What is important and why do students go to school? I believe students that attend a school or institution gain education. Education is important and is a process of gaining information about the surrounding world. It allows us to build opinions from the facts that we are taught and interpret things that it is being used in everyday life. An important factor that has a huge impact on establishing education is communication. Over the years, Communication has evolved and changed which allowed there to be many different communication models. The Shannon-Weaver, The Berlo, and The Integrated Communication models are just a few models that help display how we communicate today.
The best communication model that best displays how we should communicate today would be The Integrated Communication model. When a person is communicating they should first start with communicating principles. Communicating principles are being a great listener, demonstrate understanding, speak in a clear effective manner, and sometimes we can use non-verbal methods. When a teacher is communicating, they are speaking with students, parents, school, and other teachers.
Teachers set the tone for their classrooms. They do so by speaking, body language, and their actions. They communicate with students the most. Teachers help students learn through receptive and expressive communication. They explain things clearly, respectfully and in different ways, so that every student understands. Students have different
When two people decide to get married and spend the rest of their lives together, they don’t plan on their past individual experiences getting in the way of their happiness as a couple. Research has shown that when the couple finds themselves in an unhappy marital relationship, they find themselves contemplating divorce because they lack the proper tools for effective communication (Buehlman, Gottman, & Katz, 1992). Effective communication learned in the early years of marriage will build a stable, healthy, and active union, which involves keeping alive feelings that brought the couple together in the first place (Honeycutt, 1999). Studies conducted on this topic (Driver & Gottman, 2004) determined that effective communication and interaction play a part in how couples detour from the dirt road of divorce and get back on the highway of happily ever after.
Some people do not understand the importance of communication. Being able to communicate effectively, is the most important life skill a person can use. From the time we are born, how fast we learn and the things we learn come from our family. Communication is defined as “The exchange of information or knowledge, as by speech, signals, writing, or non-verbal communication.” Bryan Golden says, “To be understood you must first understand.” Everyone seems so desperate to be understood, they forget to understand. Often people walk away from conversations not fully understanding what the person said or meant. Simple miscommunication can cause big problems in relationships, work, or life at home. A person’s body language, facial expressions, volume,
“The quality of your communication is the quality of your life”-Tony Robbins. How motivating. It should be because Tony Robbins is a very famous and successful motivational speaker. This quote couldn’t be more true. Good communicators have a very successful life and in order to master communication, one must understand communication theory. According to the text, Introducing Communication Theory Analysis and Application, communication is defined as “a social process in which individuals employ symbols to establish and interpret meaning in their environment”. There are many different definitions of communication, but all communication definitions explain the process of transmitting information, the framework of the information, and the effects of that information. Understanding communication theory can be very rewarding and very beneficial to people’s personal and professional lives. It can help with public speaking, interviews, relationships, and so much more. The world is always changing, which means communication is too. Taking a communication theory class helps students make sense of the world around us, express our wants, needs and desires to others in an appropriate manner.

A teacher is one who nurtures her students and guides them to deep understanding of the world around them. As a teacher, I want to help the whole child grow and build a foundation for future learning. Children are the future and it is my job to prepare them for the real world.
Before taking this course, I knew that good communication will be important for me as a business professional, but after taking this course I determined that effective communication is not only important as a business professional but necessary in any workplace. Through the Wisdom Project interview and lectures I have gained knowledge that I will be able to transfer into the business world.
It is obvious how crucial a mutual language is needed within our everyday lives. There are many ways in which language barriers have affected our society by creating conflict with communication in healthcare, leading to less people attending clinics/hospitals, and leading to an increase of people with drug complications.
Good communication is a key tool that every member within the NHS must have and should be willing to improve. This is because most jobs and roles will involve patient interaction on a daily basis. Good and effective communication will not only make it easier for service users to follow instructions such as how and when to take medication but will also make their experience a positive one which helps with the overall goal of delivering a quality service.
Communicative competence identifies other factors of effective communication like Discourse competence, where language is altered to fit the sociocultural environment, and strategic competence involving identifying the best modality to use and using techniques like repeating back a question you have been asked to allow yourself time to think (Celce-Murcia, 1995), which provide a more practical application for students.
Deaf and hard of hearing (HH) patients often experience difficulty in communicating and understanding medication information provided by pharmacists due to communication barriers. They tend to nod “yes” and pretend to have understood pharmacists’ explanations and thus do not ask them to repeat their statements (Ferguson & Liu, 2015 ; Ralston, Zazove, & Gorenflo, 1996). It was reported that only 30% of pharmacists feel comfortable interacting with deaf patients (Ferguson and Shan). Inadequate communication in medical settings and a lack of understanding about medication can lead to misdiagnosis and misunderstandings. Therefore, it is crucial for pharmacists to check that deaf patients understand how to take their prescribed medicines and are aware of any adverse events to ensure a safe and effective healthcare (Ferguson & Shan, in press).
The Massachusetts department of education states, “The Nurse of the Future will identify, evaluate, and use the best current evidence coupled with clinical expertise and consideration of patients’ preferences, experience and values to make practice decisions.” (pg. 47) Everyday new recommendations are publicized and the professional nurse has a responsibility to remain educated on contemporary practice. Evidenced-based practice makes a significant difference in the care of our patients. While working with patients the nurse experiences frequent conflict with nursing care issues, however solutions are not easily obtained. There are reoccurring incidences where nurses question the intervention they are implementing or medications they are administering. When this happens, nurses use personal judgement from their own experience or advice to determine solutions. Experience, culture, and patient preference should always be considered, but nurses need to be proficient in researching the most current EBP and implementing it when necessary. Many times, as a nurse I have questioned interventions and even discussed better options with coworkers. One nursing care issue that has affected my patient’s care is the language barrier with the large number of non-English speaking patients in my community. “Effective communication is at the core of person-centered care. In situations where patients and doctors do not share language or culture even basic communication can become problematic,
The famous physicist Albert Einstein said: “The greatest danger in modern technology is not that machines begin to think but that people will begin to think like machines.” It is true that technology has become more and more popular, not only in people’s daily lives, but it influenced the development of counties. The technology used for communication have changed the dynamics of human interaction, and it also has affected the contact with each other in various ways. Has this been a positive or negative development? Even though some people hold the view that too many technological advancements in communication cause people more isolation, there is no doubt that technology has improved contact with others in different ways, such as it widens the scope of knowledge and promote human relationship, the quality of communication and it is beneficial for time-saving as well. According to Li xin and Li-Chiou, web technologies have built up e-commerce, information sharing, business management and delivering services in the past 20 years (Tao, Chen, 2012, p.9-16). Which supports my idea that technology is improving people’s communication and business activities.
Referring to our lesson, self-esteem is the collective way in which we regard ourselves, furthermore: self-esteem is central in how we communicate, and affects how we converse with others. Example: if a person has low self-esteem they will not be as likely to add to a conversation, nor voice their opinion during a debate, rationalizing that their opinion is not important. Addressing the second question; a person must be aware of how they are communicating, using body language, facial expressions, in addition to the words being spoken. In communication if a person comes across as crass or arrogant what they are stating will not be heard; rather: the listeners will be “hearing the tone and gestures,” not the words. Communication is two-way, speakers must be self-aware, visualizing the outcome of their contribution to the conversation, shaping their thoughts carefully to produce the optimum message. Concluding: a speaker must be self-aware of the message and delivery of the message, producing a thoughtful, well-received message will effectively boost the speakers’ self-esteem.
Communication mediums varied depending on the situation. In law enforcement, choosing the right medium source for the message can save lives and protect sensitive information. In contrast, an improper medium distribution may cause confusion, implicate unwanted messages, and compromise public safety. Accordingly, when selecting communication mediums, the audience should be identified before a message is crafted and disseminated. Moreover, having someone with a working knowledge of the spectrum of communication methods and proficient at public speaking can be beneficial for a public safety agency (Patrick, 2017). In communication, choosing the correct method and medium will depend on the types of messaging and whether it is directed at the public, for internal information exchange, or to be communicated with other agencies.
Throughout our lives we have been taught the importance of good communication skills. Most college students are familiar with the aspect of good communication, but everyone seems to avoid explaining poor communication in detail. I believe the best way to practice good communication is to understand what poor communication is and to analyze how you may be practicing poor communication without proper knowledge. We use communication to express our thoughts and opinions. Communication takes place in many methods the main method of communication includes verbal, written, nonverbal and listening.
