During freshman year college study project, I had picked three colleges that offered courses for a variety of the careers that I was interested in at the time. The three colleges that I had picked were the University of Colorado Boulder, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Oxford University. I have remained interested in both the University of Colorado Boulder and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as they offer world class aerospace engineering programs, which is the career that I hope to pursue throughout college. Additionally, the University of Colorado Boulder offers in-state tuition, which can greatly help reduce the cost of tuition. However, I have since lost interest in Oxford University. I had originally picked this …show more content…
Finally, Georgia Tech is the second most competitive of the three schools. Incoming students have an average GPA of 3.98, SAT score of 1450, and ACT score of 32. Georgia Tech’s required high school classes are four credits of english, math, and science, three credits of social sciences, and two credits of a foreign language (“Georgia Tech Requirements…”). I am currently still on track to meet all of the requirements for each of the schools, with the things that I need to work on the most being my GPA and the SAT and ACT tests. If I continue to study and do good in my classes, then I should be able to meet all of the requirements. In relation to the SAT and ACT tests, all three of the schools superscore the tests, which could end up being very helpful in getting my scores to reach or surpass the average scores from each of the schools. The biggest difference between the three schools is the average annual cost of attending each school. Given that I live in Colorado, I will be able to pay the in-state tuition rates for CU Boulder, which puts the annual price at around $31,000 (“CU Boulder Bursar’s…”). The annual cost for MIT will be around $67,000 (“Cost & Aid Basics”), and the annual cost for Georgia Tech is $48,500 (“Cost of Attendance…”). The cost of each school is very expensive, and may even
Last but not least, Texas A&M has a really great cost and financial aid program for students. The In-state tuition and fees were about 10,176 dollars while out-of-state tuition and fees were about 28,768 dollars. If I was an In-state student, this would have been a great opportunity not only because of the students life and academics but also because of the tuition fees. However since I am not an In-state student, the cost is pretty expensive.
At some point in the process of choosing a college, you may have to choose a college major, or at the very least begin to narrow your options. While being undecided for awhile is fine, you probably want to have some idea of what you want to do when you start the college application process. You want to make sure you make the right college choice, and there’s nothing worse than finding your dream school only to realize it doesn’t offer the major you’ve ultimately chosen. Even though you know you can’t put it off forever, choosing your major can be tough.
As a senior in high school the time has come when people begin to ask big and sometimes overwhelming questions like, “Where are you going to college?” and “What will be your major?” These questions, of course, lead to college visits and decisions. The two colleges that seem to meet my criteria are The University of Findlay and Ohio Dominican University. Both colleges have positive aspects, such as having the major that I am interested in as well as being close to family. However, The University of Findlay seems to be a better fit than Ohio Dominican because it is closer to home and I am familiar with the campus and I grew up on this campus.
The average ACT score to be accepted to UGA ranges from 26-31 (“Compare Colleges”), and the average at Vanderbilt ranges from 32-35 (“Compare Colleges”). My ACT composite score is 31, but I have only taken it once and plan to raise my score. I believe that I will have an ACT score within or above the ranges for both UGA and Vanderbilt. In addition to looking at ACT scores, UGA and Vanderbilt look at GPA, course rigor, and a holistic view of the student to determine admission (“Applying to Vanderbilt”; “First-Year Applicants”). My cumulative high school GPA is 4.41 and by the end of my junior year I will have taken six AP classes, so I feel that I will have a good chance of being accepted at both of these colleges.
Making the final college choice is a difficult decision for a student and his or her family. The final decision needs to be a balance between value and opportunity. I want to get the best opportunity for the best deal. This could be a better academic program in my major, more rigorous academics overall, a better location, internships, and a safer campus.
Many people go to college to get a further education to get the job they always dreamed of. However, deciding where to go can be tricky. Sometimes others' opinions may persuade you to decide to attend the college they want you to attend. Or the pressure of a loved one makes you decide to attend elsewhere. Perhaps though it’s the cost, but its possible to attend if you truly put your effort in. Regardless of the distance, pressure and cost, I believe you should go to the college you want.
It will be hard to know which college is the best for what I am wanting to achieve. This relates to "The Odyssey" when Odysseus has to make the difficult decision between going through Scylla or Charybdis. Odysseus said, “Better to mourn six men than lose them all” and he chose to face Scylla instead of Charybdis. I will have to choose the right college like Odysseus had to choose which monster he wanted to face. He doesn’t know if it is the right decision.
Georgia Tech is an amazingly expensive school, that charges $53,982.50! It is truly an astoundingly large sum of money. When I showed my family how much that it would cost to fully pay for college, they were shocked and astounded at how mush it would cost to put me through college. In order to pay for it, I will need to apply for scholarships and grants. The first scholarship that I am going to apply for is the GodBold Family Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship will pay for 100% of my financial needs. The cache in that I have to maintain a 1500 on my SAT score. Next, I will apply for the Zell Miller Scholarship. For this, I need to have a 3.7 GPA, and a SAT score of 1200 or an ACT score of 26. This will pay out $9,812. The next one that I will apply to is the MSE Scholarship Program. For this, I must be enrolled in a material science program or engineering program and have a 2.7 GPA. This program gives out $1,500 per semester. In order to reap the benefits (or even be taken into consideration) of the scholarships, I must apply for them, at the latest, February 15th. The scholarships will allow me to almost pay for all of my college funding, but for an extra bit of reassurance, I will also get some amount of money from my parents and the money that I have saved for college. With all of this information done, I could potentially apply and go to
The University of Montevallo located in Montevallo, Alabama has fairly cheap prices when compared to other universities. For tuition and fees, not including room and board, costs $24,410 per year for out of state students. This is fairly cheap compared to other schools whose out of state tuition is $30k+ per year. In-state tuition costs $12,140 per year for tuition and fees. One of the highest selling points for me for Montevallo has the opportunity to have in-state tuition if I get a 3.0 GPA and a 23 on the ACT. This would save me a lot of money, making college cheaper than even some colleges in Colorado. The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia is more expensive when it comes to out of state tuition. It costs $29,844 per year compared to Montevallo’s $24,410 per year. In-state tuition is $11,634 per year which is around $500 less than Montevallo. However, UGA does not offer as many opportunities to save money like
When I first applied to Iowa State University, I was originally planning on attending the University of Illinois, and Iowa State was my backup school. Two days after I applied to Iowa State, I was accepted. Once I told my friends, family, and mentors about my acceptance, I was told nothing but good things. The reputation that Iowa State has established for itself is one of the best. Even one of my small group leaders at church who graduated from University of Iowa, conceded that Iowa State has an exceptional engineering program. At that point I started to do research about ISU, and through research I discovered that Iowa State is ranked within the top 25 engineering programs in the nation. That’s when I took a look at the majors that Iowa State has available and decided on majoring in software engineering. I have always been interested in computers, but never knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, therefore, majoring in software engineering was a natural choice. I would be studying what I love in one of the
The collages that I am looking at are to be as followed, my top choice is Bay Path University, the backup collage for bay path is Quinsigamond Community College, my secondary choice is Mount Ida collage, and the back up college for Mount Ida is Becker collage. The reason why I say that quinsigamond is my back up collage for Bay Path and Becker back up collage for Mount Ida is simple to explain. I want to go to Mount Ida and then go to Bay Path and if I don’t get accepted into those collages or only into one of them and not the other, I still have those other collages that I can apply for and/or go to.
In the first place, the tuition of each university is significant when deciding which one is the best university. Initially, MIT has a higher tuition than Caltech, but after financial aid is taken into account, the fees lower substantially. According to Laura Bridgestock, an editor of TopUniversities website, the “annual tuition fees for undergraduates are $46,704” at MIT. Although this is exceeding Caltech’s “annual tuition fees for undergraduates” of “$45,846,” MIT offers an abundant amount of financial aid (Bridgestock). This financial aid of MIT’s, which “91% of its undergraduates receive,” is far greater than Caltech’s, which “almost 60% of undergraduates receive” (Bridgestock). Not only do undergraduates receive more financial aid at MIT, but as Laura Bridgestock reports, “the average scholarship” amounts “to
Once I received my results from the different colleges I have applied to, I was presented with many options. The easiest and most apparent choice my parents saw for me was to attend a university in my home state of Colorado, like the University of Colorado Boulder or Colorado State University. Both schools are excellent and open a door to different opportunities, but I want to challenge myself.
College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a thought in the back of my brain. It’s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that’s what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that university out of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships
Oxford University is one of the oldest Universities in existence. It is located in Oxford England about 50 miles northwest of London and is the oldest University in England. Oxford University is important because it is vital to not just people in England, but to the whole world at large. It has been first and foremost in setting standards for teaching and learning. Oxford has been known for exceptional communication skills which were needed in trade between countries and smaller entities for universal progress among people. What can I say then, Oxford University helped lead the way to progressiveness internationally and continuing to stand tall amongst the greatest and the best known of its kind. Oxford is a university to be reckoned with .
