Over the past 100 years, Providence College has been dedicated to bettering society as a whole through education and Friar ideals. Using Dominican Friar ideologies as an outline for success, I will not only continue the momentum, I will strive to accelerate it. The Dominicans recognize the macro environment in education has a multiplier effect. The commitment to education and bettering other individuals helps society more so than just one person. If I do get the chance to attend Providence College, I will continue what I started in High School. In High School I sought to educate my friends and even my teachers about the importance of investing early, and often. I started an investment club to help facilitate this. As a result of helping others,
The most common questions in a high schooler's life is “ where are you going for college” or “do you plan on going to college?” in my case I answered yes and said Meramec. I am going to Meramec Community College for multiple reasons, I am not the only child in the family so that means my parents have to pay for two other kids as well, so tuition at a four year college would be to much for them to pay. I also decided to attend Meramec so that I could help out with taking my siblings to school instead of having my dad taking them every morning and only getting a couple of hours of sleep. Being Hispanic and coming from a background where school is very important, I need to try harder and be someone in life and not be that guy who doesn't have any money or a career while living in my parents basement, I want to be able to provide for myself and my future family.
Approaching the end of senior year everyone was receiving acceptance letters to all well credited schools, like Rutgers, The College of New Jersey, Fordham, and many others, but there were some people, like me, who were opening letter from community colleges to attend. I quickly realized that I did not take high school seriously and was lackadaisical with my studies, causing my grades to suffer, ultimately leaving me no choice, but to go to community college. In hindsight, going to community college was not a regretful decision, and it has shaped me into the person I am now. People from all sorts of life come to community college for many different reasons, mainly similar to mine, to redeem their high school-self and get better grades.
Piedmont College is a college that I'm interested in because I find it to be a school that is one of the best. Attending Piedmont would allow me to obtain a college diploma which would allow me to find a job that suited my intended degree. Along with the academics that Piedmonts provides its location is another key feature that makes me interested in the school. While at Piedmont College I would be able to have the whole of north Georgia open to my hiking wants and needs, the mountains provide a sense of beauty to the school at can be admired. School room sizes is also another reason that I am interested in Piedmont College is the student to teacher ratio. I believe that due to this size, I would be able to learn more effectively and get to
Througout my academic career, I have learned as much about myself as I have learned in school, whether it be from high school, to community college, and my journey that lead me to Arizona State University. I can honestly say as my parents did, that I wish I would’ve tried harder in high school. I scraped by taking the easiest classes possible and choosing to take the easy way out. Looking at my transcript makes me cringe, because I know that I am capable of so much more. I wish that I would’ve taken the honor classes and tried so that I would’ve been able to apply to a college other than a community college. My time at Mohave Community College was a significant improvement from my experience in high school. Not only did I graduate with near honors (3.49), I had made the Dean’s list and Honors List for three out of my four semesters, the first time this had happened since middle school. I had never felt more motivated and focused in my life. I was taking 16 credits and prospering and had a balance of work, school, and a social life. I had never felt more proud of my self in my life. As I sit here and write this paper, I question my time here at ASU as I try to plan the nex chapter of my life. I wonder where I am supposed to go and what I am supposed to do.School for the first time had become a priority, however, it began to consume my life. I would spend hours and hours on end doing homework and studying, and although there seems to be nothing wrong with this, I wouldn’t go
In summer 2010, I was not able to complete my classes due to difficult circumstances that arose and due to getting more than one F, it affected my academic standing in Houston Community College and I was put on probation. I had difficulties still arise after this, but was able to overcome them, raise my grades tremendously and graduate with honors.
The location of Rush is one of the factors that interest me. Being born in the suburbs I have only heard stories about Chicago. I believe the lack of education and a history of abuse from health care professions leaves the poor community in a destructive cycle. Attending Rush gives me passage into the poor communities to make an honest difference.
Without the strong Christian values upheld by Messiah College, it becomes incredibly difficult to walk the narrow road of Christianity during college. As a newly independent young adult, there is a constant stream of tough decisions to make in college. The dependence on classmates and friends increases throughout college, and I want to attend Messiah to surround myself with good influences and other people who share the same beliefs and principles that I wish to uphold in my own life. Non-Christian colleges cannot compete with the welcoming religious atmosphere that Messiah has to offer. Messiah College will be an excellent way to extend my faith into my education and learn how to bring Christ more into my life.
In every nation, education has an important influence on the improvement of its economy and politics. For the United States of American, community college becomes one of the main factors to determine how the country moves forward. Using table 101.20 from Digest of Education Statistics of the National center for Education Statistics, from 2000 to 2014, the increase in college enrollment has been contributed by increases in the traditional college-age population and rising enrollment rates. But increasing costs of tuition and different expenses each year have become huge obstacles for students to focus and maintain their education status and achievements. This issue brings up the controversy about whether community college education should
Of the many reasons a Jesuit education appeals to me, the most predominant reason is rooted in my belief that an education based on character formation and living meaningfully will guide my intellectual and personal growth during college. Throughout my life, many experiences that I have endured have shaped my character and constructed my personal goals and academic interests for my potential attendance at Boston College.
Providence College is a liberal arts college, which consists of roughly four thousand undergraduate students, located in Providence, Rhode Island. One of the staples of the college has been the ability to live off-campus on Eaton Street starting in a student’s junior year. The attraction stems from most of the party scene on the weekends being at these houses on the streets bordering the campus. However, starting in the Fall of 2017, the school is implicating a new policy that juniors are required to live on campus. While the school is attempting to reduce disturbances in the surrounding community caused by partying college students, this housing restriction is only going to cause further issues for Providence College, its students, and
Today’s generation is technology reliant. People think that their life is incomplete without technology. No one could stay away from their phones for a second. People get frustrated when they get weak Wi-Fi signals and this frustration could create a big negative affect in their lives. There are many students who get low grades due to weak Wi-Fi signals. It is shocking, but it is true. Edmonds Community College is a really old and respected college, but a black spot on this college is bad internet. Edmonds Community College’s website states that they got free Wi-Fi for students, but it does not states that how bad it works. Classes in Edmonds Community College mainly rely on Canvas which is a website for students. This website is important
Most companies in today’s world want to make money in a way or another. The pursuit of this goal is what define average companies and great companies. In a study, done by a group of Iowa State professors, evidence was found for the Putnam thesis that companies that rely on the community that became rich was because they were civic and not the other way around (Kilkenny, Nalbarte, Besser, p231 1999). Grand Canyon University (GCU) has used this concept a lot, but there is a new avenue that GCU must follow to continue its success. GCU’s Canyon Christian Schools Consortium (CCSC) program was built on this great concept of students being involved in the community. Yet this program has devolved because of the basic law of diminishing returns. Thus GCU should add a CCSC option that is service in the central Phoenix community because helping this community will improve the school’s image and will help the students in achieving GCU’s goal for leaders while fixing the CCSC program’s numbers overflow problem.
Many of my friends will tell you I have a story for everything. They will also tell you that it was a mistake for me to go to community college. They are very narrow minded when it comes to the idea of what community college. They believed the stereotypes that it is easier and for uneducated people. But that is not completely true, therefore I ignore them. I may be the one who goes to the community college, but my best friend who is away at a university still calls me for homework help. I have a story for everything and am very talkative, resulting in English being my favorite subject.
Isaac Newton’s third law states that “To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction.” Not only can this statement be applied to the sciences, but also to how we behave on a daily basis. Russel Conwell’s claim in his speech “Acres of Diamonds” that poor people make themselves poor and rich people make themselves rich defends the belief that we are responsible for our own success. This means that even if you come from an impoverished background you can change your situation for the better and fulfill your potential by leading a “rich” life. I agree with Conwell’s proposition that you are in charge of your own destiny. When you look at his speech and Temple current six commitments upheld by Richard M. Englert, the university’s president, you can find many connections. But along with these similarities, there are also points that have changed and evolved to suit the needs of the current student. As we break down the six commitments, it is clear that the founder’s initial desires and the present day goals of the university are brought together to create Temple’s mission statement.
It is at Providence that I have learned to differentiate between right and wrong, the skill to manage my conflicts, the ability to modify my behavior, respect my elders and friends, be kind, compassionate, forgiving and good hearted. Providence's top priority —not just a slogan on the website — is to learn about and support each student’s interests. Finding ways on how to create a school that’s not just academic but intellectual.
