Music education is a subject in school that should be essential for all students. If students continued to expand their music education, they would have higher test scores in subjects such as math and English. Having a school system where everyone is able to benefit from a school wide requirement of music education. Music education will help improve student test scores and improve students language development. Students who take music classes have higher test scores. Music education helps students with their academic life. A study done in 2007 showed that, “elementary schools with superior music education programs scored around 22 percent higher in English and 20 percent higher in math scores on standardized tests, …show more content…

According to the Children’s Music Workshop, learning a musical instrument also improves how the brain understands human language, which can help students learn a second language. (Brown). As a student’s brain develops researchers are able to see the growth happening in one’s brain. With all this development happening in one’s brain, students are able to increase their language development and more easily comprehend being taught a second language. Music enhances language development because of the skill required for the student to read copious amounts of music. According to PBS, “[Recent] studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain’s circuits in specific ways” (Martin). This research shows that people who participate in music have a physically developed brain. The amount of reading that one does with music makes the two sides of one brains to work together. The brain develops when it participates in music activities. Making music education a requirement is essential to the language development of every child and also is something where everyone would be able to help.
