Academic, when defined as a noun, refers to liberal, theoretical, or general education that is taught in schools, institutions, and universities. These academic studies do not delve into vocational education which teaches a craft or a trade to those who need it for training in their careers or for daily life skills. Co-curricular (can be interchanged with “Extra-curricular”) pertains to programs and activities that allow people to go through a learning experience. They are there as a complement to or an extension of a student’s academic course and usually stray away from the traditional way of learning. Co-curricular activities are often seen as a “break” from schoolwork due to it often being ungraded, done outside school hours, and is most of the time not organized by the school all together. These include activities such as training to be a musician or an artist, preparing for debate competitions or marketing contests, and being a part of the school publication as said in an online glossary made by the Great Schools Partnership (Edglossary.org n.p.). Co-curricular activities should be given more focus and importance in a college student’s life rather than academics because it teaches them the value of time management, how to balance, how to be well-rounded and it let’s students interact with different kinds of people thus enhancing their social skills. It also allows them to gain life experience and learn through action instead of a lecture in a classroom and lastly,
Teaching is not merely about methods used and material presented in the classroom, but about shaping students’ lives to help them construct a firm foundation for a successful future. I desire to teach my students basic life skills as well as challenge them to set and reach their highest goals.
The arts. On the Western Slope of Colorado, most public high schools don’t offer fabulous art programs, and that is okay. But the teachers hired should at least have an understanding of the money offered for their programs. I am tired of having to teach myself music because our music teachers are spread so thin that they can’t teach both the idiots and the talented kids who need to be challenged.
The main courses that we are taught throughout elementary and high school are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. While those subjects are important, not everyone will use those studies throughout their lifetime, whereas if they taught subjects like balancing a checkbook, how to fill out job applications and write a resume, how to do an interview, first aid, and so many other skills, everyone would carry that with them and find that information useful after they get out of high school.
With a regular schedule for all these students, everyone is expected to simply do the work at home, and come back to school to turn it in and receive more and do the same process over and over. But when there are other activities a child can be involved in, it makes routines have a slight change. Especially if these certain “activities” are being a requirement and not just an option because there are always students who never try new activities and miss out on opportunities. Therefore, students should be offered extracurricular activities in their schools because it gains skills and builds pride to be successful academically in Anaheim. In the documentary, “Mad Hot Ballroom” the director, Marilyn Agrelo, states that “the kids that are
It is often said that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. As true as that is you can still try to make the water look as delicious and rewarding to drink form as possible so the horse will actually want to drink it. Same thing with students, as principle I would make working hard, getting good grades, maintaining good behavior and staying on task look as rewarding as possible. This motivates the students to be and do better, ultimately leading to self-motivation which is what every person should have within themselves to be successful and determined. As principle I would come up with more original fun things like trips, activities and rewards to motivate the students to want to do more. Simple things like that mean a lot to students and make going to school more fun and rewarding. I would make ways to recognize the achievements of student who are doing well so as they feel recognized they want to keep up their good works. Things like PBIS bucks were a great idea but were never enforced and was simply empty motivation that we couldn’t do anything with, I would change that
The main thing this school would focus on in our students is a career based education. Having this kind of education would benefit greatly because once they finish school, they will know what they want to do and how to do it. According to The Lincoln Journal Star, people and different organizations are starting to agree that offering a student's education based on what they want their career to be will be successful (Reist, 2012). This just proves that having this kind of education would be beneficial! Another reason my school would have this is because the students would be in classes with fellow students who share that career interests. By doing this it will help the students get used to working with the kinds of people they might work with after school. Symonds from the Lincoln Journal Star said, “This isn’t a call for radical reform, it’s a call for a common-sense reform” (Reist,
For me, the core curriculum is a perfect starting point. Its emphasis on an all-round education means that my time at the university will be the one of an adventurer. I will get the opportunity to dive into new realms and cultivate skills that I don`t presently know even exists. I do not just want to go to class and talk about a couple of topics and walk out only for the sake of putting it to words for the examinations or the assignments. I want the classes to mean something to me decades after my graduation. I want to remember my classes at the university with fond nostalgia, happy at the fact that the core curriculum taught me why seemingly dull pieces of artwork earn millions of
Students will be competent bilinguals in ASL and English. Students will achieve their academic and career goals. Students will be independent critical thinkers committed to lifelong learning. Students will contribute to their community as advocates for rights and social justice. Students will be literate and responsible in the use of technology.
Common reading programs merge the curricular and cocurricular components of college and reinforce the message that learning occurs both inside and outside the classroom.*
connecting them with life outside the school to enable a search for personal meaning, socioeconomic advancement and critical understanding of work and society.
“Continuing Education Success”, personally I never even thought about this nor about setting educational goals for myself, like obtaining a bachelors in criminal justice to achieve a good paying job. In this class I learned how important it is to make my education a priority so I do not get sidetracked by other things that are also important in my life.
Firstly, I would love to be able to make a difference in student’s lives most
Life begins with lessons. People start learning from a very young age and keep learning new things through their lives. We spend a large chunk of our lives in schools and colleges to learn, to educate ourselves, and to achieve our goals. People, nowadays, want to be important among others, and think themselves as the center of the world. They care about themselves instead of caring about others, or helping others. Brotherhood in our society is decreasing due to lack of communication between people around us. People should be taught on how to be a good person, a good citizen, and a personal best of their own. It is possible to get these qualities in people by simply starting to teach the students because they will be the future of the country.
To be given such a wonderful opportunity, which would be given to fulfill the passions to desire. As autonomy clearly states would in my opinion be a great learning ground for students to focus on their passions. One passion a person could choose under free will if they’re focused and determined enough to handle the pressure of free choice.
Everyone knows about co-curricular. What some of us don’t know about curriculum is that curriculum is as a body of knowledge to be transmitted, it is also as an attempt to achieve certain ends in students – product, plus it is as a process and it is as praxis(Mark K. Smith 1996, 2000). It gave many benefits to a wide range of students and it may help them in many ways. It is also a part of education where it is held outdoors or indoors. Co-curricular activities are optional and pursued outside the classroom to enrich the course syllabi. They are meant to complement and not interfere with the studies. Some say that it is does intervene with studies but there are many researches which state the benefits
