Since then, every time I've been abroad, I have been required to submit a report of all activities performed during the stay and sometimes warning me that I should not be naive and to be careful with the information I gave any foreigner or while overseas. I emphasize this because in 2003, I had been in the US and I had to do a report, plus I was not the only traveling abroad but my colleagues did not have to do that report, so my survival instinct told me that I am not to even ask them why I must and they do not. Life in Cuba is living with the stress and the worry of being careful of what say or do because they might force consequences simply due to my viewpoint.
My friend Lillian Guerra publishes one of the best books that have been made
The involvement in Cuba and the Phillipinnes had many differences. Before the war began the Teller Amendment was passed guarenteeing Cuba thier independence, but the Phillipinnes didn't have anything from the America which guarenteed their independence. During the war American involvement helped both Cuba and the Philippinnes fight Spain, but after the war neither was involved in the Treaty of Paris. After the war, in the Phillipinnes, American soldiers came in believing they were going to teach the Filipinos. Many of the American soldiers treated the Filipinos like blacks. This did not occur in Cuba, where America did not believe they needed the education for self government. Also after the war Filipinos were brutally killed and towns
There are only five countries left in this world that still call themselves communists stated by (PRI,2013). Everyone knows those five countries as, China, Dominican Republic, Korea, Vietnam, and of course Cuba. Cuba is home to 11.2 million citizens whom live a very different life than us who populate the united states (PRI,2013). During the year of 1925 the socialist party was founded forming the Communist party. Cubans government has survived over 50 years of Communism (BBC,2017).
In the early 1900’s, Cuba was a stomping ground for many of the rich and famous from the United States. Many famous movies stars and wealthy business entrepreneurs spend their vacations there along with a substantial amount of money. Trade and commerce between the United States and Cuba flowed freely and abundantly. Even with the Dictatorship-like regime of Batista, the countries benefited from the economic trade between them. This was all about to come crashing down as revolts against Batista occurred and Fidel Castro came to power within Cuba.
My parents, Miguel and Mabel Aguilar, came here in 1997 from Cuba. I was born in New Jersey on July 27th, 2000 and shortly moved to New York three years after. Growing up I had a blend of the “American Dream” and my cuban background and culture. Cubans are super passionate about their roots, with their celebrations including an abundance of dancing, and cuban food, encompassing rice, beans, and roasted pig. I have come to learn that special occasions are always held with a pig roast. Although I lived in America, the cuban culture always followed me because of my parents love for it. Because my parents had such a passion for cuban culture, it was passed down to me. I am extremely grateful that I had and have such a cultural life. The cuban
Cuba gained independence in the spanish american war. You might think soccer would be the main sport in Cuba but it is not. Baseball is the major sport in Cuba.
Believing he discovered a new route to India, Christopher Columbus arrived at Cuba’s Guarda La Vaca (‘protect the cow’) beach in 1492 and purportedly remarked, "the most beautiful land human eyes have ever seen." Remarkably, he was some 10,000 miles off-course.
History of Cuba- Cuba is the country of west indies, discovered by Christopher Columbus in October 1492. The natives of Cuba lived by farming in that century. In 14th century most of the Cuba people ruined by European diseases. In late 18th century Cuba again stood up on his feet by growing and exporting sugar. For farming of sugar Cuba needs more people, then thousands of slaves were imported to Cuba.
economic growth comes from agriculture and exports to and from Europe. Since America has had an embargo on Cuba since 1962 neither countries trade with each other because of many disagreements about governing techniques and Fidel's unwillingness to comply with U.S. instructions. Cuba’s long history and culture has contributed to many economic and social growth through out the world, but Cuba is still struggling to try to stable their economy.
Cuba is a communist country lead by Raul Castro. This form of government has lead to many social problems including poverty, trade embargos, and limited freedom for the citizens. Just like Cuba, Romania was lead by a communist government. The Romanian government showed little support towards their citizens which ultimately resulted in revolutions to fight against the government. If the people of Cuba were to fight against their government it would be beneficial and could end up with them having more rights and lower poverty
Cuba has a complex but rich culture that has been broadening in all aspects in its society. Its semi-forbidden access to Americans makes it a curious destination for adventitious people. The largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba has been inhabited since the mid-1400s by various Mesoamerican tribes, until 1492 when Christopher Columbus invaded the island and took it over. It remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish-American war in 1898, and briefly became a colony of the United States. A few years later, Cuba than gained nominal independence from America in 1902 and functioned under a democratic republic, despite weak leaders in their national
CChristopher Columbus discovered Cuba in 1492 and claimed it for Spain. Columbus described Cuba as "The most lovely that eyes have seen." (Gall, 170) Since that time Cuba has gone through a tremendous amount of conflict over the last 500 years. They have endured war after war and foreign occupation, which has caused many Cubans to flee the country looking for asylum. Even with such a dramatic history the culture of the Cuban people live on not only in Cuba, but also in America. So how do we determine how to properly communicate with people of the Cuban culture as not to offend them and be considerate of their culture. We must first start off with the evolution of the culture through their history.
The first thing that pop into my head when I think about cultural practices that are influenced by people’s culture is related with the spread of Dengue in Cuba. Dengue is an infectious disease caused by any one of four related viruses. It is transmitted between people by the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, which are found throughout the world. In Cuba the most common is the Aedes Aegypti and is by controlling the mosquito population that this disease is controlled. Mosquitoes like to laid their eggs in stagnant clean water and in Cuba an ideal place for the mosquitoes’ eggs is created by a cultural practice. The Yoruba religion, an African religion that came from Nigeria is very popular in Cuba and one common practice of this
Cuba is an island nation that was adopted in 1902. One third of it consists of mountains and rolling hills. It lies in the West Indies, and is said to be a beautiful island. Havana is Cuba’s capital, and the center of government for Cuba. Some important cities are Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey. Santiago de Cuba is near the south-eastern area of Cuba, and has a population of about half a million people. It’s considered the second most important city in Cuba, probably because it’s an important sea port. Camagüey is the fourth largest city in Cuba, according to Wikipedia. The symbol of Camagüey is a clay pot, mainly because there are clay pots everywhere. They can be very small, or very big. They’re used to capture rainwater to be
As I stepped off the gargantuan, snow white cruise ship, I gazed at a colorful sea of retro-style cars zipping through the narrow streets littered with potholes. The day I had been anticipating and fearing was finally here. I was in Cuba. The customs office at the end of the ship terminal was institutional looking, with stark white walls and bright lighting. Eventually, my family left customs and officially entered Cuba. Before meeting our tour guide, we located a restroom. Outside, there was a rugged and dirty looking man selling toilet paper to American tourists, who forgot their own roll. However, the cruise line had forewarned us, so we bypassed him.
