Founded in 2013, a group of authors decided to make a change. They wanted to help each other to reach their goal. So, they found a way to do it, by creating a
Writing is an essential skill that students will use and apply for the rest of their lives. Teaching students to become strong writers is a daily task and involves writing more than just an essay. Research indicates that by the middle school level students should be writing at least 60 minutes a day. A practice of daily writing helps build writing fluency that transcends across the curriculum. However, this can be a daunting task especially when students don’t like to write. In a time when writing is essential to the curriculum, how do we build a community of lifelong writers? (Especially when we are in the age of standardized testing that limits what and how students are being taught writing.) Many experts state that daily writing in
Everyone knows what writing is to one extent or another, but we all have different definitions of how it should be done and varying degrees of seriousness about the art. We all have a process of writing, but each is unique to ourselves and our own experiences. Annie Dillard and Stephen King are two well known authors who have published many pieces, two of which describe how they view the writing process and let their readers get a peek of what goes on through their minds when they write. These two pieces are Dillard’s The Writing Life and King’s “What Writing Is.”
Employers and educators realize the importance of good writing skills but many business employees have writing deficiencies, costing American businesses billions of dollars every year. According to a study conducted by the National Commission on Writing (NCW) in 2004, American businesses may spend close to $3.1 billion yearly on the remediation of employees’ writing deficiencies. Consequently, employers are dissatisfied with employees writing skills and even more disappointed in the skills of new college graduates.
What is so amazing about writing and reading? Well, As Anais Nin once put it: “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” and I’m sure everyone has felt it, the magic in putting yourself into words. With my blog, I like to believe that I can share such “taste,” because it is not only a way for me to improve my writing skills, but also to express myself through the things that interest me.
In Rachel Shteir’s essay, “Failure, Writing’s Constant Companion” Shteir states that “Failure in writing is not like failure in business” meaning that when writing you have to be able to recognize you strengths and weakness also that writers have to write every day to exercise their writing muscle and implement the ability to have coherent ideas into their writing. Admittedly when writers feel that there work is less than up to par to what they are capable of writing it’s not the end of the world, everyone gets stuck and its okay just to write anything that comes to you that will eventually inspire your work and get you back on track. However when you think of others peoples approval of your work this can distract you from on writing your best
Writing is labor. It is a skill that requires a person to become monomaniac, as well as fastidious to the craft. Writing takes empathy and demands long periods of time to be alone with one’s self. Writing relies on readers to exist, but the writer ought to shut off the mind’s of readers and creative the work for themselves in order to become authentic. Writing is a skill that requires years of practice, as well as a clear memory and years of a life in order to be relevant in the vast abundance of information that is available for humanity. Writing is the phenomena that advances civilizations and individuals throughout all existence of humanity The writer is a wordsmith, who uses memories and impressions to be printed on the paper to be relived in the minds of a few or the minds of many.
I've never been that creative when it's about writing and choosing a subject never came that easy to me. I am always stuck when I have to choose a subject for an essay, especially if the essay's topic is not narrowed down to one option. Writers block has caused many hours of my life to be wasted on deciding on subject matter for my papers. This inability to be creative when writing is the one factor that has ruined my enjoyment of writing and has caused enormous amounts of stress due to being unable to finish any writing project fast.
The notion of being a writer for me was a highly romanticized one. My vision of the writer was a person, who would sit in his pajamas and write in long hand from morning till afternoon, and then read whatever he liked until late in the day, of course he was still in his pajamas. There were no difficulties, obstacles or whatsoever - a perfect way to spend your life. A few months after starting the blog, I realized, my vision was blurred, my notion far removed from reality, and that I needed an appointment with an
Writing is the tool I use to process my emotions and convey my feelings to others. Creative and freestyle forms of writing are what I enjoy. Writing has been a part of my journey for many years. I write a lot. I write often. Since I share some of my writings publicly on social media, I am regularly complimented on my writing. Some people go as far as to ask me to write a blog or even a book. Writing allows me to face fears, conquer trials, and learn more about myself and others.
As a student. I felt very uneasy before reading it knowing that the level of difficulty would be unimaginable. Though, within the “prequel,” I was already mesmerized by the beautiful writing and kept me captive. Read with an open mind! This Fleeting World also encourages and sets up a wide variety of debates and thought experiments. Which if read within a group of students would be very lively. Thus, audience is meant for those willing to learn big things in little time. Also adding graphics of maps, illustrations of tools and quotes that become more and more relevant the more is read. It’s even better to be able to read the chapter, look at the pictures and not be left with any questions visually. A great summer read for many. A piece made
Writing is not for the timid. Writing is not for the faint of heart. Writing is not for the strong-willed or the cowardly. Writing is not for the beautiful or the weak. Writing is not for the fierce or the mild. It is not for the admirable. Not for heros or villains. Not for the lazy. Not for the boastful or fragile. Not for the perky or the afraid. Not for the graceful or gloomy. Not for the young or aged. Not for the good or the bad. Not for the tall or short. Writing isn’t for audiences, readers, writers, or editors. Writing isn’t for anyone.
Thesis: The journey of having a relationship with writing consist of allowing yourself to become free from judgement, the ability to grow as a writer and acquire enjoyment and tranquility.
In my view, a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.” This statement is by-far a quote I live by. I in no way believe that everything I write is perfect; however, everything I write is a step in the right direction. The greatest moments for a writer in my opinion are not the moments of finding the most ideal line, or finding a great plot twist, they are the moments when a writer is stuck and has no idea what else to write yet they push themselves to continue. As a writer, my mission is to make an impact in people’s lives. My career goal is to become a creative writing professor. I want to show students the beauty in writing, the therapeutic aspect, the side of writing that pushes the boundaries of realism, and the parts that test the waters of social matters. It allowed me to express all the thoughts that raced through my mind, and release the stress that I had built up and find relief. Putting words onto paper brought me to a stable and calm mindset. As a teen, and even as I grow older, writing is something that I need in my life. I want to be able to show students that they can find peace in writing just as I
We write to communicate, to express our thoughts and ideas. Writing also enable us to express our feelings about different things. Apart from spoken language, writing, therefore, is one of the best mediums of communication. Poetry, flash fiction, memoir, life legacy and comedy monologue, which we are learning this week, are some of the forms by which we communicate and express ourselves. Different style of writings are often best suited for different
Writing has always played a huge role in my life. I’ve been reading writing for as long as I can remember as I have an immense love of reading. This love would grow into a love for writing as well; I still stumble upon journals and writings from my five-year-old self about the happenings in my kindergarten class. As time would go on I would discover academic writing, and how to convey my thoughts on what was the topic of student that particular year or semester in my schooling. Later, writing would become a constant for me, and a comfort; I was known to my friends as always having a journal, and a pen on my person. I learned to write down my feelings and my thoughts, song lyrics that were in my head, reflections for the day. I learned how
