surprise that teachers other than special education teachers hold about three point five million jobs (McKay, Dawn R.). As each child grows older, he/she needs to learn in order to survive; teachers are the ones to instill knowledge (DeRoy). Every single person needs an education. To start most careers, a college degree is required. In order to get that college degree, an individual must complete grade school and high school and receive a high school diploma or GED, then complete college courses to learn the
On Tuesday October 3rd my fellow classmates and I had another opportunity to interview a teacher. However, this time the interview went a little different than the first one.The teacher who we interviewed not only has taught students for many years but he has also been able to see other areas besides teaching. This has led him to appreciate the teaching profession a lot more. Mr Gibson, whose parents were farmers grew up in the Bronx of New York. He is a licensed lawyer who worked in the field for 20 years. After retiring from working as a lawyer Mr Gibson decided that going back to teaching would be best for him. So, that's what he did. Mr Gibson is experienced teaching in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and even special ed classes.
When I found out we got to interview a teacher my mind did not even wonder who the teacher was going to be. I knew I wanted to interview Lisa Cady because she is an outstanding teacher. While in her class I learned and grew into the person I am today. Knowing that she has many years of experience I found it fitting to get information out of her. I know she has a very honest opinion and would give me real life examples and situation I might one day be in. Lisa Cady tells me the pros and the cons of the field of education. She never tries to push me towards another major but she always lets me know what I am getting myself into. Lisa Cady is the definition of a great teacher and I was intrigued by what she would responded to all
In today’s classroom, the role of teacher’s is particularly complex, given the increasing educational needs of the diverse students attending. According to Ellis (2005), over the past 20 years classrooms in Australia have undergone significant transformations, with regard to changes in grading and streaming of students. This has lead to the diminishing of streaming and grading students into classes and groups solely based on their ability levels, resulting in classes of diverse ability that encompass extensive physical, intellectual, cultural and behavioural differences (Ellis, 2005). This diversity heightens the need for inclusionary practices, in addition to instructional strategies, in order to meet the compelling needs of a full range of student’s attending schools (Council for Exceptional Children, 2005). According to Shaddock, MacDonald, Hook, Giorcelli and Arthur-Kelly (2009), inclusionary practices should be adopted if or when learning becomes an issue for any student who might experience barriers to learning and participation; whether arising from disability, gender, behaviour, poverty, culture, status or any other reason. Inclusive approaches to teaching and learning should emphasize the creation of instructional environments that expand mainstream thinking, structures and practices, which promote educational success and a sense of belonging for all students. One approach that attempts to accommodate all students in an inclusive and diverse manner is that called
Have you ever had a teacher that you really loved, and looked up to your whole life? This would be the goal for all teacher to make an impact in a student's life, and be able to say that a student looks up to them. Being a great teacher includes many aspects used in everyday life. Upon these aspects included in this paper, I will be explaining what a great teacher means to me along with an example of who that person may be.
In Panerai et al. (2009) study researchers compared three educational approaches to treating ASD over the course of three years – TEACCH implement in a residential program (R-TEACCH), TEACCH implemented in a natural setting (NS-TEACCH), and a nonspecific approach in mainstream schools with inclusive education. While previous research has shown TEACCH to be an effective treatment, Panerai et al. aimed to also evaluate the effectiveness of TEACCH in various settings. They hypothesized that treatment through TEACCH will prove more effective, regardless of the setting, than an inclusive program not specifically designed for children with ASD. Participants were 34 males with ASD and severe mental retardation (sMR). These participants all came
I was fortunate to be working with a student willing and eager to learn new skills. She gave her consent to take part in the teaching session, however in keeping with NMC (2008) guidelines I respect the importance to protect her anonymity when disclosing information to a third party. With this in mind I will refer to her throughout the assignment as ‘Ann’. During our initial meeting Ann appeared extremely enthusiastic to learn, and despite having just entering the third year of her training, she seemed knowledgeable in many significant areas of nursing. Ann’s enthusiasm had a direct impact on my desires to become a good mentor. Welsh and Swann (2002) have drawn on the importance of this meeting, arguing that it provides the teacher with a background knowledge of the student’s current level of understanding and allows them to appreciate student’s learning style before planning how and what to teach. If a teaching session is to be entirely facilitative, this meeting can be used to determine specific learning outcomes related to the topic as identified by Neary (2000). A learning outcome, as defined by Neary (2000), is what a student should know, understand and be able to do following a period of learning. Hinchliff (1999) suggests that learning outcomes should be ‘SMART’. This stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed. I quite like this style and used it for developing learning objectives for my teaching session.
As I got the opportunity to interview a teacher with 10 years or more experience it really showed me how Education has evolved. I ended up asking an old teacher of mine from my 9th grade center. His name was Mr. Birdy, and he was my 9th grade History teacher. We had a nice relationship as I excelled in his class. He accepted my request to interview him and we did it over the phone. He told me that he has been teaching for 15 years already, and he enjoys every minute of it.
Effective teaching is when a teacher is able to teach to the best interest of his students. Effective teachers should have an outstanding knowledge of the contents they are teaching, they should be able to explain the contents in extensive details and be able to teach it using different strategies to enhance student’s interest and learning. Effective teachers should trust their students and understand how each student thinks and how they all have a different perspective of the world. Effective teachers should have a positive assumption for student success. They should believe that all students are capable to assess higher forms of thinking and learning if they are given appropriate, differentiated instruction and guidance. Teachers should create an environment that supports individual and collaborative learning; enhance positive social interactions and self- motivation.
