Should there be gun control laws either on state and federal level? According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 467,321 people were victims of a crime committed with a firearm in 2011. Americans nowadays are faced with constant terror in the streets, teen-age gang members are constantly shooting other gang members for “turf” to sell drugs or show their power to rival gangs, children are more than likely to be caught in the crossfire of gang related shootings or drive-by shootings. We can’t ignore these crimes and the damage it has done to our society in a whole. However, the effort by some individuals to eliminate the legal ownership of firearms does not address the real problem we face, and by doing away with the banning of
Gun regulation has been a controversial topic since they were first established as a weapon. People for and against gun regulation provide strong arguments for their side. Gun regulation has fluctuated over time due to changes in office. Being a democracy prevents us from having consistency. As a nation we continue to change regulations on guns because of the different views our democracy allows us to have. The main aspects pose the most problems in gun control are violence, illegal sale of guns, and mental health checks.
Gun control should be implied more than it is now. More gun laws should be created in order to tame society. Americans own over 300 million guns. According to (Everitt,Ladd) the author of the article “Does the U.S. Need Tougher Gun-Control Laws?” There are 99 gun deaths a day and some who committed the crime were not eligible to obtain or carry a weapon. More teens are being killed with guns than any other crime. Teens are not eligible to obtain guns due to the age requirement that is 21 years of age with a background check. There are gun show loopholes were 18 year olds can go and buy a gun without a license and background check. “The major cities chiefs association endorses closing the gun show loophole” according to Richard Perez-Pena the
Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States yet in 2016 there were 762 gun related homicides, 3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims. Despite strict gun laws Chicago had one of the deadliest years in history, so are the laws really working? Strict gun control does not mean that the amount of gun related crime will decrease. So, what is the point in making strict gun control laws?
On December 14th 2012, people all over the world came together to show their support for the families that were affected by the Newtown Sandy Hooke shooting. 20 innocent children from the ages of 5 to 7 were brutally shot repeatedly over and over again with a military style weapon. Classmates and parents will never forget this horrific tragedy which, under no circumstances, should have happened. However in the United States due to the lack of gun control laws mass shootings like this one are common. This is very unfortunate not only for Americans but for the global community. Having family in the United States and cousins in grade school, I find it frightening that their lives are at risk all because it is easy for people to purchase guns. In Canada we feel very safe and secure due to the strong gun control laws. It is immensely important that the USA takes a stand and applies stronger gun control laws to ensure the well being of not only their citizens but those visiting as well.
Should there be federal gun control laws? This question has been debated for centuries in America, especially after the recent tragic shootings in Las Vegas and Texas. Our country has been devastated by 52,900 incidents in 2017 that involved a firearm alone (GVA). I feel that the U.S should tighten our gun control laws due to the following reasons: significantly lowering suicide rates, reduction in violent gun-related crime, and it has been proven successful in numerous other countries.
Many would agree that there is a distressing amount of violence in America. Violence takes place in many forms, in different severities, and in many places. In an effort to continually make our society more civilized, ways to stop these violent acts from occurring are always being contemplated. There are many ways to approach the epidemic in America, but one that has increasing popularity is applying more strict gun control laws. Strict gun laws are viewed by many to be a step in the right direction, but they are actually a potential danger to the citizens of the United States.
In September of 2015, Democrats, Republicans, and Independent people were asked,"Do you support or oppose stricter gun control laws in the United States?" Majority of the Republicans voted no, Majority of the Democrats voted yes, and Independent voters were neutral. The reason the Republicans oppose gun control laws, was because they believed in the second amendment and the right to bear arms. While the Democrats support strict gun control laws, because they want the crime rate to go down. Lastly Independent people are 50/50 so its either they support or oppose strict gun control
The US has the highest firearm death rate, and alaska is the state with highest gun related deaths. This is why in my opinion we need stricter gun laws, enforced by the federal government. Even if some people disobey the new gun laws after they receive punishment it could reduce the amount of deaths.
America has both safety and freedom. Other countries have one of the two. Others have neither. Other nations are barely hanging on to life, because of restrictions or lack thereof. As H.L. Mencken wrote, “The average man does does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe”; he is correct in his statement. For example, there are laws concerning gun safety, and security precautions put in place after the September eleventh attacks; therefore, people would want safety more than they would want freedom.
. The United States is the leading country in gun related crimes in the world. Crimes that are gun related have gone down in the past due to new laws and it's time we enact them again. Stricter gun control laws are necessary in the United States in order to preserve the safety of civilians.
The Constitution was written from May 25th through September 17th, 1787, the day it was signed. Originally the Constitution was made up of ten amendments, but as of 2011 there are now twenty-seven, all of which have been ratified and added into the Bill of Rights. Each amendment has had its fair share of interrogation, and currently the Constitution’s validity is being questioned due to the fact that the writers of the Constitution were all men and slave owners at that. Though today, with the rising amount of shootings, the Second Amendment has been front and center in the media. The Second Amendment directly states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” But the Second Amendment is up for different interpretations to everybody, regardless of the last four words of the amendment, “shall not be infringed.”
Have you ever been involved in a home invasion? How did you protect yourself, or if this would happen have you thought about how you would protect yourself? Many people across the nation are concerned about this. Fathers are thinking about how they are going to keep their families safe. Growing up I never had to worry about this, because I live in Melstone and that my parents would be able to protect me with a gun. Today, gun control is a major concern in political campaigns across the nation. I will be talking about why, we should keep our gun rights because of protecting yourself from others, hunting, and protecting yourself from the government.
Do you think Gun control is a really important problem in this world? well first let me explain what it is. Its a domestic regulation of firearm manufacture, trade, possession, use, and transport, specifically with regard to the class of weapons referred to as ( pistols, rifles and carbines, assault rifles, submachine guns and light machine guns).Usage of the term gun control is sometimes politicized. Some of those in favor of legislation instead prefer to use terms such as "gun-violence prevention", "gun safety", "firearms regulation", "illegal guns", or "criminal access to guns".
Have you ever wondered how many lives are taken by firearms? Guns play a major part in the World, whether they are for protection or to do harm to others. While people can defend themselves, gun control needs to be more strict because guns are sold from and bought by people who do not fit the qualifications, children are accidentally killed, and the number of deaths in America are greatly rising.
Guns should not be over-regulated as it does not have an impact on reducing crime
