The Importance of Higher Education

An African Proverb once said “If you think education is expensive try ignorance.” This statement rings true today in relation to higher education. The importance of higher education cannot be stressed enough. A longer and happier life are just two of the things college graduates have over non college graduates. College graduates are more likely to have job satisfaction and security throughout their lifetime. One must see college as an investment in themselves, which is definitely worth the price.

On average college graduates live an amazing seven years longer than those without a college degree. This is caused by a few factors. College graduates usually make healthier decisions which prolong life. Also, college graduates usually face less stress about finances. Getting rid of stress is always a good thing. Higher education and the jobs that go along with it usually exercise the brain. There is a clear link between mental exercise and Alzheimer’s prevention. Next, college graduates usually can receive better healthcare due to increased finances. Those are some reasons why higher education leads to a longer and happier life.

Higher education can bring job security and satisfaction. To an employer a college degree makes one harder to replace. They also allow for one to move up within a company. Many promotions within a company require higher education. Recessions are a part of life in the United States. College graduates are less likely to lose their job during a recession. College are also more likely to enjoy their jobs for a number of reasons. One big reason is that college graduates are more likely to receive benefits from their employer. Health insurance benefits can save a family $393 per person per month. Also, many college graduates receive travel incentives from their jobs. It can be a great motivation to perform at work. It is clear, that job security and job satisfact are a benefits of higher education.
