1Running Head: GUN CONTROL LAWSGUN CONTROL LAWSPasquale DettorreGlendale Community College
2GUN CONTROL LAWSGun Control LawsThe talk about gun control laws have been an ongoing debate for years. This debate has brought up red flags acrossthe United States in many states. Some say gun control laws should be more strict than they already are, others disagree. Gun control laws should not be any stricter than what they are now because stricter laws will not keep guns out of the wrong hands, stillcause more problems with the way the system operates, will not diminish crime rates or accidental death rates. If stricter gun laws are enforced, background checks will be even harder to clear when purchasing a gun from a seller, and will not stop prohibited persons from privately purchasing a gun from a private unlicensed seller. The definition of gun control from The New York Times article is defined as a term that covers any type of restriction on firearms that can be purchased, who possesses or sells firearms, how and where they can be stored or carried by a person, and the obligations the buyer and seller mustreport transactions to the government(Perez-pena 2015). Gun control laws influencepeople who own guns in a good or a bad way. Gun controlaffects different people in different ways such as keeping up with the discussion on the current laws and new laws in the process. Some people do not follow up with the discussions and find out the hard way when
Gun regulation has been a controversial topic since they were first established as a weapon. People for and against gun regulation provide strong arguments for their side. Gun regulation has fluctuated over time due to changes in office. Being a democracy prevents us from having consistency. As a nation we continue to change regulations on guns because of the different views our democracy allows us to have. The main aspects pose the most problems in gun control are violence, illegal sale of guns, and mental health checks.
Gun control should be implied more than it is now. More gun laws should be created in order to tame society. Americans own over 300 million guns. According to (Everitt,Ladd) the author of the article “Does the U.S. Need Tougher Gun-Control Laws?” There are 99 gun deaths a day and some who committed the crime were not eligible to obtain or carry a weapon. More teens are being killed with guns than any other crime. Teens are not eligible to obtain guns due to the age requirement that is 21 years of age with a background check. There are gun show loopholes were 18 year olds can go and buy a gun without a license and background check. “The major cities chiefs association endorses closing the gun show loophole” according to Richard Perez-Pena the
Almost everyday in the news there is a report of a new incident of shooting. Gun violence continues to be on the rise. Since the Columbine school shooting took everyone by surprise in 1999, massive school shootings continue to shake our core. Though these incidents still happening in a higher frequency, gun control rise to the conversation only to be forgotten until the next massive killing event. In lieu of the last school shooting in Parkland Florida, on Feb 14 of this year, a cry for action coming from the students at that school has taken momentum in the name of public safety. But there still no consensus as to what to do.
The US has the highest firearm death rate, and alaska is the state with highest gun related deaths. This is why in my opinion we need stricter gun laws, enforced by the federal government. Even if some people disobey the new gun laws after they receive punishment it could reduce the amount of deaths.
However, owning guns has led to several shootings across the United States. Guns are too easily available and need to be monitored more often because of how they are accessed and how easy they are to purchase. Stricter gun control laws will help the situation become less violent and diminish School shootings.
Gun violence is the common issue in the United States that is kept growing. As an American people have right to own a gun for safety and protection reason but many people take advantage of it. The right to own the gun allows many dangerous people to harm other peoples through the deadly weapon. The rate of shooting death is rapidly increasing in past few decades. The legislative branch needs to adopt stronger gun laws to reduce shooting deaths without the violation of the Constitution.
The streets of Washington, DC have been flooded with neon signs demanding a change regarding stricter gun laws. Holding those signs are brave students and their families who have traveled far to bring awareness to school massacres. One would think that everyone would be in agreeance with these students, but that is far from the truth. These millennials are fighting for change, because there must be stricter gun laws. We all need to march in support with these students, because it will be the students that will pay the price regarding school shootings.
The Constitution was written from May 25th through September 17th, 1787, the day it was signed. Originally the Constitution was made up of ten amendments, but as of 2011 there are now twenty-seven, all of which have been ratified and added into the Bill of Rights. Each amendment has had its fair share of interrogation, and currently the Constitution’s validity is being questioned due to the fact that the writers of the Constitution were all men and slave owners at that. Though today, with the rising amount of shootings, the Second Amendment has been front and center in the media. The Second Amendment directly states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” But the Second Amendment is up for different interpretations to everybody, regardless of the last four words of the amendment, “shall not be infringed.”
This nation was built on the right to bear arms, but this freedom is more controversial than ever. With all the school shootings and gun violence in America today at some point it may seem that just too take away all guns may be the answer to this problem. In defense, this is not the answer. If someone wants to commit a crime, gun laws will not stop them from obtaining the weapon. It is like a drug. Drugs are illegal, but people still can acquire them. What about for defense right to own guns to protect your family if part of your constitutional rights. Rights that are supposed to be unalienable rights. Although in this day in time, they are always trying to take away guns either by trying to pass laws or taxing guns and ammo which almost makes
As quoted by Bob barr “It's not a gun control problem; it's a cultural control problem”. Our kids shouldn’t have to be worried about their safety in school and having to worry about school shootings. Things need to be fixed its time to pass stricter gun control laws. There has been school 18 shootings since January 1, 2018 that is about 3 per week so far just for this year. Something has to be done we need strict gun control.
Should there be gun control laws either on state and federal level? According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 467,321 people were victims of a crime committed with a firearm in 2011. Americans nowadays are faced with constant terror in the streets, teen-age gang members are constantly shooting other gang members for “turf” to sell drugs or show their power to rival gangs, children are more than likely to be caught in the crossfire of gang related shootings or drive-by shootings. We can’t ignore these crimes and the damage it has done to our society in a whole. However, the effort by some individuals to eliminate the legal ownership of firearms does not address the real problem we face, and by doing away with the banning of
Year through year many American citizens have the accessibility to have a gun. According to the Second Amendment of The Constitution, all citizens of the United Sated have the right to bear arms “Guns”, but there is always people who are against gun control, basing their opinion on accidents of people who are murder by a gun. Their Argument is the fact that they have to protect their families. However, gun control is not the only reason of all these accidents, they can also be use for good, for self-defense, hunting and sporting activities. American’s should have a better gun control so that the citizens who decide to bear arms, have better instructions of how to use it and if he/she has the opportunity to save someone else’s life why not do it.
The shot heard around the world it seems like all you hear on the news is tragic occurrences involving guns. Firearms are supposed to protect us. However tragedies at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Virginia Tech shooting, the Aurora “Batman” shooting, along with the Tucson shooting flowed our news feeds making us question our current gun control laws. With the upcoming holiday season approaching it hard for us to comprehend how we would live a minute without our loved ones. But for the families of the Sandy Hook disaster, Virginia Tech misfortune and Aurora Shooting that is a bitter reality. The gunmen from each of this incidents have took away something that no amount of money can replace.
People often look at the Second Amendment created by the Founding Fathers incorrectly, they made the amendment so that the armed population could battle against the United States Government. Many Americans nowadays look at the amendment and believe it guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but what the amendment was really made for was to protect gun ownership for members of military duties and collective security purposes. Did you know that guns kill an average of 36 people everyday in the United States alone? The United States is the country with the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. Guns should be banned for every single human being on this earth that is not part of military duties and collective security. If guns were illegal for every other person, crime rate would be decreased excessively.
The second amendment states, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”, and gun control is the set of laws and policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians. Gun control is infringing upon the right of the people to own firearms. Therefore gun control is unconstitutional, and should not be stood for by the people of the United States. This country was founded to make all people free, and the second amendment was the founder's way of assuring that the American people would always remain free. Having gun control laws gives too much power to the government, and gives them too much control over civilian lives. Gun rights should be treasured by the
