Through partnering with organizations that are already addressing this issue, we could bring this awareness internationally, but for now we will be aiming towards national. Other interactions that would help with our initiative would be reaching college students, especially those who had lacked the resources in their early education. Interacting with the Board of Education is another way we could make aware of our social impact initiative. Many of other organizations are using Education as their social impact initiative, but are are using for a different purpose. Although we may be able to bring something new to the table, it makes it hard for us to find people to fund us. Other organization are also looking for the same funds, but only …show more content…

As previously mentioned, Schools That Can is a non-profit organization in which focuses on breaking the gap between opportunity and skills. They are all about bringing school leaders and teachers from urban educations to advance school improvements so that students are equipped with the skills to succeed in real life, college, and career. This organization already preach our social impact initiative because that is exactly what we want to achieve. A sense of equality and opportunity for those students who lack resources and cannot further their education due to either money, school motivation, you name it. Schools That Can are a national nonprofit organization that facilitate over 60,000 students nationwide. Not only have they obtained this impact but they also collaborate with many of other non-profit organizations that highlights the same values. School That Can, can take our initiative internationally.
If we collaborate with Renaissance and Schools That Can, we’ll pursue a strategy that would pertain to our mission. Organizations like these that are well established are convenient by
Due to an ongoing conflict between teachers at the Reynoldsburg City school and the school board, many teachers have decided to strike. When the strikers experienced a lack of support from the board, and even from the community, Emily Dillon, one of the strikers, decided to write an explanation. The primary source that she created was published on educationvotes.nea.org. Her piece is titled ‘“WHY I CHOSE TO STRIKE”: Reynoldsburg, OH, teacher shares her story.’ Throughout this primary source, Emily Dillon, an elementary school teacher and employee of the Reynoldsburg City Schools, goes into a considerable amount of detail about a day in the life of being on strike. In doing so, she explains to readers the main reasons they are striking and expresses her frustrations towards these issues. Dillon makes it very obvious that she does not enjoy striking and in fact misses her job very much, even if some of her arguments about class sizes, are flawed and or poorly written.
Simple arithmetic is not an easy task. Just like some students have difficulties with basic mathematics skills, so does the Superintendent. This is not to say that the Superintendent cannot do basic math. What this is really comparing is the challenging undertaking involved in counting four out of seven votes in favor of the Superintendent 's recommendations. Swaying back and forth for Board votes is timely and very hard to accomplish, but it is an essential part of the job. Sharp and Walter (2004) explain board members have no authority as individuals. However, together or as a majority they can be extremely powerful in making policy. Longer tenures and more efficient working
The Chicago Board of Education meets once a month to discuss issues relevant to Chicago Public Schools, entertain public comments, and make policy and fiscal decisions. Often times the Board meeting is held at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) central office at 10 a.m. However, both the timing and location of the meeting on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 differed. The meeting was held at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy High School at 4:30 p.m. Gwendolyn Brooks is located on the far south side of Chicago. Hosting the meeting at a CPS school has both positives and negatives. By bolding the meeting at a school it allows for a less formal atmosphere in addition to providing the opportunity to showcase some of the beautiful properties CPS possesses. However, this particular school is not easily accessible by public transportation. This may cause a problem for some stakeholders that would like to participate in the school board meeting. Furthermore, 4:30 in the afternoon is an awkward time for a meeting as it is more difficult to find childcare during the evening hours. Additionally, finding details regarding this meeting was not easy. After a search was conducted on the CPS website, there was no mention of the board meeting. Once redirected to the Chicago Board of Education Site, information regarding the location of the meeting was supplied. However there wasn’t a visible start time or information regarding if the meeting was being broadcasted on a local
A more recent case which is similar to Everson v. Board of Education, is Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn. The taxpayers of Arizona were challenging the fact that a state law was providing tax credits to those who were donating to school tuition organizations in order for the schools to provide scholarships to those attending private/religious schools. The claim was that this was a violation of the Establishment Clause (Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn, 2016.), which is the first of several pronouncements within the First Amendment within the U.S. Constitution, or the first ten amendments within the Bill of Rights, which states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” (Bill of Rights, 2016.). The Supreme Court had ruled 5-4 and argued that the plaintiff did not have enough information and standing to bring to the suit. Justice Kagen, in her dissent, stated that “cash grants and targeted tax breaks are means of accomplishing the same government object; to provide financial support to select individuals or organizations.” (Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn, 2016.). Although the ruling was made on “narrow grounds”, according to Peter Wooley, a political science and direction of the PublicMind Poll, the plaintiff in one “guise or another will be back another day” (Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn, 2016.).

With the Southern Poly-Tech-Kennesaw State University merger, there has been a new influx of thousands of students. However, there hasn't been any push to expand on the already limited parking that is provided to Kennesaw students. If Kennesaw State built more parking spaces, the students could greatly benefit from it. With all the new money coming in from the new students bringing in millions of dollars of tuition we should be able to bear the cost, even if it’s not a big lot. Kennesaw State should be spending money to help the students, and this could affect thousands of students every day.
On July 25,2016, I attended the Kilgore Independent School Board meeting. I noticed that besides the board members there were not very many people in attendance. There were two students, myself included, a former KISD students father talking about the FFA, five faculty members, and a reporter. I was not sure what to expect at this meeting since I had never attended one before and unfortunately I do not think that I would ever willingly attend another, unless it was relevant to my child.
Enterprise City Schools has a simple hierarchy regarding the structure of the Enterprise High School’s Athletic Department. All major decisions require school board approval. However, Some of the day to day decision need only the approval of the principal or athletic director. The school board meets once a month on the third Tuesday of every month. Requiring all major decisions to have school board approval has its pros and cons. One major pro is coaches, the administrators must be organized and play proactively to get things accomplished. A con is that a decision may take a month to get made.
In the United States each state has their own system to regulate teacher certification. Each state has a set of state guidelines and procedures for certifying teachers. Equally, all public schools are expected to employ teachers that meet certification requirements by individual states. The high commitment of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is for more school accountability and to hire “highly qualified” teachers to improve the learning outcomes of every student and monitor student achievement (Boyd, (Goldhaber, Lankford, Wyckoff, 2007). As a result of No Child Left behind North Carolina hold teachers to specific criteria in order to become “highly qualified.” Teachers must hold Bachelor’s degree or higher; and Hold full certification in teaching in the state of North Carolina. Teacher must have a major and coursework equal to the total of twenty-four semester hours from a four-year accredited college or university in their perspective content area. Also, teachers that hold an advanced degree, National Board Certification or pass the PRAXIS in their perspective content area (NCDPI, 2006).
“Engage. Connect. Transform.”: Trinity College’s bold mission. These words establish the liberal arts, where myself, my friends, and my teachers will be contributing to the Trinity Community by the merits of our intellectual fruit. Perhaps more importantly, however, the contributions of my colleagues and myself to the Trinity Community will also enhance the wider urban setting of Hartford in a real and pragmatic way.
On Monday,October 14, 2013 at 7:00 P.M., I attended the Bradford Area School District school board meeting at Floyd C. Fretz Middle School in the large group instruction room. This meeting was important for the teachers, students, and the schools in the district. It provided information that correlated to the material in class and a perspective on what situations as a future teacher I may experience.
As always, projects can continue to conduct interventions in schools and can fund outreach about available services. For example, a subgrantee could conduct dating violence support groups in schools, as this would constitute an
a) What action, if any, should have been taken by the school administration when the local teachers’ association publicly criticized the administration and the school board?
