The FBI told Louisville that the university can do its own investigation of Brian Bowen. Since this news has been gently placed on the Interwebs, people have lost their god damn marbles. It hasn't helped to make this topic easier to consume that people are failing to admit the lack of education they have on this current process. Random bloggers have turned to Twitter to claim "sources" are telling them stuff, as if any college basketball writer has some source inside the FBI; others are spinning yearns that paint this story as "proof" that Rick Pitino did nothing wrong; and so on. While I don't know what is actually going on either, writing that, admitting it in print or verbal form, is the entire point at this juncture. We can quickly …show more content…
Bar in mind that, you know, Pitino was fired as a lifetime achievement award. UoL didn't show him the door due to a sole instance. And, even if this legally helps his cause, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. What is done is done, Pitino ain't coming back, and the disaster left in that vampire's wake can't be undone. With Bowen potentially being eligible now, eh. We already saw Auburn hurl its own (free) labor under the bus to protect future earnings. Unless there's some white knight out there who ends up being a fall guy, claiming to be the player everyone presumed to be the 10,000 dollar talent in the FBI report, this 5-star freshman is unlikely to set foot on a collegiate floor. Recourse For The Fake Are you a writer pretending to have sources? Yeah. About you. Go climb a hill, stare at the fun, then hang yourself with a belt. You are as bad as the Silicon Valley bros who have been ravaging this industry since the Internet was born. We aren't even talking about hivemind folk who pretend to live in a world where only "their" network has good work. Nor are we going to broach the "write for free" for "exposure" topic that polarizes many (this is something I will, at some point, touch on. Just not today). All we are discussing are writers who are, flatly, lying. There should be a recourse for it, though, one fitting does not yet exist. Other college basketball writers
The NCAA is an easy organization to make fun of. The governing body of college sports loves to wield its hammer of justice in the most uninformed, one-sided way as possible. That is true, although, sometimes we forget about the difficult terrain it has to navigate.
It doesn’t only stop at him, many others do agree with that he stood up for. “..the real scandal is the very structure of college sports, wherein student-athletes generate billions of dollars for universities and private companies while earning nothing for themselves.”(Branch)
Although college football is the third-most-popular sport, the majority of schools lose revenue on athletics. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, also known as the NCAA, is promoting beneficial ideas to help players in need while increasing academic standards. As stated in the article, “On some LSU teams, Martin said, half of the players are “special admits””, which means multitudes of players do not achieve the same levels of academic success as “normal” students. As long as academic budgets are miniscule compared to athletic budgets, there will always be controversy. This tension increased when “legendary head coach” Joe Paterno, along with Jerry Sandusky, were fired for being involved in a sex-abuse scandal with a minor.
It was perplexing time for The New York Times; a chapter, in their long-run, of fabrications that are now consider fabulists and egregious plagiarism. Hard News by Seth Mnookin, recounts the time a narcissistic and pedantic executive editor, named Howell Raines took took charged of the steering-wheel of one of the most reliable and prominent newspapers in the nation. It is described how Raines and other high-profiled and important figures for the paper, such as managing editor Gerald M. Boyd, dealt with the Jayson Blair’s scandal. The Jayson Blair scandal is about the terrible repercussions when plagiarism and fabulism is committed by a reporter. It not only tarnishes the reporter’s reputation but the newspaper’s transparency as a whole. I
Trust in media has been a very concerning topic for the modern area. It is quiet common for media to be construed and twisted to manipulate the viewer’s opinion. It doesn’t take much to change the headline of an article to convey completely different meanings or standpoints. One issue in particular, which seems to be one of the most common, is plagiarism. Plagiarism can be very tempting to certain individuals considering how readily available and seemingly limitless virtual text that can be accessed. One case I want to discuss is the one of Benny Johnson, a fairly well known politics editor who started making unethical decisions in 2015 while working for BuzzFeed. According to Poynter, Johnson was accused of 41 examples of plagiarism. We
“Bloggers are amateurs pretending to not be.” said Goldman-Hall when referring to the bloggers. The Online writers convince their audiences that they are reliable sources and the readers take their word because it's conveniently on the internet.
In all the death of Joe McKnight should not of happened. This is from the head coach for USC. It was all just road rage and Ronald Gesser should be in jail for over 30 years. Reggie Bush goes on to say “I hate people that kill teammates of ex-teammates.” Some people thought it was because of the skin color but it wasn’t. People should just stop and think for a change.” This is what Reggie Bush said about the death of Joe
In, “One Man’s Rumer I Another Man’s Reality, Gregory Rodriguez, an author of the Los Angeles Times he argues about the power of broadcasting the truth and its effect on the people. As a result, “can false rumors and off-the-wall theories be corrected by broadcasting the truth” (Gregory Rodriguez, Los Angeles Times, September 28, 2009)?
The author’s credibility is established before, throughout, and at the end of the article by giving sources from media news, such as CNN and other publications from the New York Times. The problem with CNN being a “media” news source is that information isn’t always proven true and is often opinionated. On ,“Karen Douglas, Business Insider, 2017”, from a poll taken of 3000 random participants, CNN was considered more or less distrustworthy. This poll supports the statistical evidence that declares CNN’s information 47% untrue or false on (CNN File PunditFact 2017) . If David uses CNN for statistical reports to support his left sided point of view, how can we know if what he says is even true? We can’t. However, the author uses emotional reasoning and empathy to sway the reader into understanding and accepting his point of view, even if the view is not 100% true.
Scholarships should not be taken away at the whim, but instead an agreement should be made between the athletic department and the student for him/her to be able to complete higher education. Like many other scholarships, athletic compensation is not guaranteed, but the criteria for renewal are much different. Union officials were shocked that scholarships could be pulled “at the whim of a coach.” Coaches have the authority to pull scholarships from the athletes they believe are underperforming. This can pose a problem for students who rely on these scholarships to get through college. Athletes who do not receive anticipated scholarships tend to be overwhelmed with new bills. Joseph Agnew was cut from his team before senior year, leaving him with $35,000 in tuition and other bills if he wanted to finish his degree. The one-year rule that Agnew experienced allows colleges to cut athletes that underperform in both school
The Louisville Men’s Basketball program was expected to be one of the top teams in the nation this upcoming season. However, details have come out about players and recruits being allegedly involved in prostitution that was paid for by the coaching staff. These accusations were initially brought to light in a recently released book, authored by a woman named by a woman named, Katina Powell. National media outlets have picked up on the story and a thorough investigation by the NCAA and the University of Louisville are both currently underway.
One of the biggest negative events to ever hit the sports world in the past decade came from the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State University. This scandal lead to the firing of Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno, Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, and Gary Schultz who all held high level official capacities at the college. What made this scandal so huge was the fact that the Penn State football program as well as head coach Joe Paterno were highly admired and praised. Furthermore, the most shocking aspect of the scandal is how it was kept silent. The scandal kept making itself advent which left the school in a crisis and ruined its reputation. The issue with this scandal is that it involved a wide range of criminal, moral, ethical and sexual misconduct.
The New York Times includes important sources thato help the reader feel more secure about the information given. The type of propaganda that the journalists Mark Landler and Jonathan Weisman often used thewas Testimonial device. The New York Times’ quotes in the article were by people who are well- known by the populace. A quote stated by someone who is well recognized generally helps the reader believe what is being said versus a quote by a person who is not well recognized. This is why Landler and Weisman decided to include President Obama and Secretary of¬ State John Kerry in for quotes in their article. By using these individuals, it also links the story and helps verify the information that was given to the targeted audience. End The Lie’s article had numerous quotes, but some were by recognizable people and others were anonymous. Having an anonymous source in an article is skeptical because anyone could have said it, and that person may not know much about the Russian proposal or the any other diplomatic path that is trying to be focusedsolutions. Also, on or the journalist could have easily added their own opinion by quoting themselves and hiding behind an anonymous source.
The media has been adversely affected by the explosion of information sources. It has become a tedious and cumbersome endeavor to accurately locate information sources that can stand to even the slightest bit of scrutinizing. For those who attempt to report the truth, they continue to find it
In Chapter 4 of The Language of New Media, he discusses about “The Illusions”. He talks about several different points about the evolution of imagery that the users can reach out the silicon graphics computer known as reality system, and how powerful this computing system was in the 1990’s for creating 3D images and illuminated videos in the new media. This chapter was more interesting and it was even a little informative. In current times, these illusions can be defined as realistic images or film created with photo images, videos, and computer graphics.
